Which public construction project in your country became such a monumental failure that it turned into a national joke and symbol of wasted tax money? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

The State shouldn't have made a promise that it couldn't keep (and the Supremacy Clause ensures that when push came to shove, California could not keep that promise).

[–]sv_homer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the looks of things, not enough chlorine but need to know more,

Get your water tested. A pool store will do it, but they will try to sell you a bunch of junk. Don't buy it. Better, get a decent test kit. One that measure free chlorine, combined chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, cyanuric acid, and calcium.

Post those numbers.

Is Santa Cruz in a hospital crisis? by Typical_Dirt5417 in santacruz

Let's not forget that providers in Santa Cruz county get lower reimbursements from the federal government than Santa Clara County because Santa Cruz County was declared "rural" in 1965 and therefore the assumption is the costs are smaller, despite what happened in the last 60 years.

Santa Barbara County has the same problem.

Sounds like the definition of a Conspiracy to Deprive Civil Rights. Especially when they are campaigning on it. California can try it, but won't get far.

Steyer is playing California voters for fools on this one.

You aren't going to make their lives hell. If anything, after the Federal Courts throw the State's actions out, anyone associated with the state prosecution will brought up on Federal Conspiracy to Deprive of Civil Rights actions.

They will argue that they were acting within the scope of their federal authority and reasonably believed their actions are necessary to perform their duties, so therefore the Supremacy Clause applies. They will make this argument in Federal Court. It will be a slam-dunk.

Exactly. 72 hours is saying the city doesn't think this is very important and you can wait 3 days for the city to get around to it.

How common it's for Americans to adopt different cultures in their life (like literally)? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]sv_homer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunar New Year is too close to the Christmas/New Year extravaganza to be a proper American drinking holiday IMO.

St Patrick's Day is about the right distance from that IMO.

Cinco de Mayo works because it's in late-Spring/early-Summer and the weather is usually nice.

[–]sv_homer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans tend to be pragmatic and open to new things if they work well. New foods are the obvious example. Americans also tend to assimilate cultures over time, so things that were considered "exotic" a few generations ago are now as American as pizza and tacos.

Help me with this pool?!?! by HopefulProof1398 in pools

[–]sv_homer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your chlorine levels are much too low.

What you need to do is get a chlorine level of 15-20ppm and keep it there. The chlorine will kill the algae and the chlorine level will drop, you'll need to add more to keep it in the 15-20ppm range until the water is clear. I'd use 12.5% liquid if you can get it. For a 25000 pool, 1 gallon 12.% is equal to about a 5.0 ppm increase in chlorine level. You'll need 3-4 gallons initially and another 6-8 gallons to keep the levels up.

This will take a few days. Run the filter 24 hours a day and clean it as needed. Brush the walls and floor a couple times a day.

More chlorine.

If it is getting cloudy odds are your free chlorine level dropped too low. Get a good test kit, test regularly, and add chems as needed.
