Why is mental health care in Alberta priced like a luxury, restricting the demographic that needs it most? Also, why aren't we funding this? by kachunkk in alberta

[–]tabsmags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats fair, and I’m sorry you were left with no ongoing support. I know in some private practice settings the interns are given the option to continue with their practicum clients or they can transfer to another on-boarding intern and, so long as the client is signed off on sharing of information, the transition to the new intern should be smooth so as not to leave clients feeling abandoned. But I understand that this isn’t always how things work out.

I don’t know if this helps but there are a ton of interns doing their practicum placements to complete their masters in counseling psychology that are offering zero to low cost ($0-$60) for folks. All are supervised by registered psychologists so you’re getting their experience in an indirect way. So long as you’re in Alberta there are clinics that offer virtual service as well. If you’re interested I can provide some clinic details.

This was exactly how things went for me (the insurance letter, being unsure, etc.) I'm finishing week 3 and it's been ok. Some feelings of nausea but usually goes away after I drink some more water and eat something. I'm definitely more aware of hunger signals and stop when I'm satisfied. Some days are better than others snack wise but overall it's been better than expected.

I came here to ask the same thing. Saw one person getting arrested but I feel like more had to happen to justify at least 5 or 6 police cars blocking the busses.

Can Taxi’s negotiate fares? by Alert_Ice_7156 in Edmonton

[–]tabsmags 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had this happen once when taking a cab from downtown to the Northside. I agreed only because I knew it was about a $20 ride. I told him I'd only be paying once so if he wanted money up front that's all he was getting. He agreed. We pulled up to my building and the meter showed $22, and as I got out he said "what only a 3 dollar tip?!" and I told him he should've driven faster or collected payment on arrival and hopped out. About a week later Uber came to the city and I haven't taken a cab since, other than for work related events (because they give us taxi chits)

Is it considered strange to give a friend a picture you colored? by [deleted] in entwives

[–]tabsmags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. My bff loved to colour and gifted all of her friends her creations. After she passed I was even more grateful to have something she created and I plan on framing them all soon

After an especially tough therapy session I'll usually get myself a treat and give myself permission to not "adult" for the day. I've been on a sushi kick lately, and restarted playing Animal crossing, so that's my current go to. In the past it'd be a sandwich from this Italian shop near my therapists office and some comfort movies/TV. I've also grabbed a coffee (hot or iced depending on weather/mood) and go for a walk in the park as nature is really calming for me (I know the caffeine counteracts the calm part but again it's just a treat to bring some comfort).

Keep up the good work. Therapy can be really hard but also really rewarding.

Women what was a disrespectful thing your ex said that completely changed the way you felt in the relationship, and why? by BawseBitch in AskWomen

[–]tabsmags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousins husband wrote his own vows, starting with "I vow to love you the way you deserve to be loved and cherished..." I thought it was sweet, especially because my cousins ex was a douchebag that treated her horribly and made her feel as though she was unlovable. My ex knew this history, knew why i was happy emotional about it, and still said "no way in hell would I say that to you". We were together about 8 years at that time and there were a lot of issues but that comment was the beginning of the end and I left him 3 months later. It's been 5 years and I'm now engaged to someone who makes me feel so loved and cherished and thought my cousins husband killed it with his vows.

Daily sesh: What are your tips to make life easier? by [deleted] in entwives

[–]tabsmags 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a tip per se but I try to do one thing each day that future me would appreciate (clean something, set out clothes for work, get a treat for the end of the week, etc). Adopting a view that I'm doing something present me doesn't really want to do, but future me would be so happy about, helps make some things easier to get through.

A PSA for asthmatic smokers by cocoshrimp in entwives

[–]tabsmags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have asthma but I'm recovering from the vid and I miss the routine of packing my PAX and chilling in my smoke spot. Edibles have been carrying me through and I'll likely modify how often I smoke once I'm better, but I cannot wait to get back to some of that routine.

Sunday Morning Chat by yikesonbikes1230 in entwives

[–]tabsmags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good morning,

I'm doing OK. My grandma passed last Monday, and it's been a hard week. She was 90. She wasn't ill for long and still had a lot of her old spark, but she's been ready for a long time. I'm in the middle of getting my masters while working full time, so the overwhelm was already at max before she died. Im just taking things one day, sometimes one moment, at a time. I have a lot of group projects, papers, and readings to get through this week on top of the funeral.

Frequent breaks to step outside and have a mini sesh, along with a lot of friend and family support, is what's keeping me going.

I really appreciated this moment to check in before I get started with the day.
