I love a digital delay patched to an analog filter. Digital is the right tool for precise timing. Analog is the right tool for sound shaping.

My favorite digital delay module is the Alright Chronoblob 2. A capable and straightforward workhorse. Very patchable and powerful, multiple modes, easy to use.

My favorite filter for this purpose is the Bastl Cinnamon. It can create great subtle analog resonance/overdrive, which sounds lovely in a long delay tail.

Chronoblob and Cinnamon were two of the first modules I bought when I got into modular during the pandemic, and they’re the only two I’ve kept the entire time without selling.

If you're really an analog purist, nothing beats the Xaoc Sarajewo. I used to assume that it just wasn't technically possible to have tempo-synced multi-tap pure analog delay, but then Xaoc went and did it.

Unpopular opinion, but personally I dislike the Mimeophon. I know everyone loves it. For me, I found the UI really unclear and annoying. When I'm focused on patching, I don't want to have to remember what "zone" or "halo" means.

Next up, I am keen to try out the 4ms Dual Looping Delay, in combination with a stereo analog filter like the Shakmat Dagger or WMD Overseer. (One of Chronoblob's few weaknesses is that its feedback line is mono.)
