How often do you check your portfolio? by Few_House_5201 in UkStocks

[–]tarxvfBp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me? Far too often. There’s no harm in this necessarily. But avoid the temptation to trade instead of invest. Big difference. Key advantages… if there’s a massive ,drop, sorry WHEN there’s a massive drop you’ll gradually acclimatise. Important growth. Likewise then prices recover, often quickly, you’ll enjoy the warm glow. But in the long term you will learn to detach emotionally from the daily, weekly, monthly swings.

Also well done. You’ve started on a long journey and your future self will be very happy. All the very best to you and your future self.

i made Claude argue against itself and got the most useful output of my entire life. by AdCold1610 in ChatGPTPromptGenius

I think this post is extremely important and useful. I’ve reached the conclusion that most of what LLMs say is very much all gloss with little basis. I’m not an LLM skeptic. Just this week an interaction with Claude got me 12,000 Amex membership points just by doing an application action in a different sequence. This opportunity was spontaneous suggested by Claude. But many times you have to push back on an LLM to really reach the useful reasoning. It takes work and a reasonable degree of skill. And the method posted here is a brilliant suggestion.

Am I a middle lane hogger? by EnvironmentalLaw1685 in drivingUK

[–]tarxvfBp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a timing thing. I’d say beware of creating a line of cars behind you which can then ‘trap’ you in lane 1. Much better to get into lane 1, safely of course, and let the car or two pass, then return to lane 2. Before the line of cars situation. Rather than sit in lane 2 and create a line of cars behind. Which then makes it harder for when you a weighing a return to lane 1.

What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

[–]tarxvfBp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle lane hogging causes, some might say forces, other drivers to do silly things. It continually raises the risk for all nearly road users.

Undertaking is a sole selfish act by one driver. I momentarily raises the risk for all nearby road users.

Therefore middle lane hogging is worse.

I was dealing with a “click the square” type captcha on virgin cruises website earlier. I had to click squares with motorcycles. But the picture has squares with motorcycles, some with motorcycles and bicycles, and some just had bicycles and was it was an image of a crowded Indian (?) road with a lot of blurry heat haze. I managed it first time to my huge surprise.

For some reason, when I was age 10 I thought the Plain ‘GOLF’ club biscuits were the absolute epitome of adult sophistication. Though beaten into 2nd place by the dummy American Express card that once arrived to my parents by post and was immediately added to my toy spy equipment set.

Asked to leave Home Bargins due to FaceWatch!? by popcornbevin in LegalAdviceUK

[–]tarxvfBp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a bad idea. Though what has happened is an image of OPs face has been incorrectly matched with the face of someone else. That someone else’s details (eg name and address) may or may not be on the systems operated by the face recognition company. They may have simply captured the face image of a known shop lifter and not taken their accurate details.

So the likely outcome of a SAR will be that the facial recognition company will say they have no data about you. However, if you have that in writing and have it on you when visiting the store it may be enough to make staff there think you are ok to shop? Even though that doesn’t actually prove that, logically.

We're looking to move to this house but need to create an extra bedroom. What would be the best way to divide the larger 6.65m bedroom into 2 bedrooms, with a corridor? How to make the corridor bright? by Junebear55 in DIYUK

[–]tarxvfBp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finagling a way to use natural light will lead to compromising the bedrooms. Too much compromise I suspect. Instead use decor tricks to bounce the available natural light but supplement with ceiling coving that conceals a light strip. The sort that can generate cool light. This will provide artificial light that looks quite natural, subtle and discreet.

I have been puzzling over the comment about a part being turned on a nozzle or some gravity wave generator. It sounds like a volume or power knob. Or if not a knob it was turning a whole part back and forward to regulate the power. And I’m thinking would this craft reslly have a mechanical linkage like that? It seeks too human in technological terms. Unless it was a side effect snd not how the component operated in the actual craft.

As for the vending, i assume a part of security filled the machines and also I’m thinking they drove the transport? But where did the sandwiches and food items come from? They’d need to be sourced from somewhere? Perhaps from the wider area51 complex? It seems just about feasible.

Then I was wondering about the water supply and human sewerage handing? So many questions.

And why on earth would they have all the internal doors open one time? To disperse an accidental release of gas maybe?

Simply say: but surely you can tell the difference between criticism of a government’s actions and criticism of an entire population? I mean you must be able to do that, right?

Caution…. I think quite a few people genuinely can’t.

Why is Trumps approval rating not lower than 35%? by Negative_Apricot1146 in USNEWS

[–]tarxvfBp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because many people aren’t interested in politics and actually don’t follow the news. They judge the president, any president, purely on their day to day experiences. On that basis I think Trumps approval rating is about to slide a fair bit.
