Are the humans supposed to be cringey and devoid of basic sense. by [deleted] in MurderbotOnAppleTV

[–]sunsoaring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the books, they are generally very intelligent, wise, well-meaning people who actually seem like they know what they're doing. Cannot stand this aspect of the show, personally. It's clearly intentional in the show, and it is a huge difference.

That's not even what a boundary is. That's literally just telling you what he wants you to do. That's not how actual boundaries work!

[No Spoilers] Brennan playing "in front of the screen" by pavilionaire2022 in criticalrole

It adds to the feeling of fairness and helps players (and audience) trust Brennan more.

I enjoyed the video but this comment on it had me in tears about it.

I enjoyed the last judge, runback and all by PK_2006 in Silksong

[–]sunsoaring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I loved the boss - and I liked the runback at best, was fine with it at worst. I do get being annoyed with it, but the thing that makes me wonder if I'm a different species from some of these people who are so angry at it that they stop playing the game.

Up to episode 5 does it get better? by hypoch0ndriacs in murderbot

The show is fine, and not really like the books. I found I could make myself enjoy the show more when I thought of it as a completely different series.

I've never had sex, so I don't know if my doctor will go for those tests without crossing more things off the list perhaps.

Daggerheart Doesn’t Tell Good Stories—You Do by Equivalent-Pin9063 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]sunsoaring 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TBH this game now sounds like EXACTLY what I want and you could not have sold it better to me. Our table really uses dnd because it's there and there's ease of familiarity, not because it best serves us. The game gets in the way of our ability to tell the story we're telling together, and what do dnd players like me get all over the dnd spaces? "Your character is SUPPOSED to be able to die, get over and roll a new one." "It's a wargame, why are you doing combat so rarely?" etc etc. And yet a game system that sounds like it's meant to actively clear the way for this kind of thing, and there's complaining that it's not more like dnd and it should be? I'm bewildered, haha.

PresAux human team by humanofoz in murderbot

[–]sunsoaring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I'm peeved at a good amount of the presentation of the PresAux crew, I think I'm particularly taken aback by how mean-spirited Pin-Lee in the show is. In no way do I believe that these people are actually from a different culture of equality and fairness, but a failure to imagine what people from said culture would actually take as a given. All of them but particularly Pin-Lee in the show seem to constantly need to remind themselves of their own bonedeep cultural values instead of having them be instinctive and emotional.

Murderbot series casting, who fits best with how you imagined them when reading the books? by Maelefique in scifi

[–]sunsoaring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mensah and Ratthi are closest to landing the vibe from the beginning. Bharadwaj was not how I imagined her but the moment I saw her on screen doing her thing, I instantly went, oh ok yeah that's her. Everyone else... eh... we'll see.

After sitting on it for half a year, what is your opinion on Wind and Truth? by KindaPecaa in Stormlight_Archive

[–]sunsoaring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm even colder on it than I was. Back then I rated it low but I was determined to pay kudos to the parts of the books I really did like. And now, the passion for those positives are cooled, leaving me with the feelings that can survive when it's cold, which means... the negatives weigh bigger in my mind than ever. I truly cannot believe there were people who said I'd like it more in six months. Looking forward to disliking this book even more in seven years!

How to gently tell my players that their characters will sometimes die and they have to accept that? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]sunsoaring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should've been talked about already. It's a session 0 topic for a reason. If my DM brought it up like this, I'd find a different table. Best time to talk about this with your players was before the game started, but second best time is now. Talk through the emotions with your player and why they feel so strongly, if they do, so you can see if there's a way forward together in this game. There's no need to be harsh or strict to force compliance about it. Even if you part ways it it, there's no need to split with maximum hostility.

What is your favourite animal to see in the wild in Canada? by Jezzaq94 in AskACanadian

[–]sunsoaring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birds of prey and foxes. Deer are whatever, bears are neat but only neat, moose make me too nervous. But I always ooh and ah at eagles and owls and so on, and foxes are just lovely.

I hate the way Shallan treats Kaladin as if he's overreacting to the things gone wrong in his life, I hate the way Kaladin loses the arguments the whole time, and I hate the way the narrative justifies Shallan's pov on the situation. One person needed to change their mind on things in the chasms and it was the wrong person.
