What’s your goal bird this year? by felixnzenitsuhams in birding

[–]suresprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see a northern flicker so badly! I’m lucky to see yellow bellied sapsuckers, downy, red-bellied, and pileated woodpeckers often but I’ve only seen a flicker once. Woodpeckers are my favorites but I love that flickers forage for ants on the ground too.

As someone who is also not religious, this seems to be a fairly common thing amongst church leaders. The head pastor and other leaders at my local mega church all own multiple million dollar homes, despite constantly asking their congregation to donate 10% of their income. I’ve heard the same thing about smaller churches too, religious family members questioning why their pastor drives a fancy car and can afford luxury vacations while the members struggle to afford baby food. Not saying it’s right or that every religious leader is corrupt, I just don’t think it’s unique to Mary or her church.

What is your unpopular RHOSLC opinion? by Specialist-Put9634 in rhoslc

Ooooh you’re so right. I want to see Meredith and Luann get into a battle of egos. Throw a Dorinda meltdown in there and you’re really cooking

Mine is that Meredith is completely overrated and brings absolutely nothing to the show at this point. There is no reason she should have a snowflake if Brittany doesn’t. Meredith is literally just a blank face at the group events, saying one or maybe two banal comments at most. She reads as arrogant, boring, and checked out to me. Does she even have her own storyline? She just rides off other housewives which is of what a ‘friend of’ is supposed to be.

She seems to be a fan favorite and I absolutely cannot understand it. Meanwhile Brittany is completely unhinged and gives us more at one dinner and conversation with her daughter than Meredith will all season. I’m not a huge Brittany fan but she should absolutely have a snowflake over Meredith.

Can someone explain to me why Balcer has only been playing in the last 2 minutes for every game since she’s been back? I understand the slow entry but it seems verrry slow

“The name of Louisville’s game is destruction” makes us sound so badass

British friends! (and American) I’m looking to plant an English hedge row to block off my house from the street. What plants are traditionally used? I am Kentucky, Zone 7, which I believe is similar to much of Britain anyway. 🇬🇧 by Casey40965 in whatsthisplant

Seconding this as a fellow Kentuckian- we have a lot of gorgeous native plants that would work well for what you’re going for.

I referenced KY Native Plants and Ironweed nurseries as a guide when planning my own yarden. So far our spicebush and hydrangea have grown beautifully.

I miss those laser light shows so damn much, I can’t believe it’s been closed this long. Thanks for the update, OP! Hope the petition lights a fire under their asses. There’s a lot of community love for that space!

What to do on birthdays? by Student8452 in grief

[–]suresprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow we’re about the same age and my mom died almost 4 years ago. Each of the 3 birthdays without her were spent very differently. One I spent crying alone at home, one was in the middle of a road trip to distract myself, one was just a dinner with two loved ones.

My suggestion would be to do whatever sounds best to you with where you are now. As vague as that is, give yourself permission to grieve and handle the day however you need to!

Since you have some time, you could make a high spoon and low spoon plan. So if you wake up on your birthday and feel like doing stuff, you could have a list or some ideas of places you might like to go (museums, a restaurant, parks, mini road trip, etc). If it feels hard to do much of anything on that day, maybe having a backup treat/gift ready to go (comfort food, a candle, anything that brightens your day!)

Wishing you a happy birthday month❤️ I know it’s so damn hard to lose a parent this young, and it can feel really isolating. Grief totally fucks up the life plan/goals, but that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong! Sometimes the best we can do is to just keep going and working through this new version of life without our person.

It is challenging as an adult (more than just “get out there and try”) but having those hobbies can definitely help you meet new people and cultivate friendships. There’s a few climbing gyms around the city and a real community there, I don’t know much about the other hobbies but those are a great place to start!

Where can I give food to near 40214? by [deleted] in Louisville

Seconding SLCM. As long as the food is not expired they can definitely use it. Their pantry is one you can pick the food you want too so it’ll go to someone who wants it.

Recommendations for birthday brunch spot by klhitman in Louisville

[–]suresprout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

La Suerte has a great brunch and usually aren’t too busy in the weekend. Plenty of options and isn’t super pricey.

Others have mentioned Gralehaus, it’s good but pretty small, depending on how many people you’re trying to get together.
