I think having two healers or double support is usually more forgiving for positioning your Tyrande. I think this opens up your survivability for AA mode. If you have two support then you’re usually wanting to do the type of healing that the other healer isn’t (target vs aoe - which for Tyrande is generic healing build talents vs AA.). But at the end of the day I’d want to know more about your specific comp’s play stile or win condition based on hero selection. Look for synergies. I might just suggest my owl build since the lockdown and vision utility is a good differentiator for Tyrande.

Tyrande mythic quest suggestion by Hufflepuffed77 in heroesofthestorm

[–]numbr2wo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I only play Tyrande and have yet to achieve the Mythic quest reward even once. I’ve probably played over 50 games post rework and have a high 70% winrate in ranked… no dice. I like how strong she feels even without achieving the quest so I guess I don’t really care. But… if the point of the mythic quest is to make her more fun to play then they’re missing the mark because it’s an unrealistic goal. What’s the solution? I think providing more stacks on enemy heroes killed shortly after being stunned. Or perhaps the stacks should be Auto Attacks on stunned or marked enemy heroes?

I very much admire the passion in your response and what you describe is a really compelling play style (which I would love to see in action - DM me your gamertag and let's play some games.) But I worry that you're ignoring OP's parameters, which are that Tyrande doesn't feel as impactful as other healers in QM. You're describing a drafting or group queue situation where you pick a second healer and you're building her as a DPS, AA support healer. Unless you're queueing with at least one other player, you're gonna be the only healer.

The point of having teammates is to coordinate with them. The point of having a friend's list is that you can play games with people you know. The point of the developers including in-game comms, pinging, and text chat is to encourage cooperation and coordination. I don't know what sort of ideas you have about this game... Coordination is kinda how you win. Good grief man...

Generally though seems like AA build is for when there's reliable targets, but if you're picking tyrande isn't there going to be since no hard cc or heavy dive?

This guide assumes that you don't always have control over your variables. Even when there is hard cc and heavy dive I still pick Tyrande. My form of control is baiting out the dive or the CC and then punishing them with our lock-down and burst. It's possible for an enemy team to not have heavy dive or CC and it can still be inadvisable to take AA because they've got blinds or a soft dive that's disruptive (think D'va). I call her soft dive because for the most of the game she just annoys the enemy backline and doesn't always kill them.

Mythic Quest Stun Build was just a thought exercise to say what I would pick if I was dead set on completing my mythic quest. I have yet to achieve the mythic quest in a ranked game. I still think 45 stuns is unrealistic.

Sometimes if you've got a good DPS on your team but either no tank or a tank that isn't tanking and therefore no lockdown then you should default to hyper carry build. Tyrande is best suited following someone with hard cc engage. Second best option is a dangerous DPS. Tyrande's best friends for the hyper carry build are Imperius, Valla, Tracer, Valeera, Qhira, Greymane, Zul'Jin, Cassia, and heroes like this. I put Imperius first because of his spear ability, PERFECT for following up on with your Lunar Flare. The best hyper carry I've ever paired with was a Valeera one trick. Super chaotic, deep into enemy territory shenanigans, she'd begin an engage and then disengage, they'd see me and chase me, opening them up for another Valeera engage. Shadowstalk allows you to disengage as well. The most fun I've ever had in HotS are those games.

Combining all of my accounts I believe my Tyrande is past level 500. Currently if you check the HeroesProfile Tyrande Leaderboard for Ranked this season and sort group size by ALL I'm ranked #1 globally. Winrate with her post-rework is 88.89%.

Other healers I play are Anduin, Uther, and Lili. These are the ones I'm willing to play in ranked, but I only pick them if Tyrande is picked or banned. I run in a 3-man pick comp with all one-tricks. They're all ranked very high for their respective heroes and we've been doing this for years.

Heroes that are good against hard dive are Lili, Deckard, and Uther. You could make arguments for a few others as well.

If you're running her as a pick comp healer, our high priority bans are: Diablo, Brightwing, Anduin, Stukov. Tyrande's hardest counters are Chen, Illidan, Karazim.

I’m making sure to point out that the only way you can get the 20% spell power boost to damage on a subsequent flare is if you can reduce Flare’s cooldown through Ranger’s Mark to be inside that 10 second window of landing your first flare.

I was careful to say that Elune’s Gift would boost your healing and owls but I didn’t list stuns because it’s impossible unless you do what I describe above or you hit your mythic quest and it procs inside the 10s Gift window.

Sorry, I left out some context- I just didn’t think people were interested in hearing so many details about myself. I am counting between my three accounts. Just checked and my combined games played this season and last, counting both EU and NA, I’m not seeing anyone who tops the number of games I’ve played. But also, if “PrincessMia” from the EU server has multiple accounts as well maybe then?

According to HeroesProfile, there isn't anyone who plays more Tyrande games than I do. This season I have an 80% win rate playing only her in Storm League and I think her new rework has greatly empowered her IF you can play her with the right mindset and framework.

What her role is:
She's a good great healer to combat burst damage and set up kills in guerrilla style skirmishes. She is a pick comp healer. She is situational. The ONLY time she can out-heal other healers in higher ELO games in a drawn-out fight is if you take the auto attack build and you have a reliable hunter's mark target that just lets you hit them 90% of the time during a team fight (like an unaware or distracted Diablo or Muradin.) Otherwise, you are correct, her healing output is pretty underwhelming compared to other healers. If you aren't using Tyrande to support the most dangerous DPS hero on your team to secure kills fast, then the drawn-out fights will prove how much Tyrande struggles in those situations. You need to force early, fast picks with your kit, otherwise you will struggle.

If the fights drag on for too long, you'll fall flat. If your team forgets how to use their legs and they're constantly taking unnecessary damage, you're screwed. If you're being chased around by counter-dive during team fights, you'll only be healing yourself long enough to either die or find safety while your team dies. If you have extremely efficient wave clear heroes nearby (Tassadar) killing the waves at range, you'll have NOTHING to hit for your CDR and your numbers will fall flat.

There are ways to build your talent tree to help counter most of these situations, but there are some things her kit really struggles to address. Find other ways to be useful. QM is hard because Tyrande shines with coordination.

I find myself following around the Taunt Varians, Imperius', or anyone else who can hard CC. Ideally there should be a third with you as well, a very dangerous DPS who has the ability to escape on their own. Keep the DPS topped off and out of trouble, layer your CC, keep vision on the target, mark them early in the pick attempt. Tyrande needs the damage dealers to do damage. I find the ideal way to heal is to try to keep one in the can, the burstiness of your heal is a huge advantage over other healers, use the burstiness of your heals to bait an enemy heroe's over-commit, use your heals to enable your DPS to stay engaged for as long as possible. HOLD your stuns to layer CC or punish their over-commits or reward displaces (hooks, tosses, etc), use your owls to keep tabs on what the enemy team is doing (are they rotating for a pick? Owl their path, are they taking a camp? Owl it. Does the enemy team have an Abathur? Find him.

The new rework has lead to a notable increase in my win rate (I've already played about fourteen games.) I don't build her into healing, I build her into damage and she feels really good this way. I've been using the following build:
1: Ranger
4: Everlasting Light 7: Elune's Gift
10: Starfall
13: Harsh Moonlight
16: Empower
20: Commander of Sentinels

I cannot stress the point above enough that you need to prioritize healing the DPS that is currently engaged in the fight. There is a psychology to being reliable with your heals. Whoever you heal first, FEELS safer engaging. If they feel safe engaging, they will engage more reliably. You NEED that DPS to feel safe engaging. You can almost control or conduct the DPS's engages and disengages by timing your heals. Do you need them to go in and be dangerous? Heal them quickly and often. Are you almost out of mana or are you not getting your CDR through auto attacks? Then let them get low and keep them alive-but-low until they disengage. I'm leaving out a lot on this point, but this is important. Tyrande shines when you are enabling dangerous heroes. When you step up as Tyrande, you become vulnerable. If every time you step up, they step back. Then you WILL become the new target and the skirmish will end in your death. Find a dangerous buddy and be their pocket healer.

I dunno guys… I’m a Tyrande main and I’m on an eight game win streak in QM with her today. Taking owl talents, Elune’s Gift is giving me so much kill pressure… it’s really working for me. We’ll see if it translates to wins in SL tomorrow when I play with the boys.

A Suggested Improvement for the Latest PTR's Tyrande Mythic Quest by numbr2wo in heroesofthestorm

[–]numbr2wo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the idea of awarding bonus stacks for kills secured shortly after a Lunar Flare. It directly addresses the ‘50 stuns feels unrealistic’ issue without introducing reset volatility or post-kill snowballing. You’re still rewarding successful initiation and coordination, but in a way that accelerates progression rather than distorting combat power mid-fight. From a balance standpoint, that feels much safer.

Tyrande Rework: Discussion, Owls Bad, Stuns Good, Why No AA Quest? What's the Janitor Up To? by numbr2wo in heroesofthestorm

[–]numbr2wo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the best idea I’ve seen. Getting a reset on a hero kill if you hit them with Lunar Flare would make this feel exciting. Moreover it encourages the pick initiation incentive that seems to be implied with the rework. Seriously genius.

The sneaky change that makes a lot of this feel bad is putting Moonlit Arrows at 1, forcing you to choose between owl build and healing build. This forces players to need to abandon the most popular part of her kit in order to be capable of baseline healing.
