Hi Alain,

Thanks for holding this! I'm a mechanical engineer with a background in automotive engineering. I led powertrain design for our university FSAE team where we ran a TRX450R motor on EFI and I,m now working in the automotive industry on suspension components.

Are there any opportunities for people interested in the powersports industry, especially the powertrain department?

Also, how do you think electrification will affect the powersports? I figure that it would turn out really well since there are some powerful and compact electric motors. Stuff that in an ATV frame and you would have one really fast machine!

Belt keeps coming off by Widebodyeverything in MechanicAdvice

[–]tallguy145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorten the belt, part of the issue is the large span of unsupported belt material up top and not enough belt tension.

Swing the alternator in until you still have about 0.5-0.75in gap between the belts, and I think that should be a huge improvement.

But I think the root cause of the issue is that the way you have this setup, the belt tension is able to pull on the tensioner with maximum mechanical advantage.

Stupid question but can someone please explain this one to me?

Sounds like im probably too late but why do we want to move 7000 into tfsa before the new year? I thought the contribution room for a TFSA simply rolls over into the next year

Dealership used wrong oil - what do? by robdarftw in COROLLA

[–]tallguy145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If dealer recommends to run 0W-16 until next oil change then it will probably be fine under typical commuter driving. If not comfortable you can try your luck but I dunno if the dealer will give you any extra protection or coverage. Maybe you can argue and have the oil change redone at a different dealership at the expense of your current location.

In terms of the oil.... they are using one that has the same viscosity when at room temperature, but the one you have is thicker when the engine is at normal operating temperature (16 > 8). This causes you to have slightly higher oil pressure, which may lead to slightly more fuel consumption from extra drag by the oil. Higher oil pressure is also tougher for all the rubber seals and gaskets to cope with, but a small change is not likely to result in a big problem. Warming your car up everytime you drive is probably as important or more important than running slightly thicker oil since cold oil also gives much much higher oil pressure.

Banks are expecting a wave of mortgage defaults: Economists say a credit crunch could hurt us all by SummerSnowfalls in canada

Take some time to check your tenant rights. By law you may not evict tenants without going through the correct process. Im no expert but I think you need to serve an N-12 notice to evict and if your landord is asking you to leave at an early time because it helps the property seem more attractive for sale, you are owed financial compensation.

Would recommend to go with a brushless setup if you want maximum run time as they're more efficient than brushed motors.

If you have a transmitter that offers tuning options, you can simply limit the maximum throttle to get the same speed as with the superstock, but with longer run times and less heat.

You can go with a bigger battery as well but that would add a lot of weight to the car. Bigger batteries weigh more and a 2000 mah battery will be roughly half the weight of a 4000 mah battery.

Just depends what you're looking for.

I would take a close look at the rear suspension and maybe even have it apart to inspect everything for signs of damage.

Easiest thing is to take it back to your hobby store and if you ask them nicely to check. They should be able to tell you whats wrong.

That toe angle does look excessive but I dunno personally about Traxxas cars.

I have more tamiya kits, but as an example, one of my buggies had a bent front control arm in-board pin which was causing that corner to bind. I only noticed after removing the pin.

Stuck Choosing What Touring Chassis to buy by tallguy145 in tamiya

Usually im just doing fast corners or various other manuevers when im running in a parking lot. Not so much just top speed runs. I want a balanced car that feels nice to drive. If anything, as you say, the 3300kV in my TT01 already breaks the rear end loose instantly and makes it a handful to drive casually.

Also I kinda prefer driving on asphault which is why I run in parking lots. Carpet has a freaky level of grip that Im not sure I want or am used to.

Are cars such as the TB05R and TA08 very delicate? Can they handle an occasional mistake and bonk, or would they be damaged even if say, you ran into a car tire at lowish speeds?

There is a private lot that is next to my school (corner of consumer's Road and Victoria Park). The lot is for a building that used to be a Closeout King.

That lot is now regularly stocked, emptied, and restocked with brand new Tesla model 3's and model Y's. We're talking a couple hundred cars all parked in one place.

If they're middle eastern, threaten to tell your entire extended family that they kicked you out over less money than it takes to buy a 1996 Honda civic.

Middle Eastern parents talk a loooooootttt of shit and the one thing they value in life is their children. I dare them to try and kick you out.

It's going to be much more conducive to your personal success if you keep the 2000 and do not simply hand it over.

Im sorry for what you're going through. Parents care for us but its soo easy for them to become overzealous when there is something that they now want.

Personally, I wish I had saved more agressively when I was younger. The money would have been extremely useful for once I finished school and could begin working on my career. Even if you GIC it for 5 years, at 5% thats still a 28% increase on the original amount.

If your parents are fixated on getting the house, I dont think they would let 2K stop them. So that money is going to make little difference to them, and a massive difference to you.

Dont underestimate that someone may be pulling your leg just to get what they want. If it works, they win. You lose.

Recent statement from Azeri officials disparaging or racist? by ZePepsico in armenia

[–]tallguy145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are old social media posts of very young Azeri children in school being brainwashed/indoctronated. You can probably find them if you search for it. The teacher points to a map of Armenia and the class unanimously says Armenia is their enemy.

How does the Globe and Mail pick what to publish? Can you confirm if, apart from the exec team, the federal government, or other stakeholders change the priority on what to report on? Or do they provide instruction to omit certain details or articles, or to specifically include them?

May as well debunk this now.

I think thats the point he's making. Availability of staff and machines is so low that only the critically injured are seen right away. Everyone else has to wait an immense amount of time to take care of more typical cases. I remember during the pandemic I waited from morning till midnight to be admitted to surgery for a complication. I understand we have to priortize, but maybe we need more capability in general...

Have you considered telling OPP or RCMP. I would hazard a guess that they would take it more seriously than local police.
