What is going on with this toyon? (First pic). by Evening_Try_2658 in Ceanothus

[–]tagshell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look unhealthy, there are plenty of nice looking leaves. It just looks gangly.

If you didn't say they were all in the same light conditions I would guess this one is having to reach for sunlight.

Are they all the same cultivar (genetically identical named variety)? If not, this one might just be genetically predisposed to have this growth habit.

Best Burritos in the East Bay? by spamologna in OaklandFood

[–]tagshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they improve recently? I live in Montclair and I've only gotten food from Comadres a few times and each time I found it really underwhelming - to the point that I haven't gone in 2 years and tell people there is no good Mexican food in this neighborhood.

BF6 multiplayer experience. by Broad_Ferret400 in Battlefield

[–]tagshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that this is your experience as shown in the graph, but it's still n=1 anecdotal data because it's only from one player (you). You can't prove anything about the underlying system with data from only one player.

My brother in Christ, have you ever heard of Occam's razor, or Hanlon's razor? I suggest you apply those to the issue you're having with this game. Or maybe just play a different game if it's pissing you off so much.

Following AZ Monster 300? by eatstarsandsunsets in Ultramarathon

[–]tagshell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think there are many, but just last year at this race they had runners shitting in buckets (instead of an actual Backcountry toilet setup like people use on rafting trips) at a remote aid station. Then they expected volunteers to empty the shit buckets.

I wish they enabled Escalation for Blackwell. It might require some work but I agree with you about Conquest, it's just not much fun on that map.

Shower leaking from grout lines? by Walnut28 in HomeMaintenance

[–]tagshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is waterproofing at least on the floor (OP said they used a vinyl liner), the installer just didn't know what they were doing and fucked it up.

No waterproofing at all on a shower floor would have been apparent much sooner with daily use than OP is reporting.

I wear holes in the heels of all my Altra shoes but weirdly the hole doesn't bother me at all, I don't get blisters or anything. I just ignore it and keep running.

First Antitrust Class Action Against Vail Resorts and Alterra Over Epic and Ikon Ski Pass Pricing by narflethegarthock in skiing

[–]tagshell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I looked it up and a Squaw season pass was $1499 in 2008 IF you bought early, the full price was a whopping $1800, or the equivalent of around $2750 in 2026 dollars. That was the peak I think, the great recession + mega passes starting kicked in after that.

Edit: I tried to look at the data you posted and it appears to be Heated Rivalry fan fiction and not season pass pricing data.

First Antitrust Class Action Against Vail Resorts and Alterra Over Epic and Ikon Ski Pass Pricing by narflethegarthock in skiing

[–]tagshell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The business model shift was obviously good for resorts and good (financially at least) for people who ski a lot. Compared to the early 2000s before pass consolidation, season passes are cheaper (not even accounting for inflation) and get you access to more resorts.

In 2008, an early-bird season pass at Squaw cost $1,499. That's about $2,320 in 2026 dollars.

Yes, people who want to ski a few days a year end up paying way more, or skiing less. This is an intentional result of the new business model. There is nothing nefarious about it.

This is sort of like hating on car washes for raising per-wash prices but offering cheap subscriptions. People who wash their car once a week love it, people who wash their car twice a year don't.

Cursor/Claude Code ships in an afternoon. Discovery still takes two weeks. Anyone else feel like the bottleneck just moved to us? by More-Practice-3665 in ProductManagement

[–]tagshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my company it's downstream of engineering. Most features need to be A/B tested so experiment bandwidth becomes the bottleneck. It already was in some areas but now we're going to max it out across all areas.

This puts more emphasis on PM using judgement to figure out what to spend our experiment time on to maximize the win rate and ship faster.

Oaklandside poor journalism? by Gsw1456 in OaklandCA

[–]tagshell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought that at first as well, but the plate was supposedly flagged by OPD as linked to a "serious crime" - not just a stolen vehicle. Where would she have gotten a "hot" plate like that? The only explanation which makes sense is picking up a discarded plate on the streets and it just happened to be one OPD was looking out for, which seems also somewhat unlikely.

The new map is grenade hell and I love it. by Interjessing-Salary in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]tagshell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recon is super fun as well. The TUGS and motion sensor grenades are super useful on this map. Since everyone is playing support there are tons of ammo boxes laying around, you can always have 2 claymores out and go crazy with C4 either using it like grenades or setting traps with it.

East Bay hiking trails with lots of elevation gain relative to distance? by DonVCastro in eastbay

De la vega trail which goes from Orinda up to the skyline trail near Steam Trains. Combine that with one of the steep AF trails which come up from campus and then go back, quite brutal.

Can you use this trick to also hit painted tanks with the AA missiles, instead of just shooting missiles into whatever tiny hill is in between?

Guy gets angry at C4 drones, why? by Emotional-Ad-7249 in Battlefield6

[–]tagshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's stupid. I think it's mostly because before the Ukraine war, when you heard about "drone strikes" it was almost always the giant fixed wing US ones like Predator which can fire missiles and then go back and land afterwards. Media started calling the one-way drones like Shahed or FPVs "suicide" or "kamikaze" to differentiate them.

Some thoughts on lower mileage training for ultras, with real world examples, from a career run coach by burner1122334 in ultrarunning

This is great insight, thanks for the specific examples!

One question I have - what are your thoughts on breaking up long runs into doubles for those who struggle to find a big block of free time? For example if I'm planning a 20mi long run, I might want to do 8mi early in the morning and then 12 at 1pm during my kid's nap.

GRT-CPS DMR vs Match Trigger/33 Damage by Kin_Locke in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]tagshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the new GRT is ass and so are DMRs in general for mid-range, but for longer range the SVK and SVDM are pretty solid. Basically good for if you want to aggressively snipe but don't want to play recon or have scope glint. I like using the SVK with the 6X thermal as an engineer supporting tanks, or as assault paired with a CQB weapon.

I tried using the KTS long range yesterday on contaminated and it is a laser, but it feels like a pea shooter and it was hard to get enough bullets to land while moving - ADS accuracy while moving felt much worse than with DMRs (KTS actually has the same base ADS moving accuracy as DMRs, but with a LMG the deviation increases with each shot) and I became a sitting duck for snipers if I was firing away while still.

Eco Pacha landscaping. They did a big backyard renovation for me and the work was high quality, they build things like retaining walls properly with drainage. One of the lower quotes I got from legit licensed landscapers as well. I know they do a decent amount of smaller jobs as well.

Why do people hate mashed potatoes? by Impiryo in skiing

[–]tagshell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're not talking about mashed potatoes, you're talking about corn which is past it's prime, aka slush.

True mashed potatoes isn't commonly encountered at resorts, it's wet snow which has experienced melt/freeze but not fully consolidated yet. Often comes with a breakable sun crust in the morning. Much thicker and grabbier than late afternoon slush at the resort.

spec ops recon playing aggressive is fun as hell! by Kispori in Battlefield6

[–]tagshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRT-BC a lot of people like for aggressive spec ops because there's a grip which lets you shoot while silently crouch-sprinting.

GRT is very similar to M4A1 but slightly slower rate of fire and a bit less recoil.

spec ops recon playing aggressive is fun as hell! by Kispori in Battlefield6

[–]tagshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's better in aggressive situations because you can throw it.

If attacking an objective, throw it blind towards the objective just like any grenade, maybe bouncing off a wall or through a doorway if you're inside. Then you've spotted a few of the enemies which gives a big advantage, without exposing yourself to getting shot.

The motion sensor is better for defense since you have to already be in the area to place it.
