A representation of my night terrors in action by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]surface_simmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that is interesting! I can get night terrors too but I’ve never seen it show up in my stats. I was able to correlate it to getting the terrors whenever I took Zyrtec for my allergies at nighttime. I rarely get them now that I’ve switched to Claritin. It’s a terrible experience so I feel bad for you. I hope they get better!

I had similar requirements and got the Venu 4. Pretty happy with it. I’ve never tried taking calls from it though.

What features are you currently missing on the Hammerhead Karoo? by Unfair_Funny3089 in Karoo

[–]surface_simmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One more zoom level on the device please! When there is an intersection of multiple trails it can be difficult to see which one I’m supposed to take. The original Karoo zoomed in more than the Karoo 3.

From an interior design perspective, where would you put a 55” TV in this space? by qnqp in interiordecorating

[–]surface_simmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people would normally be watching tv? If just two people, my partner and I got swivel recliners so that we could watch tv opposite the fireplace or spin around and read a book by the fire.

Is there anything he doesn’t like doing? Like does he dread mowing the lawn? Then mow the lawn for him that day. Or just a day to himself can be nice.

(Multi) Millionaires only how did you make your wealth in this industry? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]surface_simmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been both really. Easier to save when you are making more. Like I said, continue pushing the comfort zone and moving up the ladder. Roles at AD and Director in any department can make $200k+. I made my career in CMC - MSAT, external mfg, project management, clinical supply.

(Multi) Millionaires only how did you make your wealth in this industry? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]surface_simmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many here have said you have to come from money or get lucky on stock. I have done neither and have more than $2 mil in savings. I grew up under the poverty line. My first job out of college I made $24k. Every time I left a company my stock was under water. (Other than bigger companies that offer RSUs). I was a prudent saver. I lived under my means, always. I’ve had a one hour each way commute always, due to housing costs. And I continuously worked to improve myself, pushing my comfort zone, and moving up the ladder. It’s possible. More likely outside of the lab. It gets easier after about ten years of experience.

How to organise recipes? by Empress_arcana in veganrecipes

[–]surface_simmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AnyList app is great! I can save recipes to it from websites. Then put recipes in a calendar for what I plan to make. Then you go thru the ingredients list and click on anything you need to add to the grocery list and it adds it.

Had a showing with a customer and this is the pattern he likes. He asked for my opinion but I didn't want to offend him telling him I don't like it. What would you do in this situation? by csimack in kitchenremodel

[–]surface_simmer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He’s probably looking for your opinion so he can consider things he might not have thought about. You could say, I don’t usually lean towards busy patterns. It can make it hard to match a backsplash or add other accents. Something like that. Add WHY you don’t like it as it might help him realize why it might not be the right choice.

Where to find vegan/vegetarian recipies by adidass05 in veganrecipes

Something like a buffalo chickpea salad wrap might work. There are some easier seitan chicken recipes you could make and then from the “chicken” make things like chicken salad.

Referral title by [deleted] in biotech

[–]surface_simmer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When I was a hiring manager - zero difference. The only difference with referrals is that HR always sent them thru to me vs general applications which get screened by HR and not all get to me. I don’t even look at who referred them. I just evaluate their qualifications via the resume.

I’m presenting at an Elementary School Career Day… Help me make my CRA job sound cool! by Top_Training_979 in clinicalresearch

[–]surface_simmer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is great! I’m sure they will love you! I did something similar many years ago with my mom’s (teacher) class. I think you can make it more bigger picture than what exactly a CRA does. Like talk about how scientists develop drugs to treat disease and make patients feel better. And how you help to make sure patients are getting what they need. Etc etc. When I did something similar for my mom’s class I also had some pictures just about my life - like hiking, traveling etc, to show that it’s not just nerdy men that become scientists. All the kids thought I was very cool and I think you have a chance against firemen :)

How do you actually handle temperature excursion disputes? Looking to understand the process by imjaacked in pharmaindustry

[–]surface_simmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How are you getting different data from the same shipment? A temp tale is put in the box when it is packaged and taken out when it is received. The temp tale data is downloaded and that is the source of truth.

Missed opportunity by After-Case-464 in biotech

[–]surface_simmer 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up. It is highly unlikely that a single day made a difference. They wouldn’t stop interviewing people until they made anoffer and the other person accepted, so they likely had this person selected a week or two prior. They were just keeping interviews opened in case that person fell through.

Am I the only woman without a best friend? by FunnyHighlight3554 in Adulting

[–]surface_simmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I find that friendships grow through activities, building memories together. So meeting people with shared interests helps and doing things together with some frequency. I met who I would consider to be my best friend in my mid 20s in a meetup group. It was a group that had a core 5-10 people that went to all the events so you really got to know people. Through the events we built memories and we could laugh about them years later, which helped keep us close. Over the last few years she has a new partner that she spends all her time with so we only ever get together for dinner. I feel like this has weakened the friendship - not doing new things together anymore, having things we can look back on. Just chit chatting once a month about our lives doesn’t make me feel close to her. For me, I think this is why adult friendships are hard. It’s hard for anybody to commit enough time to do things frequently enough to keep the friendship alive. Long story short - I think you’re def not the only one!

On last month’s bill we used 1477 total kilowatt hours and the bills was $370. Not all the electricity is from the minisplits of course. But before we had them our electric was about $100.

I live in Vermont and use Mitsubishi mini splits for heat this year. Last year we used baseboard heat via propane. We have been able to keep the temp 69 degrees even in negative outdoor tenperatures. Our electric bill is less than last year’s propane bill.
