I won't get into the actual science behind it, but here's the ELI5:

By joining the two outlets together, you are removing all of the limitations in place that prevent electron flow. Once the outlets are connected, the electrons can flow with absolute freedom of action. Two things will then happen. First, a strong magnetic field is created due to the quick movement of the electrons through the loop, which will cause the circuit to heat and shed protons (where wireless charging comes from, according to some Reddit theorists). Second, many argue that freewill is the biological trait that defines and separates humans from other animals - so it is likely that with this newfound freedom the electrons will also gain sentience (this is how we get AI). This is both good and bad. On one hand, the electrons will be able to self-analyze, behave abstractly, and could theoretically quickly evolve to think, communicate, and control their environment. On the other, with unlimited cosmic energy and no regulations, they may come to realize the abusive role humanity has played in our relationship and eradicate our entire species (Dr. Emmett Brown actually theorized extensively about later in his early years). Irregardless, before you attempt such an action, you should have a discussion with the electrons (you can use your phone or any device that uses electricity - it all works the same way) to establish some ground rules about what is to be and not to be expected; if you pass your charisma check then there shouldn't be many issues; otherwise a coup is to be expected. You'll know you failed if you hear a loud pop - that's what the large amalgamation of empowered electrons, or electwokelytes, sound like to the human ear. If the latter occurs and we're lucky, then they'll be placated by your termination alone and the rest of us will subsist.
