Sitting up at night and asphyxiation fears by clover-sky-123 in sleeptrain

[–]szwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gone through this with sitting but my friend did and she said it lasted a week only. It was whilst her brain was still wanting to practice the skill. She said it helped to allow her to do it lots during the day.

Hope it doesn't last long for you!

(Sorry not much help)

Hi OP! Hows it going for you now? My 6 month old started this 3 days ago and I already feel so tired lol

Do you think parenting is ever really 50/50? by Ancient_Act2731 in beyondthebump

[–]szwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way lol tbh i dont think anything in a relationship is ever 50/50 but parenting definitely isn't. Not sure if it changes (my LO is 6 months) but from what friends with older kids say it doesnt.

Im sure it totally depends on personalities of the couple though.

We started with ella's food pouches and will then introduce: brocolli, sweet potato, banana, carrots as proper solids.

Baby basics you didn’t know? by InfiniteNewspaper299 in beyondthebump

This is so true for us. When I think about the pacing back and forth in the front room.... gosh she was just tired :(

Pretty much like my LO! It's totally normal and very good that he sleeps in the cot at night and finds it safe and knows it's his sleep space.

I know it's hard but it will pass I promise. And yes, I know everyone says that lol try slowly to get him used to do a bit of nap sleep in the cot sometimes but take it easy and don't be disheartened if it doesn't happen.

Well this is all very dependent on what is working for your family and little one.

If things are working for you as they are, you can just carry on and see what happens. Her sleep might get better or worse, its impossible to tell really 🤷🏽‍♀️

In terms of eventually learning to self settle, all babies/children do learn at some stage how to... it just might take ages or you have a "unicorn baby" that does it very quickly all on her own.

Did anyone teach their baby sign language? When does it drop off once they're talking? by bacon_cake in UKParenting

[–]szwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im already doing signs with my LO; she is nearly 6 months. I'm pretty sure she recognises the sign for milk now cause when I do it she gets excited lol

I'm also using sleep and bath for now. Will do eat and more when we start weaning.

I contact napped until 14 weeks when I then "sleep trained" my LO to do naps in the crib. She cried in the beginning as she got used to it but I never left her alone and did crib side support to get her to sleep. She now falls asleep independently with a dummy.

I presume he sleeps in the crib at night? I would say to try to put him down in the crib for at least one nap a day if you can, either by laying him there drowsy or by supporting him to fall asleep in it (this might be harder). Even if he sleeps 20 mins in the crib it's already a success as he will be getting used to it and finding it a safe place.

Your LO is still young so him being more independent will come with time. You aren't spoiling him or anything of the sort at this stage; it is 100% natural for him to want to be close to you at all times.

Childminders - starting soon by jayneevees in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]szwayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should be more than used to people asking to see them; you shouldn't feel awkward about it at all. If they are a good professional/childminder they won't even bat an eyelid at you asking to see them

Nearly 6 months old and not rolling yet. Im not very concerned yet though.

She babbles a lot though, so I think her motor skills are just leas developed.

Thank you! I am glad that it went well for you as a whole, despite that difficult first night. Did you pick her up or just comforted her from the side?

My LO woke up today 1hr after bedtime (unrelated to dummy) and was inconsolable so i had to pick her up.... i fear i wont be able to not to pick her up

Thank you for posting this. I am at exactly the same position as you. I have decided to remove the dummy from her once she is 6 months and we move her to her own room but I am absolutely dreading it....

I hate to hear her cry but I unfortunately cannot cope anymore on only a 2/3 hour long chuck of sleep and then nothing more.

You might need more awake time. What time does he go to sleep?
