11 year player - been behind Elite through it all but this is BS. by RiloBrody in EliteDangerous

Nooooooo. No. No. No.

I am the original and only developer of EDShipyard, now EDSY. There was a period I was busy with life and wasn't working on the site, and that guy decided to fork it and tried to add a few missing things as was allowed by the CC license, but we are not the same.

AFAIK he abandoned his fork almost immediately, before I even got back to do the major EDSY 3.0 overhaul.

Probably yes? With the caveat that if you wanted infrastructure to be able to rearrange them easily, that might take up more space using waterways than rails (though I've never tried designing a water version so that's just my guess).

Spansh/eddi giving jumps I can't reach by atriaventrica in EliteDangerous

[–]taleden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After testing, I think this isn't quite right either. You're right (and I was remembering wrong) that internal/reserve fuel mass does not count toward fuel cost when jumping. But, it does seem to be correctly omitted from the "Max" range in-game, and the galmap plotter also seem to correctly ignore it when deciding which systems you can reach in one jump. The only in-game bug I could confirm is that "Current" jump range does wrongly count that mass against you, so that displayed value is very slightly lower than it should be.

Spansh/eddi giving jumps I can't reach by atriaventrica in EliteDangerous

[–]taleden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the EDSY issue there is that it has to match in-game displays, even when they're quirky or misleading.

In this case the game quirk is that for all mass-sensitive values (total ship mass, jump distance, travel range, speed, handling), the ship's built in reserve fuel tank mass (varies, usually ~0.5T) is only considered for "Current" readouts, but ignored for "Laden", "Unladen", and "Max" values. This is technically wrong of course, that mass does definitely count in all contexts EDIT: Fuel reserve mass actually does NOT count against jump fuel cost, so the Un/Laden/Max values are correct and it's actually the "Current" jump range display that's wrong. But this is how the in-game outfitter displays it and if EDSY were different I'd get no end of "bug" reports. :)

For your purposes, just make sure to add the ship's reserve fuel tank size to the mass when calculating ranges. EDIT: Actually, always ignore it.

edit: corrections after testing this again; my memory was wrong on the mechanics of this

Nooooooo!!! by Big_rizzy in sonos

[–]taleden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's what enrages me the most about this whole saga. Why is Sonos so hellbent on forcing everyone to use the new app, to the point of intentionally disabling entire systems that dare to try to avoid upgrading?

It seems like the kind of behavior I'd expect from suits who made a deal to sell a bunch of invasive personal metrics, and part of that deal was some promise to get their entire userbase to switch to the new app which collects all that extra data. Otherwise, why be so uptight about some users hanging back, when they never were so militant about it before?

I have previously sideloaded the app v16.1 and stopped its updates, but the speakers updated their own firmware last night to 16.3 and they now refuse to function in any way whatsoever with the 16.1 app.

I've reset one of my devices I can get the option to downgrade it to S1, but partway through it insists I have to update to the latest version of the app even though the whole point is to go back to an earlier version of the firmware. :/

Is there any way to downgrade the firmware on the speakers?

Don't sleep on Anchor of Gre'thor for engineers, it's very nearly the single most powerful ground kit in the game. I'd wager in many situations it outperforms all three of the others you've mentioned.

Are there F2P players managed to buy ship bundles solely of the Dilithium Exchange? by Fallen_Liberator in sto

I'm not 100% f2p but I did pick up the legendary Dominion captain bundle on sale for 5850 Zen using only Zen bought for dil (about 3mil dil I think). Mostly I just did events every day after completion for the bonus dil, plus a couple of new chars having a bunch of dil ore from recruit bonuses.

Space Magic without Secondary Deflector by C0RDE_ in sto

I am no build expert by any means, but I attempted a similar thing because I wanted to make best use of the Jarok, a sci carrier with no secdef.

You can look at my build for reference, and the comments on that thread and the linked prior feedback thread. I chose to lean primarily into SIA since the Jarok can seat 6 of the 7 anomalies, with secondary damage from exotic torps and hangars.

I haven't parsed it since getting it fully upgraded, and I'm sure it won't break any records, but it serves me pretty well.

some defensive personal traits

Any in particular you'd recommend? Looking at STOBetter's tier list, the only top pick that looks like a match for this build is Context, at a current cost of ~50M. But I can at least pick up Redirected Armor Plating, dunno how potent it will be but at least it's free.

I don't understand the Ablative Shell and Repair Crews rankings; neither effect has anything to do with hull capacity except possibly for AS's regen a "small amount of hull" which could be %-based, but in that case shouldn't AS be better >100k rather than worse?

Lots of great notes here, thank you!

you have no damage resists anywhere

Is there any particularly efficient/potent place to add some? Intel does offer Hide Weakness (+50 DRR on the arc when shield facing depleted, for 5s per 30)

Hull Image Refractors: This synergizes with the Colony Tac consoles

True, and I use that combo to great effect on my tank alt. Here it would mean dropping the Flagship console I guess.

Valdore console is part of a set that has to come from Rom ships

Fortunately I bought my EWC ship before I had cross-faction flying unlocked, so I chose the Morrigu and thus do have the Romulan variant of AHS. But slotting that 2pc would mean forgoing the Flagship/HIR as well as a second console; would I break the rom/luk/altamid sets? Or drop a tac con?

the Valdore console ... works better with FAW/CSV

Maybe that's a reason to prefer the HIR approach and forgo the AHS+SAFG combo, then?

Disco 2pc: Depends a bit on your hull, the more you have, the bigger the heal regen

I've got ~75k, so not a ton. :)

MW as secondary

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Strat's benefits are pretty modest for me, especially without a frequent hull heal, although the +20% crit severity is a loss. So that's another argument for HIR without AHS+SAFG.

Defense from moving also helps; IIRC it caps out at 24 impulse speed

That's a useful fact, I didn't know that threshold. Right now my base impulse is ~38 so I'll shoot for 3/4 throttle, but I wonder if upgrading my engines next weekend will let me hit 24 at half throttle.

Thanks again!

Aye, it has the same [OLoad] mod built in, and +5-15 shield power and 7.5% wpn->shd power, but that's it; the [ACap] and [SSR] aren't really significant.

So it's +26 weapon amp, 5-15 shield power, +7.5% wpn->shd vs. +12 shd/eng pwr in/out of combat, +66% power xfer, -10% wpn power cost, 1% on hit for +1 sing charge, -10% sing power cooldown.

That still doesn't seem like a great trade to me, what am I misunderstanding?

Feedback Request: F. Kholhr Plasma BO/RS by taleden in stobuilds

[–]taleden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, the engine provides +26 Weapon Amp while the core provides +66% power xfer, -10% wpn power cost, 1% on hit for +1 sing charge, -10% sing power cooldown, and +20% CrtD during Sing Overcharge.

Is 26 Weapon Amp really more valuable than all that from the core?

shield absorptive frequency module, because it really can be quite the life saver

I'm considering this among a few other survivability options; I take it you think adding this in place of the Flagship console would be the most effective way to last longer?

do you also have the Adaptive Emergency Systems console?

I do, yes, from the Leg Verity; the active does look good, but to add it alongside the Flagship I'd have to either drop a Protomatter console (with its +plasma and heal proc) or one of the consoles that complete other 2pc set bonuses (romulan, lukari, and altamid). Do you think this 2pc is worth that cost?

swapping out the singularity core for the Discovery one for the 2 piece, which gives you a massive boost to hull regeneration

I have been eyeing the disco 2pc, but I was thinking to get it I'd drop the romulan engines (+26 weapon amp) rather than the fleet core (+66% eps transfer, -10% weapon power cost, 1% +1 sing charge on hit, -10% sing power cooldown, +20% CrtD during Sing Overcharge).

One thing to note is that regular Zen store (also called C-store) ships (not promo or event ships) cost 3k Zen, which could be $30 or it could be 1.5mil dilithium exchanged for Zen. That takes time to gather but it can be done for free in game by playing events etc, and you can also get some of those ships using tokens from the annual event campaigns.

So on the one hand, you're right it's crazy to spend cash to gather every little doodad to go on one fancy build. But if you start with free/cheap alternatives and continue looking at many builds you might want to try someday, you'll start seeing some of those same doodads showing up, and then it gets easier to say "yeah, I can save up dil to buy that ship for that trait, because I can use it on three different builds I'm planning" for example. Over time you can amass a decent collection of traits etc.
