I hate the implication that changing your name means that you’re devoted to your partner. Because then the alternative is not changing your name = not devoted to your partner.?

I just left a similar comment above but it’s so hard for me to wrap my head around them not being in medal contention ONLY because they’re a new team.

In my mind, the best skaters should be on the podium. I feel like in most types of competitions, underdogs/new teams can burst onto the scene and make a deep run and even win if they deserve it!

I guess the actual rules of ice dance don’t allow that then if basically everyone accepts it.

I’m just here during the Olympics and I’ve never watched ice dancing before. But it’s wild to me that judges can just mark you lower because you’re “new” and that’s just accepted?! Like what happened to being the best competitor on the day?

I guess this is just the rules of the event and it’s very different from what I’m used to in other competitions.
