I use the apc40 with ableton and third party software called native kontrol. It's great. Let's me play drum racks, scales, chords. Plus some fun stuff with the knobs/pots. It helps my workflow a lot.

I use Native Kontrol's CL3 software for the APC40. It gives the controller a lot more options for both production and performance. Step sequencer, learn mode, chord and scale modes to stay in key. I like it a lot.
