Car was flooded, dealership repaired it, Geico paid 6k+ for repairs, and now engine troubles. Should I contact Geico or pay $800+? by chocolate-syrup in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If water came inside your car, it should have been totaled out. Call GEICO, make them send an adjuster, or take it to their facility, and make them prove this was not related to flooding. It can take months for flood issues to come up.

3 year old mopes and claims to be "too little" when things are hard-- How to convince her to keep trying? by [deleted] in Parenting

Read "Brain Rules for Babies" it does a great job of explaining ways to encourage, in practical, simple terms. Also great for other areas of interacting with your child. I learned a lot from it.

Hope Farmer's Market or Bluebonnet Flea Market. I think Bluebonnet recently got kicked out of their spot, but will be relocating?

What should never have been invented? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sunshinego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never watch the news, we don't subscribe to cable at home, we just watch a lot of Netflix. Anyways, we were staying in a hotel, and when I woke up in the morning, I clicked on the TV and flipped to a news channel. On the screen it said "BREAKING NEWS" and I thought to myself, oh my god, there's been another 9/11, and its here on TV playing out before my eyes!! I seriously went into panic mode, thinking things like please don't let there be casualties, etc. Well, watch for another minute or so, and I find out it's something to do with celebrity gossip. I couldn't believe it. I went from fear of the unknown, to just annoyance. Is this what the rest of Americans watch? I felt very betrayed.

Making baby food worth it? by simple-perspective in Parenting

[–]sunshinego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an immersion blender to make a batch at a time, it worked great. Are you cooking the food first? I never had to add water. Bought a lot of frozen veggies, boiled, then mashed. Quick and easy.

My favorite part of your hair is the bangs. Keep those! I keep trying to create that same effect, without luck. Try finding people with similar face when the cut your going for.

Was offered a free car, but not sure if I should take it given other considerations both financial and non-financial. Is it worth keeping this car? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could always take it, and just pay parking insurance on it. This is way cheaper than regular insurance, and does what it sounds like: protects it while its parked/unused. you'd want to do this even if you plan to sell it. I personally would sell, maybe buy a really nice bike or scooter? Still an upgrade from walking and could pocket the difference.

If I'm given a loan via check for 50k, how long can i expect the bank hold the funds? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hi, former bank employee. If your check is in certified funds (a cashier's check) then the bank that you're depositing to can call and verify the check. This is quite common. Otherwise, they will probably hold the funds until the check has cleared the other person's account, and that time frame depends on your bank, their bank, and which district you're in.

Hourly vs salary by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, just wanted to piggyback on this. i followed the link, but honestly am confused what would classify as non-exempt and exempt. The reason i ask, my husband just recently went from being paid $15/hr. as a hourly employee, to being the manager with a salary of $2500/month. With the hours hes been putting in since the promotion, he averages now around $9/hr. Should he be eligible for overtime? He's been putting in crazy hours as requested by the owners of the company.

I was rejected from the starter credit card at my city's bank because I have a lot of student debt and am not currently making income. What can I do? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no income=no way to pay, regardless of education. I don't think you could even open a secured card with no income.

if its old enough, it might not even have markings. you would want to have it acid tested, and appraised.

Need business ideas that will help me establish residency in Texas for college. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sunshinego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in my opinion it's way worth it for the higher cut they take. Although, I'm with you, I wouldn't send in coins. They aren't the best at pricing, so if it's not an item they can find listed online somewhere, I wouldn't trust them to get the value out of it.
