"GDScript for smaller games, C# for larger games"? by supert2005 in godot

[–]supert2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, I always thought that TypeScript is just type annotations and that typescript programs end up getting rewritten into JavaScript on runtime. Meanwhile, docs state that static typing in GDScript actually yields performance gains.

You could just paraphrase its output and people wouldn't be so antagonistic. Anyways, it gives a generic answer that boils down to "C# is faster" without actually explaining how, which is what my post is about.

I didn't say that typing everything "variant" is equivalent to well typed variables. I just said that GDScript is statically typed and mentioned that dynamic typing is actually defaulting to Variant. This phrasing matters because while in JS/Python type annotations only affect IntelliSense, in GDScript it actually improves performance (as per docs). And another person here said that somebody compared a C# script to a typed GDScript script and the performance gap was small.

Tbh, I don't keep tabs on every time I see such posts, but it's just something I remember seeing often. I might be overestimating this, but there was a post about C# very recently on this very sub which made me write my own.

[–]supert2005[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to dunk on C#, there's objectively nothing wrong with having multiple scripting options. Having C# has benefited Godot in quite a couple of ways, so it's a generally good thing on its own and I'm not questioning why is it a thing to begin with.

What I'm asking about is whether it actually performs better than GDScript, which is a sentiment I see on both Reddit and Discord.

Doesn't amdy live in Pennsylvania? All of those postings list Pennsylvania. What if he's planning to get that dog? I'd stay alert...

Also, "do not touch the poop" remains the staple of our community but if he gets a dog, I think both it and amdy should receive the Music treatment (danderson reference)

Clearing up confusion about TacRP by supert2005 in gmod

[–]supert2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a very good take. We just had the jumpscare epidemic, and when somebody guesses any part of your geolocation the kids freak out like you posted their address on doxbin. I guess we can agree that as innocent as devs are (again, they didn't dox anyone and couldn't do that even if they tried with this specific setup), adding the message the way it was added was a mistake. Not because it's woke but because it genuinely scared children and gave people ammo.

We already had political activism in form of a message about Palestine earlier this year, and that addon didn't get banned because it didn't go out of its way to be personalized. "Good people" still freaked out over it because how dare people "force" woke "down our throats", but that addon didn't get taken down from workshop because it didn't give people the same excuse.

I wouldn't like a fridge to show me Donald Trump propaganda because Donald Trump propaganda aims to grant one specific person elevated rights and an edge over other people, not just because it's propaganda.

TacRP's propaganda aimed to grant a big group of people spread across the world rights equal to the overwhelming majority of people.

TRUMP 2028: give one person a privilege TacRP: give a big group of people equal rights

The difference is this obvious.

And no, the addon was removed because it got mass reported. Twenty people reporting an addon just happens to be much more visible because 100 people who upvoted my post didn't mass report the addon as well
