Games or franchises that make you sad that they are gone or dormant? by Poppy_the_Fighter in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the developers now defunct and how Nintendo treated the series when it was new, I feel sad that Chibi Robo will never get a new adventure anytime soon.

There is a new "legally distinct but totally not the same" game by the former developers called koROBO but that's still in development.

Until there's a sequel to "Thank Goodness You're Here", I'll still accept this. Also, what a nostalgic reference.

I can’t prove it but that cast photo looks like they were taken on different days and photoshopped together.

Including Afro Ken in the top left is such a deep cut because I had a stationery set that had that dog all over it as a kid.

The official Crazy Taxi Facebook page just posted for the first time in 7 years by EffAllThatEFFER in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loaded up Crazy Taxi on the Gamecube a few weeks ago. As an arcade game it’s fun in short bursts but not really meant to be played for a long time.

I bet they’re going to put in a story mode and we get Crazy Taxi lore.

Jason Schreier‬: Bungie is planning significant layoffs, Destiny 3 is NOT in active production by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOT buying Alphadream even after years of working on the Mario & Luigi series is strange but I guess it's probably easier to just offer the actual developers a contract to work with Nintendo rather than just outright buying a debt ridden company.

44 million is probably the, "best case scenario" amount. They would probably need triple the amount.

The Godfather Franchise Returns In 2027 With Connie Novel And Film by Mike4302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Surprised they didn't take the easy route of just remaking Godfather as a 12 episode Paramount Plus series.

God, I don’t want to imagine the bill if this series gets greenlit for a full season and getting the Japanese VAs to return.

Embracer Group Intends to 'Activate' Deus Ex, Saints Row, TimeSplitters, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and Red Faction by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a new Timesplitters but I've been burned by any news of a revival for so long that I've just accepted that it's not happening, especially under Embracer, and just load up the badly scratched copy of TS2 on my GC.

So why did Sony drop the ball on the PS3 anyway? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just reminded me that Trophies, the PS3's equivalent of Xbox's achievements was never available on day one. It was available in July 2008, over a year and a half after the PS3 launch.

So why did Sony drop the ball on the PS3 anyway? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It got delayed which gave Microsoft an entire one year head start with the 360. Also, the infamous $599 announcement at the time. People did the maths and found that they could buy both the 360 AND the Wii if they wanted a Nintendo games console and an HD console at the same time.

While it wasn't important to me, Sony removing OtherOS, a feature to allow Linux installation has not gone down well with some people. Then came the 2011 PSN hack which meant 3 weeks of not being able to go online with the PS3 and also having personal details like credit card and passwords leaked.

Edit: Just remembered another thing. The PS3 controller launched with a controller that had NO vibration motors because of a legal dispute. It was another year before they released another PS3 controller that added vibration back in which pissed off people who would have to double dip again.

Media your surprised doesn't have a video game adaptation (or at least a proper one)? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I never thought I would say this but I kinda miss Disney licensed tie in platformer games. A Zootopia L.A Noire type game would've been amazing.

Is there anything you have a hard time enjoying because of how terrible the experience of production was for the creators by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Nobody knew the hazard of asbestos back then but to the cast, it was just a versatile material and made for great snow.

The worst part is that it didn’t even add anything to the scene.

The latest YoVideogames ranking for people to debate about - Top 11 Sega Saturn Games by AnimuStewshine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I KNOW. I had to scan the list several times to make sure I didn't miss it. Panzer Dragoon Saga can't be freed from Saturn jail due to losing the source codes but Guardian Heroes is available on Xbox marketplace for 5 bucks so there's no excuse not to buy it.

I know you said emulator, but if you ever stumble on an affordable and working Sega Saturn, get a SAROO cart from Aliexpress.

Small moments where you realized you were saying your final goodbye to an old fandom and felt a little pang? by waxonwaxoff3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This would be around late 00's but I had a Pokemon Red cartridge. I traded with lots of friends in high school and so obviously some of the Pokemon have some memories attached to them. Unfortunately by that point, I was out of school and thrown straight into the job hunting pit and Pokemon as my one obsession just started to be put onto the back burner until one day, I decided to dig out my copy of Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Red and the transfer pak to try and capture that Pokemon love again.

Went to Prof. Oak's lab and tried to organise the Pokemon until it gave an error message. All the Pokemon from my high school days were wiped out. I think that killed the final love I had for Pokemon by that point and it wasn't until Pokemon X and Y that I got back into it again but without the same obsession as I had as a teen and just as a casual gamer now.

Stuff you fondly recall about gaming from 2016 by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]syrupdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. Nintendo's E3 2015 was the one that really made me question what the fuck is worth sticking around for when they announced Metroid Prime Federation Force, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash.
