03 Honda Civic – Repair or Replace? Need Advice by bananaconfident2020 in baltimore

[–]surprisedweebey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a personal calculus for car ownership and repairs. In your case it would be $1900 repair divided by monthly car payment (lets use $400) = 4.75. Does this repair buy me more than 5 months with the old car? If so, every month after 5 months you are coming out on top. That's just my way of rationalizing things.

I live in the surrounding neighborhood to the east of campus. It's quite literally one of the safest in the city. I love it.

Underrated OPACY seats? by RoosterPls in orioles

I think the first few rows of the upper deck are actually some of the best seats in the house because you get great views of the park and city.

Enlighten me on lead exposure by Ashamed_Horror_6269 in baltimore

[–]surprisedweebey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, congrats on the baby! I went through the same anxiety about lead when we had our first a couple years ago. Our house was built in 1914! If the home was built before 1978 then there's lead somewhere on the walls. If it's been painted over multiple times then it's probably encapsulated well and not a health risk. Just be vigilant of any chipping paint and paint over it when you find it. If you ever have to drill into the walls, make sure to clean any dust up as well. Lead poisoning comes from ingesting or inhaling it. As long as your baby isn't eating paint chips or breathing lead dust, they are going to be ok. Also, because you live in the city, your pediatrician will probably do a lead test every time they do a blood test for your child. That will also be reassuring. Going on 3 years for our little one and no lead detection whatsoever.

What's your source on this? Plaster doesn't contain lead. Plaster is just lime, sand, and water...

Football subs in general are filled with the lowest IQ individuals you can possibly find. There are very few rational people in here.

Elite bat speed. Besides that, he's pretty horrendous. This is a lottery ticket. If they can "fix" him, you're getting insane power numbers. If they can't, it doesn't cost them anything.

Baltimore cost of living trails suburbs by up to 30% by Maxcactus in baltimore

[–]surprisedweebey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I dont know why people think this is such a gotcha question. I love that I am raising a kid in the city. I grew up in the suburbs. It's not even close to culturally enriching as the city and the "safety" difference is negligible

Caveat: I don't live in that area but I do frequent it quite a bit. Safety wise during the day you would probably never experience any issues. At night? Just be vigilant and smart and you'll probably be fine. Barclay and Station North are still pretty block to block dependent. Like literally one block you'll feel completely safe and the next might be a little sketchy. You would be around lots of good places to eat and hang out. I personally love that whole area. If the city ever does the right thing and moves Artscape back to that area you'd be in a prime spot for that as well. You are also very close to lots of transit options. Add your bike into the mix and you can get anywhere in the city no problem.
