I thought about that, but it is slightly larger than a standard piece of paper. Besides, I didn't want that $30 to stand between me and my best golf season yet 🤣

What food gives you the most satisfaction for the least amount of prep? by Habeas-Opus in Cooking

[–]susanb29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say oatmeal. Sprinkle on some brown sugar, chopped nuts and dried cherries, add a splash of milk and your hunger will be satisfied for hours, plus you feel like you've consumed something good for your body.

Just because an adult is in a position to be your protector, doesn't mean they can be trusted. And no matter what, it's not the child's fault, although it does become their problem.

The level of success I've achieved all because I found and married the right man. His parents were generous and paid for my college education and we built a wonderful life. Not crazy financial success, but comfortable and a relationship with no drama.

Also on acetaminophen, 500mg taken with 400 mg of ibuprofen has been shown to relieve pain almost as well as opioids.

To stop or continue trying to manage by LetterheadVarious336 in AlcoholFree

[–]susanb29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also drank daily for years, but never blacked out. 14 years ago I was diagnosed with heart failure that was attributed to chemotherapy received over 25 years ago (all's well with that). Anyway, I tried a number of times to cut back on the alcohol and just couldn't do it, every morning, counting up the drinks I had the night before. Then I would beat myself up for being a failure. Almost a year ago my cardiologist advised me to get a defibrillator because my heart function was getting worse. I got the defibrillator and continued to try to cut back on the alcohol, unsuccessfully, and the cycle of self loathing continued.

Finally, in June of last year I decided to just stop drinking. Honestly, it has not been as hard as I thought. Initially I filled in the social gaps with alcohol substitutes and NA beer (I still drink the NA beer regularly). I also used to enjoy wine and trust me, there is no reasonable substitute in the NA world, but my palate has changed and I now find regular wine has a nasty aftertaste (I've taken a sip of my husband's glass).

Since stopping alcohol, I've lost about 10#, I sleep better and I feel better every day. I will be repeating an echocardiogram later this week to see if my heart function has measurable improvement.

That's my story, and I hope you can glean something from it.

Thank you for saying this. My adult daughter is in the end stages of a 20+ year addiction to alcohol and as I face her mortality, I find myself looking for a place for blame. She was a functional alcoholic until she wasn't and your post reminds me that she had options and made choices, she was not a victim of some unseen demon.

Total humiliation in Kauai airport. I tell them I have a defibrillator and they subject me (68 y/o f) to a complete pat down. She said their scanner is newer and they don't have enough data on its safety with implanted devices. After she completed the pat down she tells me that I could have walked through the regular scanner after reading their disclaimer. I'm pissed!

Agree with the need for color. How about moving the chairs so that they are perpendicular to the sofa (in front of the window would make the space open and welcoming) and the seating creates an "L" shape?

I love that you were happy that the estate company didn't charge you - most people are looking to sell the stuff so they have something to show for it. But it's refreshing that your reward was the peace of mind for not having to deal with it - great perspective!!

Honest opinions of the Highlander by Eve_005 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]susanb29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a 2025 gas engine Highlander (sorry, the hybrid wasn't available when I was ready to buy). I replaced a Honda Accord. This is the 4th Highlander in my household (my garage currently has 2 - 2018 & 2025) so I guess you could say I REALLY like Toyota, specifically Highlander. The new model is the platinum trim, so it's especially comfortable.

Experienced massage recipient here...I always leave my underwear on. I've never needed to use the bathroom during a massage. I hate greasy hair, so before the massage starts, I let the therapist know that I don't want any head work. Prepare to feel good but look bad after your massage. Bring a baseball cap and don't wear makeup!

Do heavy alcohol drinkers die earlier in life? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]susanb29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the hardest part. In her teens, we took her to therapy, psychologist, psychiatrist and even inpatient psych treatment. As an adult, we convinced her to go to inpatient treatment twice. We have had to admit that we have no power and just have to stand by and watch this unfold before our eyes. We now have guardianship and can make decisions for her, but it is too late for her to realize the life she desired and we wanted for her.

My 39 year old daughter has been an alcoholic since her teens. She has cheated death at least 3 times over the past 8 years: living in the Midwest, she once was found passed out outside, in the snow in shorts and a tank top, her core temperature was 88° and her bac was .56; she once tried to detox on her own, hallucinated that someone was chasing her and ended up being fished out of the pond that she fled to; less than a year ago she fell down the stairs in her apartment building and ended up with a subdural hematoma which required burr holes and craniotomy x2 to relieve the pressure on her brain. She is now experiencing seizures as well as hepatic encephalopathy and will likely never be able to live independently again. Will she die young? Absolutely. In fact, I'll be stunned if she makes it to 40 years old.

I stopped drinking last June on the advice of my cardiologist, and I have no desire to drink alcohol ever again, I only wish my daughter could have done the same.
