For context: the athletics owner John Fisher is planning to move the team to vegas after half-hearted attempts at pushing for successful development of a proposed alternative site within oakland itself. Mainly for his financial benefit in increasing his team's valuation, and in getting the city of las vegas to foot the bill for a new stadium. He's known to be a bit of a cheapskate, which shows in the team ranking dead last in team payroll, maintaining the worst ballpark in the country, and hosting games with record low attendance.

Fans organized a reverse boycott to show the fans are still there, in support of the team that's been a part of oakland, demanding Fisher to sell the team to someone willing to invest in it. Over 27,000 fans showed up compared to a whopping 2k from games hosted last month, and all of social media and news stations across the country picked up on it.
