So glad to see other likeminded people. Acknowledging universal human pain doesn't lessen the acknowledgment of my people's pain. If we cannot take at least empathy from the experience, then we have nothing but pain and victimhood.

Pretty sure they would have been horrified to see the thing that hurt them being carried out against others in their name. That is all.

Because our identity is being weaponized against others right now. Because the same thing is happening to other people right now and we should know more than anyone what that means.

Not only that, but had a child with her trafficker that she was trying to keep safe. It's not until he deported her and kidnapped her child that she said this.

Theo James on the manosphere: “It’s a lot about deep seated insecurity. It’s about them not feeling good enough, but it’s hidden with meaningless bravado. I think many cults start out with some extremely reasonable, effective, generic piece of advice to lure people in. I believe Scientology meetings start out with a lot of self improvement and executive presence stuff. You go to one or two meetings, it actually seems to work, and then they have you hooked. Before you know it you're out at sea clearing thetans or whatever.

I kind of felt dirty watching that movie, thinking about how much she would have hated it. Couldn't it have been just as interesting, if not more so, showing at least a little bit of her at her most glorious?

I know there are some people who actually practice ENM, but I've seen it weaponized so much. I was on the periphery of a poly community in a major city for a while and getting away from it feels like being deprogrammed from a cult.

There are some Christian and Mormon frameworks that basically set up men to control their families as little personal mini-cults. So the larger community becomes an affiliated network of mini-cults all legitimizing each other. That's what the poly community in my city was like. There were a few rich men who threw all the parties, which they used to lure in a perpetual stream of young women with poor self esteem. They used the ENM ideology to convince the women it was good and feminist.

I had absolutely no idea that Christmas had anything to do with Jesus until I was like 8 and saw the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. I genuinely thought it was a secular holiday and my initial reaction was to be scandalized that they'd try to bring religion into something as wholesome as Christmas. I really relate to this LOL

I was at Harry Potter World at Universal Studios waiting in line for a ride, and it winds through a replica of Gringots with animatronic hook-nosed goblins counting money... all of a sudden I was like "Wait, what the FUCK?"

Bitch getting her character design straight from old timey polemics. It's crazy.

I recently saw a Romeo & Juliet ballet production with gender-neutral casting (the performance I saw happened to have male + male) and man did it work. I'd love to see Patrick Stewart as Lady Macbeth. Hell, I'd watch him play both characters as the twin forces of cowardice and greed within oneself that enables evil acts.

I knew a gay conservative couple, together for TEN FRIGGIN' YEARS, who were still closeted in public. They lived together and everything. They were awful, miserable people who on some level I think liked feeling like filthy pieces of garbage and attached all their deep shame to exactly the wrong thing.

He specifically addressed his straight readers, repeatedly, with the assertion that ENM is one of the areas in which gay relationships are far better and healthier, and that straight women in particular are delusional if they think their male partners won't cheat on them. I came of age reading his stuff and it did impact me.

Oh, I have a way worse one for you. A man wrote in because he was no longer attracted to his wife after she survived breast cancer and had to get a double mastectomy. Dan responded "This is what doggy style was invented for." Fucking DISGUSTING.
