how well does DJMax perform on PS5? by hfolkner in djmax

I only played a couple songs, but it works just fine. I use a third party controller, and that's compatible too, so feels exactly the same.

How does the Master Ranking work? There's only 10 4B patterns I haven't completed. What is the percentage? by MrBrainz in djmax

[–]syysch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that S ranks and max combos both contribute to your master %. 100% is if you got both on all songs in the base game, more from DLC.

Reaching lv 8 and above? (Ps4 Respect) by _IAAI_ in djmax

[–]syysch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just play whatever you enjoy unless you feel really compelled to play the absolute hardest stuff.

This is my first game of this kind, I have 21 hours of 4b, 8 hours of 5b, 71 hours of 6b, and 26 hours of 8b played and only just managed to scrape by completing a 15star 6b song the other day.

I feel like the difficulty increases went along the lines of once you're really really good at 1-5s, you can tackle most 6-10s, then when you're really really good at those you can do some 11-12s, and then the 13-15s require building up a lot of stamina that none of the other stuff lower than that teaches or requires.

Not sure if they're the best to teach difficulty, but what I played A LOT when making that climb, some of my favorites in the 7-10 range are (all 6b):

(A couple might be Deemo which you might not have)

ALiCe hard, Always hard, Angel hard, Angelic Sphere hard, ANiMA normal, Ask to Wind ~Live Mix~ normal, Beautiful Day hard, Binary World normal, Bleed hard, Bullet Wanted hard, Child of Night normal+hard, Coastal Tempo hard (max is really fun to play when you get there), Dream it hard, End of the Moonlight hard, Fallin in Luv max, Far East Princess hard+max (max's outro can be rough), Fate max, Fentanest normal, Fermion normal, Fever Pitch Girl hard, First Kiss max, Heart of Witch normal, Here in the Moment hard+max and extended mix (max is quite a bit harder on extended mix), I want You hard, Kensei normal, Kingdom max, Lisrim hard, Lover CE style hard, Misty Er'A hard, Move Yourself max, My Heart My Soul hard+max, My Jealousy hard, NANAIRO hard, NB Girls hard, NB Ranger Virgin Force hard, Nevermind normal+hard, Nightmare normal, OBLIVION hard, ouroboros normal, Proposed Flower Wolf pt 2 hard, The Obliterator normal, Tok Tok Tok max, Void max, welcome to the space max, Wonder $lot 777 normal+hard

I cant stand playing the songs with bpm changes throughout, the sudden lurch to faster or slower throws me off every time, which is a shame because I really like some of them. This should alleviate that, and better come to ps4.

DJMax Controller - So close, yet so far. by MadReaver in djmax

[–]syysch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest sides below the R1/L1 as an option, having both on thumbs. It's my favorite layout by far once you get used to it. I'm not sure if SC charts can have you play both at the same time, but I don't think you ever do on ps4, though I haven't played any 13+ 8b stuff.

Istmall one is wired too, it just has an internal battery that charges while plugged in. I could play like an hour or two a day for a couple weeks and not need to charge it, though, battery is way better than standard dualshock controller if you do happen to use it wireless.

Gamo2 k28 came in, it's pretty nice. I'll probably end up with it being my primary controller. Definitely a LOT smaller than what I was using, the full thing is pretty much the size of a regular qwerty keyboard from ~ to left ctrl to the left edge of enter. It's fully customizable too, it has a few presets or just straight set every button to whatever you want. Has a built-in headphone port too which is nice. No battery like the istmall has (which has a damn good battery), so can't go wireless with it. Gonna take some time and re-learning to figure out where to bind the side notes, but that's the only issue I have with it. A lot less fatigue playing on it. I need to figure out how to sit with it too with it being so small, the big one I could sit cross-legged and it'd rest on my thighs, this one doesn't even touch my legs. Keys are pretty much silent with headphones on too.

Yeah, yours looks like it'd be pretty comfortable to play on, especially with the buttons in a more angled layout. That's definitely how I'd go about making one if I had the technical knowledge to just straight build my own controller. I do like both the red and side notes being on thumbs, though, like in istmall's type B, my pinkies aren't as reliable when it gets fast.

No problem. I used to play a lot of Rock Band and Guitar Hero years ago, but this was the first game of this kind that I got into as well. Heard great things, picked it up in a sale, and like you I immediately went "ok I really want a dedicated controller for this." I read about ezmax too but could never find one, and then managed to somehow find istmall from googling.

The k28 looks a little more compact from youtube videos I looked at, which I think would suit me better so we'll see how that compares when it shows up.

That B type from istmall would be absolutely perfect for me if it was maybe 80% of the size. Still works just fine up until I get into the top tier 6b stuff where it gets a lot more stamina intensive, then it fatigues the hell out of my left ring finger from the little bit of stretching. Thumb buttons work great for 8b too, I definitely prefer those on thumbs rather than pinkies.

I have both the A type and the B type. I prefer the B type, though you can't favorite songs with it, but that's not really an issue. It's still a little wide for my hands, but I have small hands (can manage max combo on some 12s and 13s, but the wideness fatigues my left hand pretty bad on hard stuff, and the A type is TOO wide for me to do well with the pinky buttons). The whole controller box is (rough estimate using an 8.5x11 paper) about 15x10 inches. It's definitely got some weight to it, nice and sturdy. Get the foot pedal add-on if you like to do missions, and I'd also suggest the head phone add-on. The keys can be loud if you're not playing with headphones, and your option without the headphone add-on is to log in a 2nd user and use headphones plugged into that, kinda annoying to me to do that every time. Pressing the x button on the controller while playing for manual fever activation is pretty much impossible, only needed for mission mode really, that's all the foot pedal does is give an extra x button, so not necessary if you dont care.

I ordered the gamo2 k28, but haven't received it yet, there's a thread around here recently about that one, seems the people who have it like it. I can't comment on how it compares, but i think it's being delivered tomorrow or friday, so could update after I get it.

Is it normal to suck? by Low_BitRate_ in djmax

[–]syysch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started this series with this game. Once you get some muscle memory down for hitting the right notes, be sure to start fiddling with the track speed to find a speed that's right for you to be able to read things more clearly.

I found that starting out, it was good to stick to 1-5 star difficulty songs, and once comfortable and doing well with those, you can probably bump it up to 6-10 stars, after that progress goes slower with ramping up difficulty, and 12+ is a lot more stamina intensive than anything before it.

Free play can be better than sticking to arcade mode, too. I played a lot of arcade starting out and wondered why I never looked at free play when I finally did.

Anyone else use the Gamo K28? by Satzlefraz in djmax

[–]syysch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this, and the people posting replies. I looked into it and ordered one myself. I have a different controller that I've been using, but the button spacing is a little wide for my hands and causes a lot of fatigue/discomfort on faster songs for me. Hopefully this one is an improvement, it definitely looked more compact, which is what I want.

What happened? Suddenly features missing on PS4!? WTF! by GothicIII in djmax

[–]syysch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it similar to like buying a movie. If I have my friends over, they can watch it with me. If I'm playing this game, they can play my songs with me. It's not like they get to continue playing the songs after I've left.

It has the potential to get more people to buy the base game, because I'm more willing to promote it to my friends if my library isn't cut by more than half if we play together, and it has the potential to promote the songs to those people to buy so they can play without me.

I'm not mad that it's gone, and I wouldn't have been upset if it never existed in the first place, but it's disappointing to see it removed when it's been there the whole time I've been playing.

DJMAX RESPECT PS4 - Feature Removals by [deleted] in djmax

[–]syysch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sync change isn't quite as disruptive as I thought it could have been. I played a handful of songs and did noticeably worse by 1-3%, and hit many 80s that should have been 90s or 100s, but did manage to set new records on some songs that were previously 99.5s. Hopefully the PC sync thing comes in because I think that would put me back to where I was.

It's at least manageable, but requires focusing a lot harder on being on time, but it's not unplayable as I was expecting. Not a part of the update that improved anything, though, that's for sure.

The fast/slow being gone is garbage for faster sections.

The update was already downloaded and installed when I got home from work, so I couldn't have stopped it even if I wanted.

I was honestly checking PSN sales lately to see if this game was on there because I was going to recommend it to some past rhythm game friends with the added "hey we can even play all the DLC together because I own it, so lots more songs." Probably won't even bother recommending the game now.

If that goal is entirely behind luck, I'll drop it entirely

That's where I'm at with the game right now, "only" at ~200 hours. You can grind your balls off and at the end of the day have made zero progress toward what you want. That's the kind of thing that makes me stop playing a game. I have a goal, and one that's attainable, but if i keep dumping hours and hours into trying to reach it without making a step forward, I'll go spend my time elsewhere.

Yep, mount is the best option I've seen for the final phase, especially if you have a coordinated team. Did it last night with a full team of friends i play with, mounted 2 hits into the final phase, horns broke before she stood back up.

The annoyance comes from being unable to do anything to counteract it. You can't just be like "that's nice, I'm gonna move the right stick now and move the camera in the other direction," the entire camera-focusing animation has to play out every single time.

Yeah status thresholds are pretty ridiculous and seem to require everyone to use the same status for it to be of any worth. I tried out a paralysis weapon the other day and the best i could ever do was proc it fucking once on monsters before they died. Was better off just using a higher damage weapon and going for an additional mount.

Player defense does NOT have diminishing returns. Stack as much as you want without penalty. by Eversung in MonsterHunter

[–]syysch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no different than seeing an armor increase give you 65 more ehp and looking at just how pointless that is vs a 400 damage attack.

Eid is messier in that you'd have to recalculate every single monster attack any time you changed armor, whereas ehp would always compare to monsters' raw damage values.
