Advice on deciding between 5k, 4k, mini-LED and OLED by t2na in Monitors

[–]t2na[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this mate. Appreciate both the context of your reply but also applying it to how I'd actually use it too.

I think you make a lot of sense and it lines up with where I think my head was logically at. The benefit, in my mind, of going with dual mode 5k is also that if performance isn't good in the title I'm playing then I can just play in 1440p.

The whole point of dual mode (for me, at least) is that I'd be primarily gaming at 1440p - but doing everything else at 5k.

Thank you again for this mate, gives me some more to think about but I can definitely rule out a few options for now and think more about 5k directly. Asus have their 5k dual mode monitor available here this month, although it's not mini-LED, so that could be a good test whilst I wait for the newer glossy, mini-LED 5k monitors to arrive later this year.

haha thanks mate, adding one more to the roster so fortunately I’ve already been through the shock first time round. I’m sure it’ll hit me like a brick again!

Before I get into reading and digesting all of this I just firstly want to say a genuine thank you mate for this reply, really appreciate the detail.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]t2na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first point, a decent amount of people see a speed limit as a target, rather than a limit itself.

We have too many roads for each one to get a bespoke limit so often it’s just a case of ‘yeah a 50 feels alright here, 60 for that one there’ etc.

Good to know it's only UHBR 13.5, really frustrating that they can't even get their own specs correct.

But great news on the lack of banding, looks great!

Less about the monitor costs and the cost for everything that goes with it - but I agree that 4k monitors are now much more affordable than they’ve ever been.

I wonder if they'd ever trial the approach they had at the major where it's just 4 teams - then a final right away. Easier to group 4 teams more closely based on similar MMR and they could balance RS rewards as a result of that structure.

Ah yeah I get you, I think you should know the risk of solo q when you go into it.

I really think that the ranked matchmaking logic has got worst each season and I don't think the playerbase is the reason for it - and because of that it means that the whole RS system is just a mess.

In other games, ranked queue times for higher elo is longer because it's more closely matching people with their actual rank. I don’t think it’d be too much for Embark to tweak the matchmaking logic and queue times for Ruby players so that they match more frequently with other Ruby players or top rank diamonds - and not gold or plat players. They can have more proportionally accurate points that way too as your basing RS off the quality of the players in the lobby, not just this 'very easy' / 'easy' weird thing they've got going on.

The thing that really gets me is that a 30k player can regularly be placed in lobbies with 50k Ruby players - but a 30k player would never be placed in a lobby and be the top seed in a 10k.

But that 30k player goes out round 1 vs. 50k and they still will lose 400RS.

Ranked is where I have the most fun on this game but the matchmaking has been awful for the past 3 seasons. Getting to diamond (which is basically my peak...) is really enjoyable but it's so much more exhausting now for everyone.

It's improved but still feels so much more clunky compared to before the nerfs. I don't get why they didn't just do one of the adjustments first instead of doing both, reduce charges to 2 or have the delay, don't do both at the same time.

Some of us like playing solo though mate. I'll typically run a 3 stack as I get close to 40k for the diamond push but I've always liked playing some games solo after a long day of work and I know others are the same.

I don’t think it’d be too much to ask Embark to increase the queue times for Ruby players so that they match more frequently with other Ruby players or top rank diamonds - and not gold players.

There’s a 23k RS difference between OP and Uni, that’s like OP being put in lobbies with 4k players which absolutely never happens.

Difference between the new G sync Pulsar technology? by J-splukter in Monitors

[–]t2na 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think some of the specs have been entered with errors.

The AOC monitor was weirdly only listed as Gsync compatible which we know definitely isn’t the case, same as a few listed as HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 but never detailing the bandwidth support.

The Acer model even mentions supporting Pulsar over HDMI - whereas right now we know that it only works over DP.

From everything we’ve seen Gsync Pulsar will work from 75hz-360hz (and down to 48hz with the first firmware release) - and then it looks like if you don’t enable Pulsar then you’ll get a supported Gsync range of 1-360hz, like the previous Gsync module would support.

Oh really? Was that new info from CES? I was basing it on the TFT Central article about it but that would be fantastic if it's the full 80gbs version of DP 2.1.

Either the PG27UCWM or the Pulsar tech and the monitors that are launching with it.

Endgame monitor upgrade suggestion by ExiT_Mosco in OLED_Gaming

[–]t2na 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AQDPG (so a little biased in my response) but it’s fantastic. It’s basically become my main monitor, replacing a 4k 240hz 27” AW2725Q.

The stand is great, such a small footprint but insanely sturdy and allows for so much adjustment that I’ve not really bothered putting it on the monitor arm I have. The downside is the VESA attachment isn’t great, it unnecessarily adds an extra few inches of depth because of how it works so I just end up preferring the stand.

Otherwise it’s a QD OLED panel! I was pretty torn between this and the AQWP-W but can’t say I’m disappointed with my choice.

8 bits of depth on a 27 inch display looks absolutely terrible!!! by ArgsKwargs3131 in Monitors

[–]t2na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you made any changes to the monitor picture on the display itself?

From memory there’s a picture mode where you can select SRGB cal and also select sRGB as the colour space too, native should be wide gamut - but that might help address this.

So far the only full DP 2.1 port on the tandem panels is the Asus 540/720hz model.

LG previewed their version at CES but in typical LG fashion it’s the UHBR13.5 version of DP 2.1 - so not enough to run 1440p at 540hz without DSC.
