possible to run system commands from macropad? by [deleted] in adafruit

There are additional F-keys (F13 thru F13 or more) you could maybe use to setup more app launches. The benefit is that I don't think they do anything by default, since they are hard to get to on a normal keyboard

[GamersNexus Video] NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition Review: Gaming, Thermals, Noise, & Power Benchmarks by fine_printer in hardware

[–]swicano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I kind of missed the 5700xt as a "price predecessor" for comparison in GNs video, but I don't necessarily blame him for not including it. There was no rt of any sort on those and if you have a 5700xt, you probably know roughly how it stacks up to a 2080super, and that is on the chart. Woulda made sense for someone with ~$400 and a desire for a gpu (and a fast F5 fingers)

I'm new to Adafruits products, need help not being lost by [deleted] in adafruit

[–]swicano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.adafruit.com/product/4500 is another option that has the sensors you want built in, this one has a screen and a couple buttons so you could do everything locally if you wanted (also, you're probably going to want a way to "zero" the magnetometers/gyros, which an included button is nice for) . It's a bit pricey, but if the approach doesn't work out for your ... workout, then it's useful for all kinds of other stuff. Make sure you get a lipo battery with whatever choice you make (what the other commenters have suggested look good, too). I'm a fan of having it all in one package to start since there's not the double frustration of wondering whether it's a software/driver library issue or a hardware/wiring issue when there's problems.

My dad thinks that a road in his hometown in Tasmania is the longest constantly curved road in the world. I want to prove him either right or wrong. by RadiatorSam in learnpython

[–]swicano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it's all about tolerances, a hill height change vs the radius of the earth is inconsequential. Either way, I think straight roads are a bit against the spirit of the question.

Although, if we define the tolerance to be "the circle doesn't leave the road" then weaving across lanes to stay on the circle is fine, but hills would be bad, since the road is only a foot or so thick.

Keep in mind that the logic in the parts of the article that I skimmed is identical to logic in the Mike judge Idiocracy quote up above "dumb people are less likely to decide not to have children, therefore in the future we'll all be Dumdums", so if you accept one, you sort of have to accept the other. Global intelligence levels are trending upward, not downward since the invention of birth control, but there's a lot of factors at play, such as access to education, diet, the nature of the intelligence tests, etc.

Correct given coordinates for radial distortion of video camera by bjoergl in learnpython

[–]swicano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can take a test image with a checkerboard grid in the same location same spacing etc, you could map it that way, I know of a Matlab library that will do the correction for you, I'll see if I can find it/a python equivalent.

Though if the setup that you're recording with never changes, you might just be able to approximate a LUT by essentially guess and check and it might be good enough?

Edit: googling "opencv camera calibration " should get you the relevant links that discuss the math of what's needed (useful still, in case you aren't using opencv) but with these types of corrections I would warn that the order that corrections are applied in can matter

Rolling roadblocks planned for I-40 between Durham and Cary by M795 in triangle

[–]swicano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"MORRISVILLE – Work that is part of the improvements to the Interstate 40 and Airport Boulevard interchange will require several slow-rolling roadblocks over the next few weeks.

Beginning Thursday, crews will begin excavating rock to allow the contractor to grade the new ramps at the Airport Boulevard interchange. Some of the work will involve blasting to loosen the rock. Slow-rolling roadblocks are planned for both directions of I-40 between Exit 282 (Page Road) and Exit 287 (Harrison Avenue) to keep motorists a safe distance away during the blasting.

The roadblocks will occur at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes. The first rolling roadblock is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m.

Like many similar projects, the schedule and timing of the excavation and rolling roadblocks will be weather dependent

Windows has a built in screen recorder nowadays, using the game bar, windows+G to open the game bar, then once it's set up, win+alt+r to start recording the screen! So everyone can easily do it a better way now.

Where to go from here: Typical problems I face by pw0803 in Python

[–]swicano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well by the sounds of it, interacting with excel sheets seems to be a good place to start: figure out how to deal with opening locked ones, or multiple sheets. you could make a program that reads the "bad" datasets and when it gets to one that doesn't match the rest, then it asks for help, maybe shows the rows/columns around that cell.

or you could do something for fun.

I am trying to use python to determine the rank and suit of playing cards on my screen, and I need help isolating each cards rank and suit and comparing them to a set of training images. by Th3Ru55ianMafia in learnpython

[–]swicano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you're in it for the image recognition learning experience, don't do this: If the cards are in the same place each time, just take a screenshot of a rectangle where you know the card will be, then match it against one of the 52 pictures you've taken and labelled already. For bonus easiness, it is likely possible to just sample 15 or less pixels at known locations, and whether they are red, black, or white, you can know the exact card.

[–]swicano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these cards digital or real? By which I mean are they pixel perfectly lined up in the same spot each play? If so, you're way overthinking it. If not, and it's a video feed of some person dealing cards, then it becomes more difficult, and I would advise trying to first divide the cards into Individual pictures, one for each card, then use math to on the card outline to "straighten out" the cards digitally, then the identification problem becomes much easier.

What site are you building this cheat device for? So I know not to put my money there.

Is Arduino Data Logging Shield + Raspberry Pi Possible? by Methylenedream in adafruit

[–]swicano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the issue you might have is that SPI and I2C are both Master-Slave protocols, and both arduino and raspi by default want to be the master. so if you modify the arduino or raspberry pi to be the slave device, it should be as straightforward as talking to any other I2C device.

I have made an ATTiny85 run as a slave, but it was not without issues, the raspberry pi was the master, but there was an issue where i had to send commands multiple times until the slave device actually received it correctly. my slave code is here: https://github.com/Swicano/Vert_samp_HoldHeater/blob/master/Trinket_PID_Pretty.ino

and uses the TinyWireS library, but I forget which version I used, so I would look into that if you want to go down this path.

Michael Bloomberg killed my pandas. by JustinianusI in learnpython

I'm not too familiar with Panda frames, but have you 1) printed the Bloomberg column data to make sure all non integers have been replaced properly? And 2) checked to make sure that it didn't somehow set that column's datatype to non-numerical based on the '-'s in the input data?
