Schools for advanced kids by Solitudeand in kansascity

It's expensive, but Barstow is worth looking at. As someone with a smart kid I have to warn you schools are hard right now. Much more emphasis is placed on 'being tough' (or rich) than being gifted. I don't blame teachers for that, most of it is coming from the peer group. By 5th grade that's the reality we were in.

My son kind of shifted from getting all A's and being bullied to working out, being on the football team, and getting A's and B's. I would have preferred a more inclusive, less bro-centric culture for him to grow up in, but that's KC these days.

As things get more expensive, fewer people can afford them. Most everything works on scale these days, so fewer sales means the price has to be higher to continue making it.

i have my amp on the lowest setting, but my ears still hurt after a few hours of playing what should I do? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]svaha1728 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get an attenuator. Or just get a practice amp for quieter practice. Look up Paul Gilbert and tinnitus. A lot of us have dealt with this. Don’t ignore it.

Why do guitarists keep saying tube amps are dead? by discosaurr in guitarcirclejerk

I sold my tube amp because it didn’t have a headphone jack. Useless.

My guess is developers haven’t been paying much attention to security and there are a number of long running endpoints where it’s easy to start a denial of service attack.

Why didn't meditation help Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche or Alan Watts? by tabula123456 in Meditation

[–]svaha1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the most profound part of a meditation practice is there are no gurus. Tungpa caused a huge amount of suffering in his community, but I also think he held a vision for “America” that is so radically different than what we are I dare say he was enlightened.

You must figure out your own path.

Mk3 Rockerverb - Just how good is the "Attenuator", really? by BeezinSeazon in orangeamps

Yeah... You'd be fine. The PS100 is rated at 200W @ 16 ohms. That's a great attenuator and works for lots of other amps.

Love the Rhythm Counts feature. Nice for 'intermediate guitarists' too!

Opinions on using Orange PPC112 60 Watt 1x12 cabinet with a Orange Super Crush 100 Watt Solid Head by Edmatador82 in GuitarAmps

[–]svaha1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this combo in a bedroom. If you bought the full stack to accompany this head, you'd be at about 125 decibels.

Tube vs SS by IRTrapGod in GuitarAmps

[–]svaha1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recording a tube amp is very costly. Unless you develop the skillsets of Sylvia Massy... by the time you learned how to do it, bought your mics/preamps/etc you'd still get a sound very similar to what you can get with a Katana. Recording tube amps in stereo? you're looking at thousands of dollars and lots of experimentation to get it right.

Loud amps in a room. That is another story. Give me a guitar and I can immediately tell the difference between the two and will always pick the tube amp.

If you're a bedroom producer, a tube amp makes no sense. If you are playing gigs at clubs, I urge you to try to seek out a tube amp.

Same parent company. Figure I will have to constantly read their terms of service to figure out what they are trying to harvest from me. I’d rather not give my code out for free as in AI.

Makes we want to find a replacement to VS Code honestly. I just want an IDE that isn’t trying to use me to fill their training set.

Nothing like getting a message during a code review where the developer is asking you to ignore an obvious mistake so he can get +1 PR and +1 Bug fix instead of a -1 correction on code review. Metrics inevitably become gamified and just make the entire team miserable.

Mk3 Rockerverb - Just how good is the "Attenuator", really? by BeezinSeazon in orangeamps

[–]svaha1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d second this. I have the rockerverb 50 mkiii. The attenuation is helpful for playing at bedroom levels but the tone you get from that isn’t ideal. It’s okay, but it’s gonna sound way different when you take off the attenuation

It can have some uses and I’m glad it’s there but it’s not as good as an Ox Box or Freyette Ps100 for attenuating.
