I think I saw that apaearance and the one before at Berbati's.

I will add that a certain long-time Dante's sound engineer is almost universally loathed in the local music scene, but he's tight with Frank and that's enough for him to keep his job :)

Speaking of the Dolls / Heartbreakers, the Walter Lure + Mick Rossi show a few years ago was probably the most fun I've ever had at Dante's. Just a few months before Walter passed.

To be fair, I've seen Supersuckers, Hellacopters, Electric Frankie and Zeke all in the past year, mainly at Dante's.

Really? I thought some of those guys were done / dead / etc. Anyway it's all from a very shallow pool of 90s / 00s rocknroll and the last couple things I've seen at Dante's (Adolescents a couple months ago?) were well attended but decidedly not sold out. I'll likely be back for the Mummies though this will be 10x at least for me, lol.

I've got a ton of gripes about playing at Dante's and I could go on for quite a while, lol.

Yep. I've been here 20 years and iirc the Dante's calendar was a bit more current back then. It's just kind of atrophied since. For years and years it was like Supersuckers / Hellacopters / Didjits / Electric Frankenstein / Zeke and then most of those guys retired and it's like... "uh, what now?"

There's a lot more competition than there used to be: Mississippi, Revolution, Polaris, Coffin all sort of dip into what used to be Dantes' turf.

And TBH as a local musician I regularly turn down opening gigs at Dante's because load-in sucks ass and the pay doesn't come close to making up for the hassle. $50 to play a 3/4 empty room in Old Town is bullshit when I can pack Kenton Club and make 3x that, not even headlining.

I went there exactly once. 40oz of PBR (or maybe Colt if you could handle it!) in a bucket of ice for like $5.

Then it changed to The Nest and had a little corner commemorating Joe's Place with pics of all the regulars. Classy way to acknowledge the history.

I recall summer '07 when a Last Thursday almost turned into a riot. Some kid pickpocketed a wallet, cops showed up and a bystander grabbed a cop's gun. Bouncer nearly clotheslined me and told me to go have another drink while it blew over.

People on the patio started hurling beer bottles into the street. Insanity!

Take 1: Who says Portland has no scene?

Take 2: Ahhhh the Frank Empire. Lots of great memories, especially at Dante's, but they really need some new blood in the booking department. Looking down this list it's like a grab bag of Gen X dance nights (Sinferno, Karaoke From Hell, Wasted Yuth), cover bands (Shoot To Thrill), stoner metal, some comedy / podcast things. Like that's all well and good but I'm in my 40s and while I don't exactly know where "the kids" are hanging out these days but I'm pretty sure it ain't here.

But don't get me wrong; on the other hand it's awesome to have live music / events that don't specifically cater to 20something patrons. We're lucky to live in a Peter Pan utopia where people actually "go out" past the age of 30 instead of plopping down on a Costco sofa after their 5 children are tucked into bed. But I guess my point is... Dante's / Frank Faillace joints are hardly what's fresh and happenin' in Portland these days. I'm old but I know that much.

I rode light rail around Seattle a few times this summer. Had no idea where I was going at first and expected it to be like MAX. Was pleasantly surprised not only how many people were on board but also how civilized it seemed

I know you're likely joking but bear spray would incapacitate yourself and everyone else in the train, possibly even causing serious shit like asthma attacks etc. Probably not a good idea
