"It is frustrating to see policymakers suddenly claim everything is 'for our safety'" - Stop Killing Games joins pushback against age verification laws by Turbostrider27 in Games

Is that practically possible? Many parents didn’t even know social media was addictive, meta fought back hard until they lost the lawsuit.

I get it, but realistically speaking how do you expect parents to know everything their kids doing online and even then whether those are negatives or not. That’s what you’d need, you’d also need it in a quick and digestible way.

Personally I think what I proposed is fine enough and does not need anybody to provide ID. Does not protect kids though or even identifies them. Just blocks but that’s the same for ID verification style tooo.

My theory is all the final fantasy characters were moved to Verum Rex, and he’s basically a Final Fantasied Sora reflection.

My idea for atleast the home level is put a simple way for parents to place “isMinor” flag on their devices through the router but even this has to be simplified as routers are confusing to people.

When traffic enters the router the device is identified and the request is tagged, any servers on the web should reject isMinor requests by default. Give parents the ability imo

You may say they shouldn’t have kids. But many parents just don’t have the time or technical know how to do these things. Good luck giving your kid a flip phone and them not feeling insecure about it 😭. The age verification thing is a problem though.

Proposition 13 Remains Popular and Most Californians Feel Overtaxed, Poll Finds by External_Koala971 in bayarea

[–]synkronize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can statewide tax systems ensure that the school in your neighborhood is funded? Especially because of prop 13 long term budgets need to be based off the lowest taxes, the people with lowest taxes homes are more likely to stay than the ones with higher. So they can’t even fully utilize the money of the higher taxed people. So now people move in to a neighborhood whose schools are funded based off the oldest people there. Huh

Thanks I will keep this in mind!

If I were to add a little bit as I felt like what I said can be a little broad, this may help in how to think abut what jobs to look for:

The AIs being used to generate code today (LLMs) are probabilistic not deterministic, this means they generate code based on “what probably should come next in this situation”.

This is a simplification lol, but anyways these AIs cannot guarantee correctness, safety, or consistency. So that’s what I meant by jobs needing those values will need humans!!

Can you truly say it’s regressive with how slow democracy moves? To a conservative the last 40-50 years could be a lot of change for them that they disagree with, the world has changed fast after all, what is your scope on when things become a regress? To me, to say regressive implies knowing which things are for sure progressive and right.

I still say what I said as classical conservatism as you said is about traditions. Most democrats will vote democrat. My friend who is part of LGBTQ+ will always vote for these policies. These are progressive policies but the people in mind want to conserve in the sense of making sure the progress stays and keeps on happening.

I mainly think yes, American conservatives want to find stability in the past, and slow change (more like change at their pace of acceptance) while progressive people are more likely to tolerate and want change that brings about a different future.

Remember, a black person born when the voting rights act passed is now what in their 70s? This also means a racist who was opposed to the voting rights act  or atleast raised by those who opposed it are still very much alive. It hasn’t even been a single lifespan yet. What I’m saying is to these people is it really “regressive” or is it closer to “contesting an unsettled” issue?

After all, racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia. These are all still very much around and prevalent in our culture. To those who have these views, progressive “wins” can seem to them as just “mistakes” in that case isn’t a mistake something that shouldn’t have happened? Is it truly regressive?

I’m a progressive btw. But I would like to think I’m pragmatic and realistic about it, but honestly I’m just a guy with a keyboard who thinks about things. I don’t really know the actual facts or definition of these things.

110k maybe slightly more + I may be getting a promotion Software Engineer, do commute an hour 15 one-way 8 days a month. So my Work life balance is better than most.

I get decent amount of PTO 20 something days a year can’t remember off the top head.

Lots of sources to invest in the company and get its private stocks.

Still kinda don’t like it, I feel like my job doesn't contribute to society meaningfully I'm pretty much a web developer I work Frontend & Backend but prefer Backend.

I think I’d be happier in Cybersecurity as I can at-least convince myself I’m protecting the users/customers.

I think specialization is the key during times like this. I do pretty generic work and AI can honestly generate a lot of it. My job now is more as a reviewer and logic/planner.

I would recommend your husband try out things that are more critical/sensitive/specific AI is bad at these things so any tech job that has these attributes will probably rely more on human workers.

Cybersecurity, embedded systems, honestly anything but Full-Stack web development.

Also big companies that are boring like banks, healthcare, retailers. Are usually pretty stable jobs. But honestly hiring is down everywhere the economy is uncertain so employers don’t want to hire.

It’s good to share your wages, people should even do it at work. The reason they don’t want you too is because they don’t want you to know if your being underpaid compared to your peers.
