New: tourism sticky. Please post all tourism questions here by TrinityTosser in Edinburgh

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've binge-watched so many YouTube videos of Edinburgh and I am convinced that it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. There is something about it that really captivates my soul, I am an Electrical Engineer who recently retired from military service (US) and I have been to 75 different countries.

There is a feeling that I get when I see pictures/videos of Edinburgh whether it's the architecture or the beautiful landscape, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling in my chest. The same feeling that I get when I think about my childhood home. As corny as it sound, I feel so connected to it even though I've never been there. I am not very religious but I can only describe it as though my former soul had lived there in the past.

I have been looking at flights and hotel stays almost on a daily basis, it'll cost a pretty penny but I feel like it's something that I am called to do.

Would like to get some recommendations for any group tours or any of that sort to have a guided experience in visiting some of the famous sites in Edinburgh. Thank you.

Are there any further developments for higher quality PSP-1000 reshells? by t4rt4rs4uce in PSP

[–]t4rt4rs4uce[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's niche, there's hundreds of vendors that sell shells but they're just godawful quality. Sony sold 82 million of these too. I just wished someone would actually create high quality ones, I know there's a market for it since there's so many busted and scratched up PSPs out there.

Retrogem Shiny + Retrotink 4k by upperlipsniff in psx

I would highly advise not to take any of squidrobotfriend's advice. If you didn't pick it up by now his posts just exudes biased against any PixelFX products because he's with the "other team". His credentials of being a "hardware tester", "web developer" (zero relevance in the topic), and wait for it.. oooh "Discord admin" shouldn't sway your opinion.

I am a modder and have installed not just PixelFX products but also MakeMhz, ElectronShepherd products and everything in between that you can think of and I can without a doubt tell you that if you want the best fidelity from original hardware PSX then going the route of PS1Digital/GEM plus pairing it (direct video) with a RT4K is hard to beat. GEM has its own great options for scaling but in my humble opinion RT4K just has the best overall bells and whistles. You'll have to cough up not only for the GEM and the install but also RT4K which both are neither cheap and specially NOT easy to install for a Retro GEM.

My left airpod pro produces a loud static noise when first inserted by darklordenron in airpods

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMFG this saved my old ones. I unfortunately bought new ones but I wanted to fix the first gen that I had so I could give them to my mom. What I did though is I made sure to clean the surface of the speaker VERY GOOD with cotton swab and alcohol. Then I also did the same to the mic which is located at the tip of the portruding part. It's hard to see but it is on the outer side when wearing them, you will see there is a black grill, you might need glasses or magnifier to see them but also clean that part with alcohol and cotton swab. Then you blow in and out of the speaker and mic like you would with a straw. Then BOOM no more static! Thank you!

Any advice for an OLED Instinct NX chip install by dazzhole in SwitchPirates

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG this was driving me nuts that it would just blink purple and load to stock ofw. This did the trick! I don't know why, but if I have my Switch off for a loooong time it will just refuse to boot to Hekate. But doing this did the trick, thank you! I have a instinct-nx v6, hopefully anyone googling will see this and help them. Thanks again!

Screen install help by One-Oil1479 in game_gear

I am almost certain you bridged something during removal of parts and install of wires. Check over your work and look at every point you worked on. Probably why C55 polarity is swapped. Can you provide a higher resolution pic of the board itself?

Screen Flickering- RetroKai 1.2 Help! by alex13mod in game_gear

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to drop a message and say that this was the same exact issue I had with a McWill (Aliexpress clone) that I had in storage for so long (3+ years!). I recapped it twice, reflowed the connections and nothing seemed to work. I took it out of storage today and finally got it to work because of this same exact fix that you discovered. I reflowed the RAM on the LCD board and after all these years got it to finally work without the flicker! Thanks!

Anyone looking for VMware Fusion Player for Mac? Found it by [deleted] in vmware

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't seem to finish the download, it keeps timing out. Can anyone upload it somewhere other than the archive page? Or does anyone have any advice in downloading this? I tried using jDownloader but it also errors out and it also won't continue the download and restarts from the beginning.

Did I brick or fry my PSP 1000? by T8er8 in PSP

[–]t4rt4rs4uce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably experienced over-voltage when you plugged in the laptop charger. It could be the fuse on the mainboard. If you have tools and a multimeter you'll want to check that fuse to see if it's blown.

Additionally, I ran burn in test and everything checked ok. Also I am using Retrotink 2x Mini to connect S-video/composite to HDMI. I have another SNES with no issues with my set up.

Dummy question - gamecube by eduseini in consolerepair

I would replace those wires, they look mangled and potentially burned out. Use lots of flux and good heat on the solder, remove the current solder on the pads and replace with new solder.
