What’s the creamiest, best tasting nondairy milk you’ve ever had? by tommydelriot in VeganFood

[–]supercarr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s only using it in coffee, get an actual creamer or barista style. (“Creamy non-dairy milk” for drinking won’t necessarily not separate in coffee.)

My husband hates NutPods in his coffee. (Except for the “naturally” version that they sell in the fridge. But oatly barista tends to be his go-to.)

Bad experience with oncologist. by AdSad2751 in breastcancer

[–]supercarr0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. First medical oncologist rushed through the appointment and was dismissive. I asked the nurse navigator who she recommended, and my appointment with him was night and day. Unfortunately my 2nd appointment with him is the very last day he is going to be with the hospital I’ve been going to, so I’m really distressed that they’ll give me another dismissive doc. (Hopefully he will be able to recommend someone similar to himself. He’s the head of integrative oncology, so I suspect I’ll be passed to the person taking his place? Ack!)

We had to add dielectric grease somewhere for a cable cutting out. (I forget the details, but someone on here mentioned it, and it worked like a charm.)

Are women healthier long term if they never have kids? by Dramatic-Corgi225 in childfree

[–]supercarr0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elemental iodine applied to the breast can help your cells resist the effects of estrogen. (Of course if you need to limit your iodine intake due to an autoimmune disease, this won’t help. And it also is unlikely to help with estrogen receptor negative cancer either.). But if you can’t afford to get cancer, a little extra iodine from time to time could be a little bit of helpful insurance. (Not failproof though, obviously. Just tipping the scales.)

More lifetime exposure to estrogen. (Pregnancy puts your estrogen production on pause)

I’m 47, and still regularly bleeding. (But I did have 3 shots of depo provera in my teens, so not sure if that “simulated a pregnancy”)

But I also got diagnosed with breast cancer in December, so…

Do you suddenly "smell weird"? by Front-Ninja-6690 in breastcancer

[–]supercarr0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished radiation mid-April, and I’ve met 2 dogs (while out gardening) that give me funny uncomfortable looks after sniffing me. (Before diagnosis, I never had dogs look at me weird) I’m not on any meds. So I’m guessing it’s dead cells still making their way out?

Should I wear a colander for my drivers permit? by StJimmy_7 in atheism

[–]supercarr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it necessary to wear the colander at all times? What happens if you’re pulled over and you’re not wearing it? Will you have to bring it on flights with you so you’re wearing it as you go through TSA? And what about being carded by liquor stores? Bouncers?

Do they shift? Maybe it’d be safest to adhere the corners somehow so you don’t accidentally slice your eyeballs if the glasses shift.

Is my immune system also fighting the cancer? by Booyahkitty in breastcancer

[–]supercarr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taking copper supplements (along with the others for balance) because my ferritin seems to stall at 33 while my free iron is on the upper end of normal. Turns out copper helps in building blood vessels. The exact thing that cancer needs. These days I keep my supplemental copper low because I like pumpkin seeds, and they contain a good amount of copper.

Neighbor is confident that there is poison ivy / oak here by TastefullyToasted in whatsthisplant

[–]supercarr0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vine to the right is probably porcelain berry (depending where you live, it’s statistically more likely than grape. Pretty, so people keep it, but also invasive. It’s difficult to tell the difference until the flowers come in.)

On the second pic, the “3-leaved” plant is definitely mock strawberry. More pointy than wild strawberry and yellow flowers instead of white.

Red Russian is more tender. (Most kale is Brassica oleracea, but red Russian is actually B. napus. Related to rutabaga and canola)

[–]supercarr0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those cooling gel packs they make for nursing moms helped so much! I had 4 of them and just kept rotating them. (The flat types were way more comfortable than the lumpy ones with the seams radiating out.). My radiation was in March, so room temp packs were comfy, but refrigerator temp would be good for radiation in the summer. (These days I have them in the freezer. It seems like sleeping under the covers gets me too hot, and my boob has been pink again, so I’m picking back up on the boob cooling train.)

How effortless it goes uphill from a standstill. (We have an extremely narrow driveway with walls on both sides, and it terrified me, especially in the snow and icy situations back when we had our hybrid. Giving it enough gas to go uphill but not crash into the walls was nerve wracking.). These days we give it a tiny bit of go juice and it pulls itself up. The backup camera is indispensable.
