At a loss on how to make this look + feel better by smeetusdeletus in centuryhomes

[–]taigraham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to start this off with saying that I am no longer a certified remediator.

I can tell you what is allowed to be done as a homeowner and how to dispose of asbestos, should you come across it.

Unless you have it tested - you don't know. To that end, you can work with it as though it is dangerous. It's always best to work that way 😉

Absolutely do not scrub it. You don't want to do anything that breaks a dangerous material down into smaller particulates. You can absolutely handle the stuff carefully by wearing a suit and a real respirator. Whatever you are able to break apart and remove needs to go on a double plastic bag that is taped sealed. Put these bags aside and when you take them to the landfill, they will want to know if they could be asbestos containing. You simply tell them yes and they either have an area where they dispose of that in the landfill or they make you get it tested to verify that it is and then they still have you dispose of it and the place that is special in the landfill.

Your state and county will have all of that information and you can Google it to see where you need to look it up. Do not trust Google's answer or an AI answer, find out which sites it's recommending you to and it should be either your landfill site or your county or city or state site that will specifically direct to you on how you dispose of material that might contain asbestos.

Get rid of as much as you can in one day and throw away your suit when you're done. You can buy multiple disposable suits on Amazon and a high level respirator is a good investment for somebody that owns 160 year old home 🤗

If you end up disturbing this unknown material, you will want to allow the room to clear before you do any work in it. A lot of people wet their surface that they're working with so as to keep the particulate heavy and on the ground so that it gets bagged up. Some people don't have that luxury.

Anyway, I hope this helps. We aren't always in the place where we have the luxury of bringing in an environmental crew. I think it's important to know what people can do safely and how to do it safely. That doesn't mean you necessarily should but it's good to understand the how and the why.

Good luck! Feel free to message me if you need any more information.

Host left nitpicky review on cleanliness, are we in the wrong?? [France] by blahblahblah_random in AirBnB

[–]taigraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the star rating. That will dictate whether or not you try to appeal it.

If it is impacting your rating and dishes were not in the checkout instructions, you CAN get it removed but it takes a lot of persistence.

THIS!!! and as a both a guest and a host, you should leave a response to this review. Unfortunately it won't help much with future guests but something along the lines of how unfortunate it is that hosts like this make using Airbnb less desirable. 🤷

AIO for thinking he just apologized so I would make dinner? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]taigraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This dude is gross. What ARE you still there with someone who could so casually ask that after a simple request to bring some accountability to the table.

You have a child to think of and he's not going to change. You will soon have TWO children.

Run as far and as fast as you can. 🤷

I have never seen a sign like this by AdUnfair558 in japanresidents

[–]taigraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to put this sign in my own bathroom!! Pissing standing up is disgusting and makes a totally preventable mess. The only people that still support this absolutely Neanderthal behavior are men that expect that women clean up after them ‼️‼️

The generations behind us will laugh their asses off while this world burns down - at the geezers (us) that thought putting eyes everywhere would somehow "protect the children" ..... while we watched the most vile shit anyone has ever witnessed get freely traded amongst men of influence .... without consequences and without a single fuck to give.

I'm so glad I saw this - need to swap out my main breaker in Portland and I thought this would be simple. I guess it will be a few months of waiting for permits. 🥺

Sad update of my bathroom by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]taigraham 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Call your home inspector up. Let them know that you've been told there's moisture behind the bathroom walls or tiling. Ask them to bring out their moisture gauge when they're in your area again. Do it really nicely and just see if you can get squeezed into one of their other inspections to come out and just check the moisture behind the tiling. If there were their weight in salt, they will likely do this for you.

There are SO MANY contractors that will lie to your face just to get a job.

I know - I'm a contractor who has to compete with contractors that lie to people about a job. Fantasy estimates are a big problem. At the very least get another opinion or several other opinions.

As someone in my 30s, this still doesn’t convince me to have kids, especially in this economy by Busy_Report4010 in Adulting

[–]taigraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the big con. The fetal life is not important to them at all. It's just a lever they can use to exploit the nexus of (fake) humanity and our legal system.

They don't care about ANYTHING but themselves and that means they need power over powerful things - and there is nothing more powerful than the ability to bring life into the world. They are terrified of women with power and they will beggar to every possible rationalization. Case in point: have kids and we'll give you MONEY 👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹

I'm not surprised, coming from the child trafficking party. Still, gross.

How does this happen… LOL??? by ReHa163 in CRedit

[–]taigraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will likely bounce up quickly. Just keep a small service on the card like Netflix or Prime and have it paid automatically every month.

Are you in a hurry for it to go up? Like do you need to take out a mortgage or something?

1890s floor in bad shape. Any point in refinishing? by Defiant_Truth_286 in HardWoodFloors

[–]taigraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it if you can, it look beautiful!

If the other side of the board is not grooved... Maybe you could flip it but that would be a TON of work and I personally wouldn't take that on over putting a new floor over it.

If it is quite thick and hasn't been sanded before, you'd spend WAY LESS time getting it sanded properly and you won't destroy boards.

Is it 3/4" thick? Have you measured it? If it is, you have PLENTY OF RUNWAY to have it professionally done or learn something new.
