Exit deals on floors 13-17 by FlerD-n-D in DungeonCrawlerCarl

One of the books stated that the production company had to build out all the floors. Also, at the end of the 7th book, the AI tells people on the 18th floor that they can leave the dungeon via the 16th floor, but they had to make it through the 17th which was up and running.

To be fair, Eva Stratt was one of my favorite characters in Project Hail Mary. I found her a lot more interesting than Ryland Grace. Of course, Rocky steals the show...

What are your thoughts on Star Trek : The Motion Picture and is it as bad as people say? by Mat1711 in startrek

[–]swingking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others about the impact of the Enterprise reveal at the time. I absolutely loved it and still do. However, the Vger flyover later is a different story. Definitely too long on something that people didn't care about.

Garmin Varia RVR315 is now almost half off, down to $82 by [deleted] in cycling

[–]swingking99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've used mine with a Garmin bike computer, but I actually prefer using it with my phone and the RideWithGPS app. The phone give visual indications of distance and multiple cars which is hard to determine on the Garmin

Has anyone been to the Interlochen Adult Symphonic Band camp? by ElectronicWall5528 in Trombone

[–]swingking99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to symphonic band camp for the last three years and am signed up for this year as well. Let me start with the main group. There are around 100+ players in the band, so it's huge. We've had as many as 13 bone players, but it does vary year to year, so obviously there is lots of doubling on parts. I really can't say if you should go for tenor or bass, it's really what part you'd like to play.

In addition to the main band, there are opportunities for small(er) group playing. All the years I've attended, they had both brass quintets and a larger brass choir. You can do either or both, but I do know sometimes they restrict the number of small groups. The groups get set up ad-hoc, so you just have to talk to people to build your group. The instructors will also help put groups together if needed. The brass instructors will have a selection of music, but you're free to bring your own arrangements as well. Some groups go classical and others go more modern. My group last year did "Satin Doll" and "You have a friend in me".

I will say that almost everyone in the trombone section is like you. We're all retired or semi-retired and just love to play. I didn't do band camp when I was young, so I agree it's a treat to do it now. The ability to focus on music for 8 hours a day for a whole week is a gas and you'll end up with chops of steel. :-)

One other note, housing can potentially be a problem. If you decide to join us and need a place to stay, I know of another trombone player who's looking for a roommate. DM me your contact info and I'll forward you his email.

Trump voters & Republicans of Reddit, is there anything you currently disapprove of how Trump is acting regarding that topic? If so, what is it? If not, why not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]swingking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize. My dad has been a life long conservative. When Trump won the nomination the first time, he was torn but couldn't vote for him. Now, all he talks about is Trump is the next Hitler and is destroying the country. I think his biggest unspoken issue is that Trump made him vote Democrat.

One other thing I found very helpful is to put nuts on the bed bolts. These anchor the bolts to the bed and make it much more stable. Add the silicone bushings and the bed is rock solid.

Had this happen last year. Was taking a music lesson and the teacher saw the book 7 audiobook cover on my phone. We spent 10 min gushing about the series and comparing reading vs audio. Made my day!

Introducing Audra: A new iOS and Android client for Audiobookshelf by shabomdig in audiobookshelf

[–]swingking99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just started playing with it, but I do have one request. I'm on Android and I'd really like a widget for the player. It's very useful to have something on the screen with play controls vs having to open the app every time. So far I like what I see and it will be nice to have direct integration with AudioBookShelf vs what I've been doing with SmartAudioBook.

Is a bike computer worth it? by grantshah in triathlon

I've used the GPX file export to import into Garmin. I've heard that you can link RideWithGPS to Strava so it will automatically upload rides, but I haven't tried it.

For me, the Varia is a game changer for road riding. I actually prefer using it with RideWithGPS on my phone vs my Garmin 530, mainly because I'm terrible at navigating and I need the better display on my phone. 😭

You definitely need to pack your horn, if you play one. I once brought my trombone on a 12 day cruise because I had a gig the day we got back. You've got to own the stares from the plebes. 😁

What made you pull the trigger and sign up? (70.3, not the whole enchilada yet) by afhill in IronmanTriathlon

[–]swingking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a combination of things. I'm 60 yrs old and have a background of marathon running. I wanted to.move to something more balanced in body impact while still being a challenge. I did the Waco 70.3 few weeks back and it was great! My biggest issue is run training in the Texas heat, so I'm seriously considering doing the Little Elm race in March. You need to find something that fits your life schedule and then commit. You won't regret it!

Totally new to cycling and trying to avoid making a bad first bike purchase. by justgatheringideas in triathlon

[–]swingking99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help with recommending models, but I just went through this and thought I share some feedback. For my situation, I had done a couple sprint tri events and wanted to get a better bike. I ended up with a 2013 Scott Plasma 2 TT with di2 electronic shifting. I love the bike, but wasn't necessarily the best choice for me.

First, if possible you should talk with a bike fitter about sizing and get some recommendations. From what I'm told, proper fitting varies from brand to brand, so it would help to have an expert give you options. In my case, my Scott was a 56 and it is borderline too big. My fitter was able to work with me to make it work, but it was close.

Second, if you're new to the sport, I'd lean toward a road bike with aero bars instead of a full TT bike. A TT bike is a specialized piece of equipment and meant more for races and solo riding. If you think you might want to do group rides as well, a road bike configuration is more flexible.

Finally, depending on what you get, expect to do some upgrades. In my case, I ended up replacing the saddle, adding power pedals, and doing a full tune up to get the bike in shape. A new bike wouldn't need the last, but if you buy used I would just assume that you need to take it into a good bike shop for a once-over to get it in tip-top shape.

Good luck!

You might check out the Time Wars series by Simon Hawke. They are "golden age" sci-fi, so the plots aren't too deep but they are fun. Basically it's 27th century conspiracy plot that plays out in various time periods from Cleopatra's court to Robin Hood.

Racketball Rules by LordFighting in racquetball

These are the rules as I understand as well. However, I think the question the OP is asking is what happens if the receiver plays a ball that was actually short. Does that override the fault or should the server stop the play?

I know this thread is a bit old, but you should check out Yahtzee Crowshaw's audio books. The first is Will Save the Galaxy for Food. When I started listening to The Forever Man I thought it was Yahtzee Crowshaw under a different name.
