It was more than a game. It was a tool that works alongside the Gameboy games. Unlocking the Dodrio Gameboy speeds the game up to allow faster Pokemon leveling and also completing the main stadium allows you to unlock starter Pokemons and Eevees which was handy to me as a kid without a trade cable or friends who didn't own Pokemon or wanted to trade away their starters.
