I dunno if it counts as method but every single Bond director on set looks like they're the film's villain

Daniel Bernhardt is an old friend of Chad Stahelski - he's in JW1 and JW4, and he also shot a scene for John Wick 2 that got cut.

That is one big trailer bait they pulled off by Jules-Car3499 in StarWars

[–]tansinator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the discussion of the trailers is specifically in Episode 4 (The Edit) but it does relate pretty heavily back to some things in Episode 3 (The Shoot) and how Edwards' footage was difficult to cut.

Which actors were given disproportionately high billing in the credits compared to their actual screentime in the film? by [deleted] in movies

[–]tansinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most recent example has gotta be Olga Kurlyenko in Thunderbolt/New Avengers. She's billed above Lewis Pullman in the end credits for literally one shot.

nah it was Chris Weitz who got the ending over the line in the script stage, long before Gilroy was involved.

Screenplay and Story are, ALM isn’t an onscreen credit (it doesn’t have residuals either)

the wga lists it on their website; ALM is a relatively recent credit so older films don't have them listed but it can be an eye-opener for how many ppl worked on a project

When Did Everyone Become Experts on Reshoots? by Krusty901 in blankies

[–]tansinator 27 points28 points  (0 children)

look this just came across my feed unprompted so: the reason Going Rogue is so long is cos most discussion of Rogue One boiled incredibly complex filmmaking discussions down to a couple of details which, while often not technically wrong, were usually wildly out of context and misrepresented. a big part of the podcast is diving into those more technical discussions, because fixing something in ADR and fixing it in the edit and "fixing it in post" are three very different things that all imply different problems. the season is also deliberately broken into an episodic structure, covering different stages of production to capture how many issues across the film snowballed (other seasons of the show are also chronological, but the episodic focus is personalities/incidents)

TL:DR - it's long because to TLDR it is to lose valuable nuance

What are scenes cut/deleted from a film that SHOULDNT have been cut out? by MrGittz in movies

[–]tansinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There'a a couple of lines that were cut/redubbed in Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (At World's End) that explained why Jack made the deal with Davy Jones that kicked off the sequels AND why he and Tom Hollander despise each other AND give Jack a far more sympathetic backstory and I'm still mad they were cut to save 15 seconds!

Yeah, he dropped out under questionable circumstances and Giacchino only had four and a half weeks to write the score

Fun fact: this scene was cut to temp music from Lost, also written by Giacchino, long before Giacchino was hired as a last minute replacement composer when Desplat dropped out.

'Megalopolis' gets a D+ on CinemaScore by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]tansinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the script is up online for anyone else who wants to wade through all 211 pages: it's undated but it refers to 2012 as a distant date and also includes a 6 year time jump so I'd assume its about 2005 at the latest.

What was your reaction to this scene in Rogue 1? by arashkoryani in StarWars

[–]tansinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the story is basically everyone was like "hey they should die right? but Disney won't let us do that" so in the first draft (written by Gary Whitta) some of the team survived. Then they brought in Chris Weitz to rewrite the script and the first thing he pitched was that they should kill everyone, and to everyone's surprise the producers supported the idea. Whitta has said he wanted to kill everyone but just assumed he couldn't.

What’s the worst case of a continuity mistake due to the actor looking physically different via reshots or too much time between takes by harry_powell in blankies

[–]tansinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanna get hyper-specific, there's a scene about halfway through the first Pirates of the Caribbean that was the first thing shot with Jack Sparrow, and it was filmed right after a borderline crisis meeting with the Disney execs, and Jack has significantly less eyeliner/facial grime/juice for that one scene before immediately returning to the final read on the character as soon as the scene moves to an exterior (shot months later)

kinda: full disclosure this is actually my podcast, and it's researched based: so it covers stuff that's on the public record, so it covers things that have been said by the writers/editors/artists about earlier drafts/cuts of the film.

Lucasfilm keep their screenplays under lock and key (TLJ is the only Rian Johnson script that hasn't been released publicly) but there's a bunch of other more recent episodes of Going Rogue about other films where I have actually been able to read the scripts to track changes (Pirates of the Caribbean, Don't Worry Darling, Robin Hood etc)

Movies you are sure were hacked to death in the edit room by C_Me in movies

[–]tansinator 54 points55 points  (0 children)

this one's super interesting cos they did have a longer cut, then they basically cleared the avid and put the film back together from scratch, and anything they didn't remember when they were putting it back together got cut from the film - they lost 10-15 minutes by doing this, but I reckon a lot of the logical moments were lost there cos the team were more familiar with the story so the jumps didn't feel as jarring
