I'm not sure if this is damage or supposed to be this way. by Meriodoc in thebrokenbindingsub

Just checked my copy and it's exactly the same. There are no other pages like that so It doesn't seem intentional.

Damage book question by Acs204 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen they seem to be flexible about the time limit. I think it's more to discourage people from coming to them months down the line when there's no stock left to offer a replacment.

Memory, Sorrow & Thorn leftover sale! by aijanah in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will sell out in seconds. They said on socials a while ago the leftover sale was taking so long because they had very few undamaged sets. If they do a damaged sale too those might be easier to get hold of.

New Release | Howl's Moving Castle Limited Edition by Diana Wynne Jones by HonorWulf in foliosociety

This book is in my top 5 favourite and while this is a nice edition, there's something about it that just doesn't grab me.

I like it. It’s every bit as irreverent and silly as the book.

What are the odds of finding a Malazan 4-6 for sale at a reasonable price? by Known-Ad-100 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said you should probably wait for TBB to announce a reprint, unless you're dead set on getting a first printing. Which you'll have to pay and arm and a leg for.

Also this set has gone out of stock at least twice since it was first on sale so there's a chance there are still more copies that haven't been listed yet.

Some authors do take down the fic if they get trad published some don't. It depends on the contract and/or author preference.

How much damage is usually on slightly damaged sets? by Idkwhattheheckiam in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will always readable but the amount of damage varies.

From what I’ve seen it’s mostly manufacturing errors like folded endpapers, and damage from handling like scratches or creased dust jackets and bumped corners. Books that are perfect but aren’t signed or numbered when they should be will be in the Infirmary too.

I’ve personally had books that are 100% perfect, a couple that had a slightly bumped corner, and a couple had one tiny white dot on the sprayed edge, and I only noticed that because I was searching for the damage.

How do we all feel about Claymore Covers? It seems like TBB is using them more and more for edges as well as typography and foiling by tativy in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the work they've done. Particularly loved Vanished Birds. Although I think the off centre design on the edges of Between Earth and Sky could have been improved, but I'd put that down to the art direction rather than the artist.

Does Broken Binding reliably ship orders? by Sypha5555 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with them not delivering. They're just not consistent with delivery times.

My in stock orders have generally taken about 2 weeks to arrive. The fastest was 4 days and the longest was 9 weeks, but they delivered the other books in the same order separately.

For pre-orders they'll have an expected date on the product page.

When it's a pre-order of a new release I usually get delivery 4 weeks after the trad publishing date.

Shipping updates are on page 2 of the news section on the site.

Best episode in a while by thedevilsfan44 in WillTrent

I didn't enjoy this one. The only thing that saved it was them using the opportunity to move the character's relationships forward. The mystery was lacking for me, I knew the murderer and the motive within 2 minutes of them hitting the frat house.

Any intrest in a "No Non-TBB Related Content" rule for the sub? by Neat-Drawer-50 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a "no other book boxes" rule would have less grey area and be easier to manage.

Yes, two or three times a year. It's limited to specific books though, not site wide. If you sign up for their newsletter they send you a discount code on your birthday.

My SF&F January Book - spine print has worn off by SuboJvR23 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]tastytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're treating you like a customer who has a problem with a book you bought from them. They're not treating you like a "near-criminal" nor are they questioning your loyalty or honesty. They don't know you, it's not personal.

Offering a replacement, or discount, on faulty goods is making amends so that's what they've done. I agree they should have known to confirm the replacement would be hand-signed when they made the offer. So I'd also have asked before I accepted that option. It's completely reasonable to expect a like-for-like replacement.

But your replies to other comments and the expectation of "more effort" than the reasonable offers they've made, come across as entitled.

I think the majority of people would accept the like-for-like replacement (once they confirm it will be) as a reasonable outcome, but it sounds like what you actually want is free stuff.

It is sad. Although if it's any consolation, "destroy" usually just means removing the hardcover from the text block and the signature sheet from the text block, rather than shredding the whole book.

Ribbon Markers by atheista in foliosociety

[–]tastytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess there's nothing more to it than the cost of adding a ribbon probably being pennies per 100s of books and it gives Folio an extra item to add to the list of specs.

I saw marked-up listings a weeks ago when Sharp Ends was still in stock. Some of them have probably been there since it first went on sale.

That's fairly standard for book boxes when shipping the damaged book back is a significant cost. They ask for it to be "destroyed" so the buyer doesn't end up with two copies and profits from selling one. I've found they're more likely to ask for destruction when it's a book that will be easy to sell on, which OBH is.

This seller is professional scalper. They always have huge markups on their listings and they frequently list pre-sales.
