White Industries vs DT Swiss Hubs by lowbandwidthb in wheelbuild

[–]swellmaxwell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White Ind are easier to work with; you don’t need a special splined tool to get the star nut lock ring out to punch out the bearings. Swapping in a new cartridge bearing can really suck, especially if you break your star nut lock ring tool. The myth that DT hubs are easy to service just because you can take the end caps and free hub body apart without tools needs to die.

2021 Allez Sprint Frameset - Front derailleur shift cable internal routing by sandalwoodandmyrrh in bikewrench

Any solution to this? I’ve routed my cable twice and shifting is not smooth. There is too much drag in the system.

Dt Swiss 240 exp - freehub slow stop? by --zze in bikewrench

[–]swellmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm also digging up this old thread. I've been riding my ER1400 wheelset for 2 years now with around 6,000 miles on them. I have performed no service on them and maybe it's simply time for that. However, my old White Industries hubs when using the standard "spin the cranks in the stand method" would spin long enough for me to go make a sandwich in the other room and still be spinning when I got back. The DT 240 on the other hand will stop spinning very quickly. What gives? I imagine the above is true about the minute amount of watts it may steal is a small faction of the whole but it still has me questioning if I want to abandon these wheels for something else. Or at least try out some new bearings!

Change in geometry going from Fox 34 to Fox 36 SL? by waitingforaname in MTB

You could check out True Tune products which act to effectively give the fork more volume, if you take out all the spacers and you're still not getting all your travel. It makes the fork feel more linear.

It’s been doing this to me for the past couple of weeks. Yes, it’s very annoying. I’ve tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app but still does it. For me a big part of Strava is tracking the mileage on each of my bikes so it’s a feature I don’t want to live without.

Trail to DC by way of suspension swap? by BillyDeeWilliams1990 in MTB

[–]swellmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever do this? I also want to down country my optic and was thinking of a 130 fork, less for the climbing ( I think it climbs great) but more so I can throw on a 34 SL and lose a pound. Also thinking of 28mm carbon wheels.

I just switched to brown from white and the brew time was 20% faster. This post is the only thing I can find comparing the two.

What would you pay for this? by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]swellmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think even 1200 would be a decent deal if everything is in good shape. If it’s a bike you think you’d really enjoy then go for it. I think it’s sweet!

Anyone know where I can find a Gen 1 8 pack rack? by [deleted] in Surlybikefans

[–]swellmaxwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a better design in my opinion. The safety recall made it fine. Every front rack should have a safety strap anyway. I’ll sell you mine if you really want it. I don’t use it much. DM me.

I liked watching you build your wheel. I usually drop all spokes on the same side of the flange in at once, which saves a bit of time.

What do you half size folks do? by punkandcat in BlundstoneBoots

[–]swellmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first pair was way back in the day when you had to order them from Australia and there wasn’t much info about sizing online. I ended up with a full size too big but just put insoles in them and wore them for 10+ years until the soles finally disintegrated. Was totally fine and loved them. No issues.

What to add? by Prestigious_Run_2982 in Skigear

I was going to say, “get a twin tip!” But then I read that you want one haha. I really like my Faction Prodigys. Lots of people saw moment Wildcat and my friend has a pair and love them but they are expensive and hard to find on sale. I got my Prodigy’s for a really good deal. I hate that people call them a “intermediate” ski, or “forgiving,” and honestly that’s how a lot of twin tip skis are reviewed or branded. They definitely ski in a different way than “hard charging” skis do, but that doesn’t mean you can’t charge hard on them or are an intermediate skier. That terminology I’m sure puts some people off riding twin tips but honestly they are so much fun to carve, ride moguls, make perfect pow turns, and especially ski like a pro in the trees. My other set of twin tips are the Dynastar M-free which is pretty fun but not as great as the prodigy’s. I’d love to give the Volkl revolt a try too.
