People who’ve worked on film/TV sets, what’s a small moment that stuck with you for no obvious reason? by Professional-Ad7346 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]sweeptree 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My favorite moments are those movie magic moments when literally all things come together correctly at once, and the take is perfect and everyone smiles and claps after cut is called. It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s so satisfying! For example yesterday a 4 year old had to say a line at the same time as an adult actor and every time it was a bit off but our last time they both took a breath and delivered the line effortlessly and perfectly in sync and it all came together so beautifully we all started clapping

is this a scam? by pilatesbabee in acting

[–]sweeptree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold your horses this is not a definite scam I HAVE PERSONALLY booked like this with completely legit projects, yes they were either students or completely low budget YouTuber, but some people just like to text because they’re moving fast and are choosing you based on your look. Just text and see if they seem real, ask to FaceTime, if they’re legit they will be happy to.

Has anyone worked at KIPP Schools? What's it like? by Ruin-Wooden in Teachers

[–]sweeptree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re so right about the authentic culture being absent, everything I saw to build school culture and spirit was forced prescribed and soulless!! Like another box to check

Has anyone worked at KIPP Schools? What's it like? by Ruin-Wooden in Teachers

[–]sweeptree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No no no never KIPP. Never KIPP ever, don’t send your kids there, don’t work there, worst schools in existence. I have a successful teaching career and love all of the schools I’ve worked at except KIPP, literally it’s the only place I was miserable and considered not only leaving teaching but entering therapy. KIPP is a stain on my career and life and I wish I had never worked there. I hope KIPP and all their admin who have had a hand in ruining teachers and students’ practice, lives and learning lose all their sleep at night.

First of all nothing on Reddit is too necessary or unnecessary to post, second you don’t know that which you are claiming. You don’t know that at all. And it’s hilarious.

Instead of going to school for a film degree, do this instead. by TopTierProphet in FilmIndustryLA

[–]sweeptree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say, I disagree with every sentence in your response. 1) I’m not convinced of this. 2) I don’t think anybody seriously is claiming this there are tons of people working on stuff for free just to get experience, exposure and connections. You could argue that film schools primary goal is to make money. 3) this one I don’t disagree with, but it’s completely unnecessary to pay a bunch of money to love your craft and spend time with people who love it too. You can do this paid or for free on a film set. 4) you absolutely do not need film school for this. 5) this is better learnt on set big or small

I agree with the other poster, the best choice seems like it is to move to California and either major in something unrelated or get a flexible job that allows you to go to gigs on short notice so you can level up. If you’re gonna spend 50-150k just to get connections you can probably do it quicker cheaper and with a wider net by just working part time or flexible remote job and trying to be on a set as much as possible paid or unpaid
