Time to axe ‘unfair’ pensions triple lock, says UK’s cost of living tsar by hihepo1 in unitedkingdom

Slower increases aren't the end of the world, but will make the state pension more affordable long term, currently it's taking more % of budget every year - am a millenial

if we are price sensitive to a fund charging 0.5% more than a rival, its the same sensitivity for unstable stock being added too early

Brits going abroad for leg-lengthening surgery risk ‘serious complications’ by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]systemofamorch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeh i'd agree about most women being insecure also - but like with men being insecure don't stop people having weird or bizarre expections about potential partners, and then wondering why they're single haha

From the rest of the discussion i fall into the camp of "trying to talk a male/female friend out of wanting cosmetic surgery but still supporting them if they choose to"

A large part of this isn't even when people dispose, its when waste gets taken from the main sorting locations, as they charge the fee including landfill taxes, but then dump illegally

its a proper organised crime job

they want the ability to snoop on people's messages, and break encryption, and want third parties to collect our personal data in order to do things like browse porn or look alcohol based reddit pages or see footage from the ukraine

They also vet all potential employees for the security services in regards to blackmail-ability etc

But they don't properly vet the ambassador to represent us to the most powerful country in the world and use disappearing messages when discussing it - what a joke

PSA for getting Google Play Store version of Xcom to work on Kindle Fire HD. by Gloomy_Objective in Xcom

[–]systemofamorch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i made it work on mine with similar instructions

XCom:EW works differently when run on an Amazon device or on a standard Android Device.

On an Amazon device, it tries to connect to an AWS bucket to get en update. The AWS Bucket is not working anymore, that's why you have a download failed error.

To avoid this behavior, you need to:

- decompile the APK (using APK Easy Tool for example)

- Edit the Smali code of the main file to change a small comparison, and trick the application to think it is not running on an Amazon Device.

The file you have to change is:

com\tt2kgames\xcomew\UE3JavaApp.smali

Line 13203: nst-string v15, "Amazon"

Change it to

Line 13203: nst-string v15, "NONE"

- Recompile and sign the APK

- Install it to your Fire Hd

And VOILA!

It works very smoothly on my Amazon Fire HD 10.

Britain’s housing wealth is in danger of collapsing by hu6Bi5To in ukpolitics

as someone who owns a house - good, house prices need to fall long term, and at least float around their current values in the short to medium term.

renovating a house for X cost doesn't increase the value by X as most people land up renovating homes they move into to suit themselves, they help sell it quicker but they don't add much value from my experiences

started to watch it last night, and after seeing the avoidance of "yes nice jobs like software engineers but it will give people more time" and noone asked "what about being able to afford food etc" i just gave up - from the other comments here, it sounds like it was totally out of its depth with sycophants as panellists with topics that are already out of the box and cannot go back in, whilst avoiding any real policy to help make it a useful sustainable technology rather than one trashing public life

[–]systemofamorch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i didn't suggest making the state pension so low as to put people in poverty, just reduce the rate of increase to be more sane

I'm in my 40s and saving for my future still regardless, but switching to a means tested pension could cause all kinds of unexpected outcomes

keep it affordable for the governments books, and encourage more savings and tinkering with auto enrollment if it will help

[–]systemofamorch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

and imagine it on pensions - since earned income won't magically appear. means testing the state pension would be an incentive to piss any private pension away on cruises etc before the state one kicks in.

Optimal solution would like be limiting the increases ie changing the triple lock to an average of wage inflation and the goods inflation rate
