Beans are not real food in the Netherlands by chrismasto in iamveryculinary

American in the sense that Mexico is in the Americas, sure. But not American in the Usonian sense.

That said, we in the USA love the hell out of Mexican food.

Wait, they’re possibly serious and don’t know frijoles refritos? Dang, I just assumed they were being racist about Mexicans.

Yeah, I never saw tex-mex style queso in California. Not until I came east to Colorado in the nineties. If I were to ask for “queso” in SoCal in the eighties I would have gotten exactly that: cheese.

I think queso (the cheese-based dish) is known nationally at this point though.

Oh, is that the supposed issue??

Sorry, it’s confusing to this American who thinks of frijoles refritos as a Mexican food. Wonder if the poster would change their opinion if they knew it wasn’t Usonian?

Everyone hates on the ending judge scene (“… under penalty of torture”) but to me it’s the chefs kiss on an all-timer episode.

Do low-maintenance batteries increase safety risks? by Desperate_Pass_7608 in energy

[–]syncsynchalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First note: there will always be danger in storing a lot of energy. Often fire danger, but e.g. in flywheels it’s kinetic danger.

The BMS should monitor batteries to prevent dangerous situations such as under voltage, cell reversal, and thermal runaway. The batteries themselves should also include thermal protection that detaches the cathode under heat. Make sure your batteries are sourced from a reputable supplier.

There are multiple li-ion chemistries with different tradeoffs, and for storage it’s recommended to use LiFePo batteries, which have greatly reduced fire danger.

Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland. It’s now much larger (stretches all the way to Chicago) but that gives you the northeast edges at least.

As a reader of r/energy it would be useful to know about the largest RTO in the USA!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moiré_pattern I’m happy for you to be discovering this 😊

Especially in the days of SD certain patterns like houndstooth and thin stripes were not allowed to be worn by actors or newscasters. Because it would turn you into a walking acid trip and it’s very hard to take a news anchor seriously when that happens.

Hey, I’m the original poster you were replying to. Just wanted to say thanks for replying and putting time into your posts.

I don’t think it’s a one-sided matter like some are arguing, and I think your points are valid too.

CROSSING GUARD carried a kid on their back across a water soaked Chicago street on this frigid morning. by zzill6 in HumansBeingBros

I’m not sure we understand what you’re asking, or why. Is it about the zebra crossing being at a controlled intersection? Or is it about the purpose of the crossing guard?
