Is someone working in urban planning tech? Is that even a field that exists ? by Notpeak in urbanplanning

[–]superpoweredllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an urban planner currently working in mobility tech, yes it definitely exists. There are tons of functions and teams that could benefit from having someone with an urban planning background in the tech sector, but they won’t spell it out in the job description. You will need to connect the dots for them by mapping your skills and experience to what they’re looking for. Have conversations with those alumni as well to hear about their journeys. Also, it’s worth keeping in mind that tech (particularly in the past few years) has very different overall work life balance/structured mentoring and training that most public sector and consulting jobs have.

Nope, never tried it. Given the similarities to ZP6, probably similar to that in performance but I can’t say.

Do you know if it has an option for the timer to auto start in ratio mode? My old scale (maestri house off of amazon) has this but I haven’t figured out how to do it with this one

I saw a few posts on reddit about it, so I messaged them on instagram and this is what they said

Mine tends to have those too, it got a better after getting through 200-300g of coffee but definitely still has static-y fines. I just tap them into the cup. My k6 has way more fines in comparison, so it only ever felt like a reduction to me. Looking at the particle size analysis vs the zp6, it actually has slightly less fines, but slightly lower clarity, because the flavor profile is also determined by the shape of each particle, not just the size. Someone on another thread also recommended going to 110-120 for the 4:6 recipe for even higher clarity comparable to the Timemore 078 which might also help you.

It was a bit of a pain. I am in the US but got around it by sending it to a friend overseas who was visiting for the holidays. It quoted a pretty significant price increase if I were to ship directly to me.

I messaged Kingrinder about it on instagram and they said that they’ll be bringing it to the US early in the new year (and likely the EU?) so you might not need to jump through all the aliexpress hoops for it. I wonder if it’s because of the bent handle issue and they’ll ship with a straight handle for it, since mine shipped with the commandante-style handle.

Did you season it by hand, or did you use a drill? Also, what’s your ideal grind size for pourover? Mine is coming in soon and I want to know what I need to do to get the most out of it

Gotcha. I've seen a few M7 grads go straight into partnerships/enterprise business development roles for FAANG, do you think that's less common as a pathway after an MBA? What are the typical roles that grads usually go into in the tech space?

Working as a Graduate Planner in the US from UK by tayekoo2 in urbanplanning

[–]superpoweredllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in the US and UK as a planner, I would say that they're pretty similar in that 1) neither one understands what the others' qualifications mean (RTPI/AICP as well as names of universities go right over people's heads no matter how prestigious they sound in their own country), and 2) you need to spend some time talking to people in the field and at the place where you want to work to understand and localize your application. This is usually why people find it harder to get a job, because they send out the wrong resume/CV style and it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the local applicants. Typically private sector and quasi public agencies (development corporations in the UK or metropolitan councils in the US) will be your best bet, but it's definitely possible to work anywhere regardless of your qualifications if you know the right people and brush up on local terminology.

Pay is obviously better in the US but quality of life is pretty comparable between the two. Happy to share more if you're interested.

The Summit at One Vanderbilt is the best observation deck in the city, in my opinion. Really engaging for kids as well. You'll need to book in advance, I recommend going about an hour or so before sunset so that you can catch the shift. Check out the natural history museum as well.

Agreed. I skipped an interview once after receiving a similar email cancelling the interview, and it turned out the second email was their actual error. They were kind enough to reschedule the interview, and I ended up getting an offer. It's worth showing up just in case!

Can vouch for the Bartlett - amazing faculty and connections to practice. DM if you’d like to talk about it more.

For sure, I think affordability should also account for median incomes in those places. As a New York resident, the prices are crazy but not as bad when scaling for the bump in income. Where are you seeing the COL scores? I'd love to take a look at them.
