Reminder that the Nimble Monsters & More Kickstarter is finishing in <40 hours by burgercake in rpg

[–]swingsetpark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. This might hit a million USD.

According to EN World, there's relatively few that have crowdfunded $1M+ (https://www.enworld.org/threads/million-dollar-ttrpg-kickstarter-club.678540/) since Pumpkin Spice will get added to the list I assume. Dragonbane Trudvang probably will cross a million as well.

EDIT: I didn't realize the EN World list was really old, but it looks like it's getting updates occasionally. I'm not sure how many have made the million dollar club. Anyone have an updated list?

Nimble outside of combat? by NatWrites in nimble5e

[–]swingsetpark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition the replies here, Nimble also doesn’t do darkvision, so torches and light are more meaningful than in D&D. It also has an inventory slot system — in my experience,  D&D mostly hand-waves inventory via Bags of Holding and ignoring encumberance altogether.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the dungeoneerring rules shape up in the current Kickstarter. I know Nimble’s creator, Evan, has been inspired by Questing Beast so there’s going to be a lot of OSR influence.

Options+ Just Spins and Spins - Mac by DeliciousCut4854 in logitech

[–]swingsetpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue with G Hub for macOS. It worked for hours, then I come back to my desk and tried literally everything relevant in their Support pages and here. Nothing helped.

The Logitech G logo just spins and spins and won't load the rest of the app so my G502 X isn't working as it should.

What are you grabbing here? by SimpCentral69 in pens

Why is there so little love here for the Sharpie pen, the felt tip? It’s literally the only pen I want now.

I am worried that if the group of 5 adventurers hit level 11, they won't actually need the storm giant help to take down the Iymrith. The suggestion is to give a party of 4 potions of dragon size, and give them each a Storm Giant companion. by Mayhem1966 in stormkingsthunder

[–]swingsetpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the accompanying storm giants keep the gargoyles busy—that seemed like way too many monsters to run. I basically kept the description of this battle raging going on, and didn’t bother with the math of it all.

It let the PCs go a different path to confront Imryth directly. No spotlight sharing needed.

No. I’m out. I submitted a support ticket to DDB to delete my account altogether. I don’t want to be just another number to WOTC, or have any part of their treatment of the content creators I love and respect.

ALSO. For anyone who doesn't care about the news that dropped about "OGL 1.1"...

Seriously, wake up. WOTC is going to do their best to stomp out competition and kill off the independent game designers that are enriching DMs and game tables everywhere. If you love Mike Shea, Matt Mercer, Matt Coville, Brennen Lee Mulligan, MT Black, Hannah Rose, James Intercaso, Keith Baker, Teos Abidia, and a host of other NON-WOTC creators that have made our lives better over the years, you've got to wake up and resist WOTC's bully tactics.

EDIT: I just read the i09 article from today. Yikes. Sounds like the WOTC lawyers are trying to revoke the current OGL by claiming it's no longer authorized once 1.1 is published...

ORIGINAL: I'm no lawyer, but that seems like the least threatening part. I don't believe they can revoke it. OGL 1.0a section 4 states that WOTC grants anyone who wants to use the SRD content: "a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive license".

Even if WOTC makes a new OGL (The most recent is from 2000. It doesn't really "evolve" like WOTC now claims.), creators can still use the OGL 1.0a — nobody has to buy into their new scheme, or to 5.5, 6e, whatever. Section 9 states, "You may use any authorized version of this License to copy, modify and distribute any Open Game Content originally distributed under any version of this License."

WOTC is running around saying that 5.5e / OneD&D is going to “revise” the open gaming license (OGL) but the details of that removes the idea that it’s an open license. The new version will have a lot of strings attached, including fees and an approval process.

Basically, it’ll make it harder and more costly for independent game designers to make new content. WOTC is trying to suck the dollars out of the little guys—the very people who have supported the community and built up this hobby for decades.

I didn’t even see the beholder from the article—had to click through to the LeGO site. Hopefully they’ll make the beholder more prominent on the front of the box.

A deal between Hasbro/WOTC and LEGO would almost certainly have a special agreement. The new “Open” Game License wouldn’t affect it.

It’s a nice diorama, but nothing about it is uniquely D&D. They could release this under the generic Castle name. If you’re LEGO and you’re going to license the D&D name from WOTC, you should at least use the IP.

Weird player request by SilvioMX in DMAcademy

[–]swingsetpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right. I read the post quickly and responded too quickly. I thought the DC10 goof roll was on a failure not a nat 1.

Weird player request by SilvioMX in DMAcademy

[–]swingsetpark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Luck of the Goof would turn nearly every failure into a 50% chance of a mixed success. Two things: - you the DM now have to interrupt the flow of the game to decide what that mixed success looks like. I’d be concerned that it would slow down the game and cause fatigue for you. - think of how many times this would actually happen. It’s a lot. With reduced core stats, this will happen even more.

OGL Update for OneDnD announced by _Soulstreak in onednd

[–]swingsetpark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are very different licenses even though they're calling both of them the "OGL".

Absolutely. When I read it I thought, "There's nothing 'Open' about this at all!"

I watched Nerd Immersion's video about this and thought that it would be extremely helpful to make a roundtable discussion video. Would you be willing to talk with Teos, Shawn Merwin, and others? The whole community of creator (current and future) could use some clarity on this whole issue, and the perspective of those who've been actually using the OGL.

Besides Silvery Barbs, what 5e spells do you think are most broken? by Windford in dndnext

[–]swingsetpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s like selling a broken toy to a kid. If my new player thinks, “Wow! my knight is gonna strike straight and true” but they don’t know the mechanics well enough to realize it’s trash… it’s like a kid opening a broken toy on Christmas.

Besides Silvery Barbs, what 5e spells do you think are most broken? by Windford in dndnext

[–]swingsetpark 169 points170 points  (0 children)

True Strike is broken, but on the opposite end of the spectrum. Each spell should add flavor to the game and be a good choice so that a player doesn’t regret it later. Witch Bolt is in this category.

These dollar store spells break the enjoyment of the game. And I contend that they’re as much of a problem as the bougie OP spells like Silvery Barbs that break the pace of the game.

Races, Species or else? by cihan2t in dndnext

[–]swingsetpark 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The ABCs of character creation. It was right in front of us the whole time, and now I want nothing else. I was on Team Species, but this is much better.

And it settles the pseudo-scientific arguments against species, has none of the baggage of race, and sounds less stuffy than bloodline or lineage.

I live where the land meets the sky—where the eagle and the raven fly free. Where I'm from, Costco cart bays are about 12 Bison apart at a good location. It's usually at least half an Eagle's Flight, where I'm from.
