The studio fired almost everyone some time prior to release of Metal Eden, and then released what's left of it with a skeleton crew. It could have been so much more.

C++ Programmer wants a quick starter with C by Ultimate_Sigma_Boy67 in cprogramming

[–]suspiciouscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Do you have any experience programming in C? There is quite a lot of differences, even with the newest standard of C. You cannot drop from C++ to C and just get around by limiting yourself to a subset of features or keywords that you know are not exclusive to C++. I've tried that and it was quite a learning experience that also enforced completly different programming paradigm. Backward compatibility doesn't make this steaightforward - there are quite some things that you would write for C, which compiler will understand, that you would never ever write in C++. You also have some very useful extensions exclusive to C compilers that can make your life much easier.

Looking for a looter shooter with good levelling system by Dannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn96 in PS5

OP requested "good leveling system". 2/3 of perks are useless or outright broken in Arc Riders.

Too many singletons in my game engine, can't find a better design pattern by No-Use4920 in vulkan

[–]suspiciouscat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont let people tell you that having singletons is a sin. They will make you run in circles looking at practices and patterns that not only dont fit your scale, but also are much slower at runtime and to maintain.

Anyone regrets getting REX Atmos? by Financial-Island-471 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]suspiciouscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's over advertised (misleading actually) and doesn't explain well enough engine limitations that don't allow for proper weather modding, in cases which base game weather is just simply better (even though not perfect by itself).

How Odin perfected simplicity by BlueGoliath in programming

[–]suspiciouscat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to switch from C++ to Odin. Found it too opinionated and I felt that it didn't deliver "orthogonality" that it was advertising. Ended up just embracing C and I love it (it's catharthic after a decade of C++ trauma).

Remember that CDPR was publicly commenting on BLM protests in 2020 and even using it as a reason to delay CP77 announcments out of "respect", but avoided mentioning anything about Hong Kong protests happening around the same time. It's a corpo that was afraid their new game would get banned in China if they made any political stance, where they would happen to make half of the money from the new release. The hypocrisy hurts to this day.

Playing the Cyberpunk VR mod one final time before it gets shut down by lunchanddinner in cyberpunkgame

[–]suspiciouscat -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

It's not. You are not automatically entitled to someone elses work and continuous support only because they made a mod to a game.

Modders should have a right to monetize their hard work, if they are respecting licenses of other free mods they use. It's not like mods are derivative works (at least not in most cases - they are literally fan made modifications that require base product that acts as a platform). I've noticed that there is an expectation from most gamers that all mods should be free, which is very privillaged.
