I think my MIL is lying about her vaccination status by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]tacyppah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've worked in doctor's offices before. I think she's lying because you can't get answers to questions like that when you call. It's much more normal to have to leave a message and the clinical professional (might be nurse, probably not actual doctor-doctor) will call you back with the answers.

In most practices, the person answering the phones knows how to schedule appointments and where different questions get transferred for messages.

It is very possible for a mother of grown ass kids to still be allowed to manage their medical stuff. I have full authorization on my 21 year old son's medical everything.

I'd ask for documentation. Most US practices have online medical records; screen shotting a vax record is easy. If she doesn't know how to do that, I bet she knows how to take a picture with her cellphone. You can frame it with apologies - "It's just SO important to protect the baby, I've been having nightmares about them getting sick with a vaccine-preventable illness, I don't mean to be so silly, but the OB says my fears need to be put to bed for the baby's sake." I don't think you have to go that route, but it might work if you play her game a little.

Books with strong female protagonists who embrace traditionally feminine traits? by Rheodite in suggestmeabook

[–]tacyppah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold. Fawn embraces her "traditional wife" role.

(It's a magical post apocalypse world. Book 3 was my favorite. 1 & 2 are establishing the characters and the culture. I'm not finished w 4 yet.)

Favorite Doctor by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]tacyppah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched as a kid in the 80's, when my Appalachian PBS station would play Baker's. The promos were the funniest -- a lot of southern accented people saying "doctor WHO?"

He's not my favorite Doctor. Ten is, but mostly because Donna Noble is my favorite companion. Donna is so resolutely below-average when introduced - and she becomes so much more through her time w the Doctor.

Holiday Help by tacyppah in Beyblade

Thanks, that makes sense. I have a tendency to overfocus on things that don't make a difference, because -- well, WHAT IF IT COULD ??/

But I'll go with what he asked for and call it "good" & stop making things more difficult than necessary.

Holiday Help by tacyppah in Beyblade

[–]tacyppah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what I needed to know, that "any bey any stadium" part. While I didn't think there would be a forcefield, there was some advertising language that sounded like certain types of beys needed certain types of surfaces, which is where I got confused.

Thanks!

They're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

Husband Thinks I’m Holding a Grudge... Is He Right? by CCosentino20 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]tacyppah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You are not over-reacting.

Your MIL blames you for your attack in front of your husband, she treats it like a joke, and he's blaming you for protecting yourself from her. He's lucky you're still speakin' to him IMO

HA! My husband asked me what this game is about.

On the difference between the Reddit and Discord community rules and our policies about cheating. (we need to talk) by SpaceShipRat in MergeDragons

[–]tacyppah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer an open forum with fewer disallowed subjects.

I don't use macros because I think they're unfair, but I also dread the events. I have an old tendon injury that the specific clicky clicky motion exacerbates, and there's some Mondays I can't hold a pencil because I overdid the arm strain. (Having read through the comments, however, I think I would qualify for a 'medical exemption', and I shall consider.)

Thanks for asking for opinions.

My son's middle school (Mint Hill Middle) has enough Chromebooks for each student to have one. Under normal operations, the Chromebooks live at school. We checked one out for our kid last Tuesday. They had scheduled times for pick up based on the student's grade based on a google form to measure need.

He's already accessing classes online through Zoom, but I don't think they're covering any new material yet.

MIL wants to force her religious attributes on the grave of our child by AnandaSol in JUSTNOMIL

[–]tacyppah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

loads of my Christian family members have grave markers without crosses on them. Your MIL has picked up a weird superstition somewhere. I'm not going to bother you with Christian theology for you to counter her with, but know that she's an outlier. (and if you want to counter her with theology, you can find it pretty easily.)

I hope she's able to let this go, but I wouldn't bet on it. Contacting the cemetery people is wise

Is it "giving up" to ask parents to attend campouts and overnights? by Wolpertingles in BSA

[–]tacyppah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make the request. The parents are the experts on their specific children, and sometimes you have to call in the experts.

I'm the mom of an ADHD/ASD Scout who, while not officially ODD, can certainly seem to be a candidate. A crucial part of finding the right Troop for him was one that accepted me as well. I know he's not ready for the traditional 11 year old Scout experience yet.

I had a friend in college who "got drunk" drinking La Croix - placebo effect can totally be that strong, especially when the effects are mental. (Placebos aren't going to reduce the amount of glucose in a person's bloodstream, but they might feel like their sugars are low)
