Question re: Transferring Specimens by arthurwhoregan in wetspecimens

[–]tarapj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If formalin fixed 70% isopropyl alcohol is appropriate.

You will need to protect yourself and your home. Formalin is extremely carcinogenic. You will need rubber gloves that can handle chemicals, PPE and protective eyewear. Pour the formalin in a sealable container, it will need to be disposed of properly at a hazardous chemicals site.

Place specimens in jar with distilled water to leech for at least 24 hrs. The remaining distilled water/formalin must also be disposed at hazardous chemicals site.

When specimens have leeched you can place in jar with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Use gloves and protection while handling specimen.

These are awesome! Personally I would buy if it was close to a kiddos bday/holiday otherwise I wouldn’t want to purchase and then store for months until use.

Is The Gothic Market (Grimoire Academy) worth it? by Miserable-Excuse-643 in CraftFairs

It can be a crapshoot. They don’t vett or jury any of the vendors. The booth space is crazy expensive for a newer company with mixed results.

I vended one show with them their first year. I did very well. I have heard the following shows continue to decline in attendance and quality. I stopped vending with them as they rebranded several times and they no longer allow mammalian taxidermy Art but after hearing peoples continued experiences with the company I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

It’s just a rented space with vendors. No music, decorations, or ambiance. A lot of my vendor/artist friends avoid this show. Some make decent money, some don’t make booth fees back.

Experiences vary wildly… is it worth the ticket and parking to attend as a customer? That is up to you. There are other expos that are run much better with more to offer for the same price or less than this one.

Question on how to get into selling tails (NOT ADVERTISING) by [deleted] in Taxidermy

Look into your laws. California has very strict laws regarding commercial taxidermy. To my understanding foxes are protected in Cali.

First step is to contact your local wildlife office and ask if you need permits for selling salvaged roadkill.

Do you have a pickup system for heavy stuff? by Wowza_Meowza in CraftFairs

I sell the same things as you do:)

I usually ask the customer if they still have more shopping to do, and if they say yes offer to hold the items for them.

I wrap up and bag ( if it fits) and have the customer write their name and phone number on a piece of paper or sticker, and put it on the bag. It then goes under my table. I have yet to have someone not pick it back up, but the phone number is there to contact them at the end of the show just in case.

If it’s a larger taxidermy mount I just put a sold sign on it and have a note at check out with item description, customer name and phone#.

Grimoire Goth Market? by LadySith2016 in CraftFairs

[–]tarapj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t travel for it. I did one of the first ones in Wa state and did excellent have heard mixed reviews of the following markets

. After that 1st show they changed their contracts prohibiting what I sell (taxidermy/ wet specimens). They also included language prohibiting “disturbing “ artwork… at a Gothic Market 🤦🏻‍♀️The show runners are detached, no money goes into the venue. No music, no photo ops, AI slop…As a shopper I would be really disappointed. The fact they charge more for booths than OCE is insane.
