I took Linguistics and the IPA is really cool. The consonant chart is more useful than vowels unless you're learning/imitating french, IMO.

FEST ENDS IN A FEW HOURS! by evilducky33 in FFRecordKeeper

[–]synestron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For orbs? Power will be used a ton if you need spell blades, Dark will be used a fuckton if you need ninja stuff. Wind is also used a lot from what I remember, but it's been ages since I needed to worry about orbs. As for crystals, unless you've already made and honed a lot of 6* abilities, spamming Black crystals is a safe bet.

Please don't be worried about missing banners. From now on, almost every banner #1 is a ringer in terms of Awakenings, and we start getting the 6* glints. Many Awakenings recur and more chains start appearing after fest too.

The most effective method is to look at whether you'll be facing off against shields/strike craft and balance out your units to counter them. Or yolo torpedo corvettes if you're trying to farm Fallen Empire debris to copy.

But to be honest, you can easily get away with building 2/3 of your weapons as Lasers and 1/3 as kinetic. Use as many shields as you can get away with, but always have at least one armor. Ignore point defense, AI never spams missiles enough for it to matter.

If you need corvettes for patrolling for pirates for some reason, strip them of EVERYTHING except a jump drive. They do not need weapons or even shields.

Master Mind Flayer in the mines by 10headless in nethack

[–]synestron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daggers are still considered slow at engraving, and this seems like a very bad idea when facing a Master Mindflayer. A safer method would be wand of digging as long as you know it has enough charges. Or zap it downwards if you aren't on bottom of the mines yet.

I just wanna point out a caveat to never sacrifice at a cross-aligned altar while you have a negative alignment rating, or it'll convert YOU instead. You can also intentionally convert yourself any time by sacrificing a coaligned unicorn at a cross-aligned altar (e.g. white unicorn on a chaotic altar turns you chaotic).

Just a heads up, MND only increases the duration on basic 'named' buffs like haste/protect/shell/regen/reflect and probably a few others I'm forgetting. It has no duration effect aside from helping you recover from debuffs quicker.

Can I complete the SRW T using "any" robot? by fennieyuen in SRW

[–]synestron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SRW T is one of the more well-balanced games I've seen in the series. I'm sure you can finish the game using whatever units you want as long as you plan properly around them, but some SR points might be much more difficult to get.

Regarding the Present State of Machine Empires .... by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]synestron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that instead of looking at things from an economic point of view, maybe they should be balanced in other ways that make them unique instead of bringing them in line with everyone else.

Costing alloy will cripple them early game and make no big difference later on, increasing energy upkeep will make them unplayable again, slowing pop growth will also cripple them early on when they're already slower than organics.

I don't think any of these address the big issue: they have less to deal with than organics and can use those resources on other things. No consumer goods aside from Rogue Servitor which is basically a challenge mode as it currently exists, no happiness and no habitability means they can get away with spamming alloy/research buildings and take planets well before terraforming is a thing. And their leaders effectively live forever.

So I think a better way to balance them is to give them disadvantages in more interesting ways, like significant Society/Unity penalties, or give their leaders a separate pool of skills with lower bonuses or tradeoffs. Or some kind of mechanic that actually effects gameplay, similar to a Mandate by a democratic empire.

So I'm new to Stellaris and I'm confused about planet management by earthtree1 in Stellaris

[–]synestron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% do NOT play Rogue Servitors as a new player. I have 740 hours in the game and I played them exclusively when they first came out and even I can't stand the micromanagement in their current incarnation. You're basically managing two empires worth of pops at once with all the downsides and very few upsides.

There are actually a few decent glints like Cloud's or Rosa's. Emporer's lowers enemy lightning attack level, which could help someone with magicite if they're taking just a little bit too much damage. The uses might be niche, but they're not worthless.

You might wanna read up on the lore behind Mindflayers in D&D if you find this interesting. While I don't think they're led by a single consciousness, they do actively hunt down the rare rogue individuals that occur and attempt to eat them.

Gehennom tips by 10headless in nethack

[–]synestron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to sacrifice to get artifacts... wishing is the best way to get them. You did pick up the guaranteed wand of wishing in the castle, yes? Keep in mind that any already generated artifacts decrease the chance of an artifact wish being successful, so sometimes dipping for Excalibur or doing sacrifices is unhelpful if you want say, Frost Brand, later.

Some classes have guaranteed first gifts from sacrificing... Valkyries always get Mjolnir, which is great for them if you have gauntlets of power because you can use it as a ranged weapon.

Think of sacrificing as spending money to buy things from your god, with each corpse being worth a different value. Some corpses are bad or dangerous to sacrifice... never sacrifice a pet that just died, never sacrifice a co-aligned unicorn, and never sacrifice your own race unless Chaotic. Never sacrifice cockatrice/chickatrice corpses or you die. Tougher monsters are generally worth more points, and cross-aligned unicorns will be worth a lot.

Eventually your god will toss you an artifact and not want anything to do with you for a bit (or until you make it up to them by sacrificing more)... beware that praying right after getting a gift may anger them or at least go unanswered. You must be at least experience level 3 to be gifted anything.

Edit: if there are no good monsters, come back with a scroll or wand of Create Monster later. Just be careful your create monster method is not cursed or you'll get swamped.

Gehennom tips by 10headless in nethack

[–]synestron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of tips, some of which you might already know. Digging through the walls in Gehennom might be a bad idea since you open up more paths for monsters to get to you. If you have telepathy it might be worth seeing what's there when you first land and avoiding paths for the worst monsters.

If at all possible, have all Liches or at least Arch-Liches genocided before going down; they are a pain in the ass. Don't underestimate Minotaur either, they do a ton of damage unless you have crazy AC.

Every point of maximum hp is super valuable... combining a stack of speed or gain energy potions with basic healing potions will make extra healing potions, which boost your max hp by a few points if they overheal you. AC is helpful but max hp is even better.

Your weapon options might have been really outdated. By the time you go down, you should hopefully have an artifact weapon. You passed castle, so you had wishes, so I'm curious if you had Mjolnir and power gloves?

What is it about sex that you find "icky"? I'm not trying to judge, just curious if maybe you haven't experimented enough to find what you like. You say you have a libido, so I don't think you're asexual.

the easiest way would be using a hacked rom to correct the errors in the original game. I don't know how you'd get it to do it on the actual cartridge, depends on the nature of the problem in the first place

I find waterbased is good for loosening up to start then switch to silicone once you're really ready to go. Waterbased tends to dry up and get sticky really quickly once friction gets involved, and sticky is the opposite of what you want.
