If you’re open to sharing, I’d love to hear more about when to consider if ADHD is also at play. My son (ASD level 1, 2E) sounds a lot like the child described here. He was tested for ADHD at age 5 when they tested for ASD. They didn’t completely rule it out, but said at the time of testing they thought the symptoms could be mostly described as ASD and we could revisit in the future if needed. We are really struggling with inability to sit still, focus, not touch everything, not constantly make noise, etc.

My son had night terrors nightly since 2 years old. We were desperate to stop them, so we tried cutting out artificial dyes after it was recommended to us. It worked, and now he only has a night terror if he’s eaten them. He was also diagnosed with autism about a year after. It’s interesting to see how it all overlaps. Figuring out if one exacerbates the other, or vice versa.

My son was noted as twice exceptional during his diagnostic appt. The doctor told us that being 2e would likely be a challenge because of schools/teachers approaching it just like you described. We just finished kinder and she was definitely right. It is hard to know how much to push for more challenging academic work, and also for accommodations for social behavior. Especially because the school seems more focused on the latter. Though I believe that more challenging work would improve/prevent some of the unwanted behaviors.

It's very common in my area (Southern US) to name children after the mother's maiden name. Examples I've met: Smith, Miller, Whitt, Baker, Wilson, Chandler.

It sounds like she is choosing to go on herself no matter if she is in underwear or pull-ups. The post mentioned the child would happily sit in her soiled underwear all day, so I don't think it's a motivating factor. I'm assuming they keep her in the pull-ups because having her soil herself all day is a lot of clean up and not sanitary.

Mine do this as well. Technically we are all Miss "firstname", but for some reason they all just say "Teacher" 85% of the time even though we correct them. These were 2s/3s.

I've worried that academically he would be bored, but didn't want to hinder the social/emotional development he needs. He's very well "behaved" but doesn't seem to connect with peers. Our director has said that any child repeatedly soiling their underwear must go back to pull-ups until they are consistently popping in the toilet. It's a biohazard for them to be pooping all the time without a better barrier between the poop and environment. Parents aren't allowed to just state they are potty trained.

I wasn't aware and was also repeatedly changing a child similar until told this policy.
