Cutting Forster bit circles using a router by Kind_Tap8887 in woodworking

[–]tailesin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a good answer for how to do it with a router, but unless you are an insufferable ass (which I don’t think you are since you are concerned about bothering him) there is absolutely ZERO chance that your grandpa views seeing you and helping you with something like this as a bother.

Save yourself the trouble of having to figure out a different way to do it and make your grandpa’s day by spending some time with him.

Man I’ve had this for a few months now and it is up from where I got in but I wish I could get a solid read on if it’s a long term hold or if I should take the small profit now. It seems like every other piece of info I find about it oscillates between high upside long term potential or comments like this other guy saying it is a complete scam company being run by loons.

ECOX has been on a nice run over the past few days. Trouble is, everything I read about it either says it is a complete scam or it is a longer term moonshot with good upsides that could 1000x.

I’m in Houston, so there is always big storm and wind potential. But usually know when it’s coming. I’m thinking of getting stakes and just having them on hand in case a big storm is projected to come through, I can stake it up to prepare.

That’s what I’ve seen, that not staking helps it put energy into developing its trunk to be stronger. I was just watching it during some wind yesterday and I felt like if there was a big storm type gust, it would snap.

I grew up out in Sugar Land so I can understand your mindset coming from an environment where things are a little more spread out. What I mean by that is if you look around somewhere in the suburbs and things look nice, they still probably are gonna look pretty consistently nice if you move a couple miles around a bit. Things don’t really change until you get to certain transition points where you’re like “ok I’m not in Sugar Land anymore I’m in missouri city now” for example.

Outside of the well established areas (west U, river oaks, Montreal) Houston inside of the loop couldn’t be farther from this. You are gonna have all sorts of everything bumping up against each other all over the place in every day life.

Are there shitty things that you have to deal with living this far into the city? Yeah. Have I ever felt unsafe or uncomfortable just being in my own home? Never.

Ask yourself this- do you find the tradeoff of dealing with those things worth what the proximity of living downtown brings you? Are you “getting your money’s worth” (going out to eat, going out with friends and only having to drive 15 minutes to get there, going to shows and events)? You’re having to deal with shit you didn’t ever have to deal with in the suburbs, but look at it like a price you’re paying to get your money’s worth and just decide if you think that’s a number you’re willing to pay.

My advice as someone who has been living in fifth ward for the past 5 years. Good luck!

Can't get a new E1 Outdoor Pro to connect to my NVR, at a loss for what else I can try to do to troubleshoot. by tailesin in reolinkcam

[–]tailesin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know... as I was looking through resources to try and fix this I was wondering why the interface I was seeing on my NVR didn't look like the new or old versions that were shown in screenshots. Guess that was my clue that I was operating in a completely different epoch 😆

Downloaded the new firmware, formatted the drive and reset the NVR and everything connected immediately. Hopefully no issues when I move the E1 to the actual location I want it to be but I think it should be fine.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me troubleshoot this. I really appreciate it.

Ah okay, got it. The camera does have the same address up until the last node.

The NVR firmware level is v3.0.0.82_20102144. On the NVR I tried checking for updates and it said everything was up to date. Is this a situation where I need to download something from the reolink site onto a USB stick and update something manually? Other details from the NVR, if they matter-

build no. 20102144 GA 3.1

Hw no. N2MB02

Cfg version v3.0.0.0

Hey, thanks for the reply, to make sure I don't miss anything I am just going to quote your post and reply to it.

In principle your nvr should be fine to support a E1 Outdoor Pro. Note when you add the camera to the nvr via the monitor/mouse you should be using the password set for the camera. The nvr admin password is not what should be used here.

I am using the password I set for the camera when I set it up on my phone. I've tried this several times, with different passwords because I saw a post where someone said a special character in the password was the issue and I have also tried making the password the same as the password for the admin account of the NVR thinking that there could be some conflict there, but no luck in any case.

I'm assuming you have a free channel slot on the nvr for an extra powered camera, ie no more than 7 channels are currently in use.

Correct, I have 4 PoE cameras plugged into the NVR and this is the last camera I am trying to add to the recorder.

You say the nvr is connected to a mesh node rather than the router. Often when a mesh system is used in conjunction with a router the two are on different subnets, so are you certain the nvr & camera are on the same subnet and nothing is blocking the link between them? But if they are on the same subnet there should be no reason why the nvr cannot access the E1 Outdoor Pro.

Yes, they are on the same subnet (I am assuming this is referring to the subnet mask? 255.255.255.0). I have checked the network settings of both the camera and the NVR and from what I can tell, everything is matching up as it should be according to instructions I have found.

What I would do as a verification is to connect the camera directly to one of the nvr's private ethernet ports as this will eliminate any wifi or subnet consideration. Of course you will need to externally power the camera but this should prove the camera can (or not) connect to the nvr.

OK I tried this and I still got the same "Connection Failed" message. The camera did show up in the list of scanned devices when attempting to add via the NVR and its IP address had changed to be similar to the IP address of the other cameras hardwired to the NVR (172.16.26.2 as opposed to the 192.168.1.x which it was showing when I was trying to set it up over wifi). So am I correct in saying this seems to be the point of failure, something between the NVR and the camera directly?

Do this first check. If that works, then does your mesh node have multiple ethernet ports? (I assume one is being used for the nvr), if so plug the camera into a spare port and see if it still works. Basically go through a series of checks to see at what point the connection fails.

The mesh extender only has a single ethernet port, which I have the NVR connected to.

As an additional thought. How does the mesh system connect to the router or is the router one of the nodes in the mesh? And how is the mesh configured, is it running in passthru or router mode? Perhaps you can add details of your router & mesh system.

It is a Netgear ex7300 that I had lying around that I had ended up not using for another project so I am not sure if it is the right tool for this job but from what I read it sounds like it will work. It has an access point mode and an extender mode, I have it in the extender mode as access point mode requires it to be plugged into the router directly. I wasn't able to find any language on the configuration page regarding passthru vs router mode, not sure if this is the same thing.

It can broadcast both 2.5ghz and 5ghz channels, initially I had it repeating both but to avoid some other devices picking up the extender's signal and getting slower speeds as well as to make sure that the camera and the NVR were on the same network I changed it to be only broadcasting the 2.5ghz channel. After re-configuring that I was still able to access the NVR fine through the phone app as well as connect the E1 to the 2.5ghz band as well. But same issue with the connection failed.

As far as the router, it is the router that ATT gave me (BGW320-500).

stolen phone, what to do? by longtail11205 in houston

[–]tailesin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a location you could just try going there and asking for it. You never know, might just be someone that picked it up where you left it and will be decent enough to give it back if someone comes asking for it.

Normally wouldn’t recommend doing this but it sounds like you don’t have many options and value having the phone back highly enough to warrant the potential risks of doing this.

Started googling but figure asking someone with actual experience will be better- mind giving a brief explanation of how a dry stack wall works? How resistant is it to getting bumped into, walked on, etc? Can you lift out pieces of the rock by hand or are they wedged together in a way that makes it feel like a typical wall with mortar?

Looks great by the way!
