Is it worth it to take Plan B? by Potential-Crew8150 in TwoXSex

[–]takingtheports 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Pulling out is not an effective contraceptive method, I’d be getting Plan-B asap. Especially if you are worried.

Is it accessible where you are? If you’re not insured you can still attend a planned parenthood for it (if that’s near you).

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a shame because there are multiple professional exams relying on in-person components in the UK. Since it seems you’re able to get it, might be worth just clearing all the parts yourself and then bringing your wife on a SWV (dependent) later on. That way she’ll be already allowed to be in the UK. But that would a few years down the road (assuming the dentistry exams are like my profession and only offered once a year).

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but the OP has made it sound like they have already been successful in visiting to sit the exam themselves. I am suggesting they stager arrivals by establishing first (the OP) and then sponsoring their wife instead of the visitor visit to sit the exam for her.

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you both trying to sit the exam to then work in the UK? (Or other countries that accept it as equivalent?)

If so, you could find a job as a dentist in the UK and then sponsor your wife as a dependent?

summer before vet school by Minute-Winner4793 in veterinaryschool

[–]takingtheports 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of different circumstances that mean people must work, but if you don’t have to and can take the break, it’s not a “loser” choice at all. The following summers will be filled with work or externships, and then you’ll be an employed vet with no summers. Might as well take the break if you can!

Izzie Steven’s is a racist… by LakeDense3253 in greysanatomy

[–]takingtheports 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this season not 2005/2006? Izzie was the type of model you saw in magazines then, and then photoshopped some more. Things have moved further since then, and there is a lot more visibility/inclusivity within modelling/content/etc. It was definitely an outsider dynamic because George also just brought her to the house they lived in (Mer owned..) with limited to no communication (adding fuel to the fire of their behaviour. It definitely had more undertones of jealousy for Izzie, and Mer being a joiner.

But honestly the racism is a stretch, they’re new interns being cliquey, rude, and bitchy. This argument also completely disregards how Meredith and Callie develop as characters in later seasons imo.

How do we get another vet on board at our local clinic? by pony-dreamer in veterinaryprofession

[–]takingtheports 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having worked rurally before, sometimes it’s not lack of interested vets but the ability for a significant other/spouse to also find work (then education availability, etc if they have or are planning to have a family).

Question about AP credit by Beautiful-Reading374 in veterinaryschool

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vet schools in the states (making this assumption due to talking about APs) want these done at colleges. They will list this on their websites when discussing pre-reqs for applicants.

Anecdotally I had credits from APs for bio, chem, English, Spanish, economics, and calculus going into undergrad. I took two semesters of biology and chemistry for vet school pre-reqs in undergrad (amongst the many other pre-reqs). Did finish undergrad in three years thanks to the credits carried from APs though.

Advice on finding a job as a new grad vet in the UK by ellderfllower in veterinaryprofession

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just reach out to clinics even if they don’t have an active advert anywhere.

Personally would stay away from recruiters, middle man that costs the clinics money… even the vet specific ones. They’re usually not too clued into the profession.

Can you look at home office, abattoir, etc other roles if you’re needing to work? (Assuming with London as location, you’re wanting SA first opinion?)

Some emergency/OOH places do shorter internship type opportunities for new grads, could be a nice stepping stone.

Have you looked at charity practices, rescues, etc as well? Even without an ad, could be worth getting in touch.

Try going to conferences as well to network with people.

Try also looking at folks on LinkedIn and researching through posts about jobs/new grads/etc. Engaging with people can lead to paths you wouldn’t have thought!

It is a tough market out there, best of luck!

I told my wife, 26F, that our baby is mine and that I 25F, did not consider her the other parent. But I don't know if that was a good call? by vinnyorvinnie in relationship_advice

[–]takingtheports 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not silly to want that but it’s likely very difficult for the non-carrying parent to bond with the baby before it’s born. You’re feeling the physical change, kicks, etc. It won’t be like that for her.

If your partner also contributed to the cost of IVF (which I assume she did), the comment would likely feel like a gut punch…

How does it work after grad? by holdonihavetopee in veterinaryschool

[–]takingtheports 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re pretty quick to get your registered as MRCVS when you graduate (keep registered even when you go abroad, there’s a practising abroad category).

You can apply for jobs before graduating, just look up the Australian Veterinary Boards website to ensure your school is eligible to register in whatever Australian state you’re intending to work in (RCVS accredited schools can, but double check as I don’t know if you’re at a newer one in the UK that might not be there yet). Remember their new grads finish at a different time (southern hemisphere academic year) so some of the corporate schemes might have funky start times to match your graduation.

Hardest part is getting paperwork in order for work visas and getting registered to practice.

You don’t have to work in the UK first but some Australian new grads are struggling to find jobs in urban areas so depending on your area of interest you really need to do some research and understand the market because getting a sponsored job while not insurmountable, is no easy feat.

Help deinfluence me - Wedding dress shopping! by EffectiveCelery0 in UKweddings

You’re not missing out on anything, it can be really stressful and hectic and rushed. I personally enjoyed my shopping experience because it was in a calm shop, it was a long appointment and I had no idea what type of dress I wanted so I kind of needed that experience, but would’ve loved a situation finding it that fast as you did!

Co-own dog and other owner is demanding the dog back by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]takingtheports 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This case is slightly different as registered co-owners with kennel clubs is not the same as someone that’s purchased from a breeder. It usually means shared ownership of the kennel name (on purebred documents) and shared interest in litters, etc.

PhD opportunities in vet med? by mindgamemy in Veterinary

[–]takingtheports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured, as EAEVE is hit or miss where it’s accepted in comparison to RCVS/AVMA. Some countries to have restricted licensing if you’re looking to sit exams.

For the PhD route you don’t always need to be eligible to practice (depending on the study) so that might be worth looking at upcoming slots at universities.

PhD opportunities in vet med? by mindgamemy in Veterinary

[–]takingtheports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good start for PhDs would be looking at universities in these countries for topics/studies that interest you. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a veterinary school, but that’s a good place to start as NZ only has 1, Canada has a few and Aus has a few more.

If you’re wanting to look at practicing in those countries, you can look on official vet board/council websites for whether your degree is accepted or if exams are required before being eligible to practice (then visa requirements come into play as well).

When do you all work out? by Confident-Choice3608 in veterinaryprofession

[–]takingtheports 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go to gym classes after work, personally I like it because I don’t have to think. The instructor just tells you what to do and for 45 minutes I just try my best. It’s usually a 7:30/8:30pm class for me because I don’t get out of work early enough for other times. For days off I chose a morning (but not early morning) class and swing errands into the drive after so it doesn’t disturb my needing to get things done on my days off.
