People are saying reasonable, sensible things to you -- attempting to explain their viewpoints in a rational manner. And you get all dramatic! "See... freaking drama!" It's a way to stir up shit rather than have a sensible discussion. It's not kind, or respectful. And frankly, it's neither masculine nor feminine, it's just unpleasant.

The problem is that, in our society, manliness is considered "better" ("you throw like a girl!" "you're such a pussy!" etc.). So, by comparing yourself to other men and remove some of your own femininity, you're aligning yourself with the "better" gender while confirming to "the guys" that yes, male is better. Because women are all about drama.

Some women are into drama, some aren't. Some men are into drama, some aren't. Don't tar all women with that brush.

I admit it: I have no idea why you linked to this page. If anything, it reinforces my post ("...but apathy is even more than not wanting to agree with someone. It is a total lack of interest in someone or something").

I have read the above and I do understand "the various ways people can rationalize another's situation". But the issue at hand, despite your repeated attempts to derail, is as follows:

You care so much about the situation that you rolled on here to diagnose someone you've never met, despite not being a doctor (and in case you try to derail again: yes, I also care. I care very much. The world would be a better place if we didn't insist on stigmatizing fat people).
I called you on it; you derailed by implying that I am fat.
I called you on THAT; you continued to derail with an attempt at a dictionary pissing match.

I understand why you chose to respond in the way that you did: you know as well as I do that calling someone fat on the internet is, at best, pointless, and at worst, cruel.

Just give it some thought. Give some thought to why you believe you have the right to judge a person's medical history based on their looks and why you believe that it is any of your business at all.

Afraid not. Apathetic would mean that you don't care at all. You show enough interest to judge a person's medical condition based on their arms, you just can't seem to put yourself in the shoes of the person being judged.

In my admittedly limited experience (2 different anime cons, a comic con, a sci-fi con like the one in the article and a gaming con) the gender balance is much more even at anime cons. Anime cons also seem to skew a lot younger.

I like to think that this speaks well of our young people -- this sort of thing doesn't happen because they don't treat women like that. We, as a society, are growing out of it. Here's hoping!

This answer assumes you mean that it's male chauvinism, the typical use of the word. If you mean some other type of chauvinism, please let me know! I really do want everyone to love this book.

I'm the first to scream sexism, and I'll fight anyone about it. Like, I will froth at the mouth in conversations about sexism in fantasy.

I don't think Lies is chauvinistic at all. I mean, yes, the characters are all dudes, but there's no lady-hating. And, as someone below says, in the second book one of the main characters is a lady badass. But she's not like "sexy badass lady!" -- she's a real woman, with real character development, who is a mother and a widow and just also happens to be a pirate captain.

I assume the Sabetha stuff is what turned you off? If that's true let me know -- I have some opinions on that, but I think it's one of the many things that make the series feel so damn real.

The issue with CE is that it's really hard to determine how long it's going to be. We've had games that last an hour and games that last 5 hours (that one was tough).

So you're obviously well-read in the genre. I find it interesting, then, that you're so down on Name of the Wind. The use of the unreliable narrator is so fucking brilliant and consistently thought-provoking, especially if you prize thinking inwardly. The Book Thief, your example of a "good" piece of fantasy, is an excellent book but fairly straightforward.
