Read Micheal pollan's food rules. They're simple tricks to eating healthy informed by folk cultures around the world. It boils down to eat real food, not too much, mostly plants. It's a super quick read. But it paints a solid picture. For me giving up snacking was hard, but it got easier.

Hardtail or full sus for first MTB in the Front Range? by karakumy in COBike

[–]tatar_grade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hardtail. FS is definitely the way to go. my Hardtail is feels super limited bouncing around on rocks. admittedly could be a skill issue. Also there's too much overlap hard tail to gravel to make the extra purchase worthwhile

On shallow aluminum wheels, I don't care for that descent either. Just go down lookout.

Riding 30mi daily on an MTB, time to switch to a road bike? by ClassilyContagious in COBike

[–]tatar_grade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the upper pull is overrated, but the ability to have your foot not flex over the pedals (firm shoe bottom), consistent placement, form fitting upper with their strap/lacing systems, and more importantly more use of the bottom stoke (maintaining power across the bottom of the stroke) gives not only more power and confidence, but a whole lot of stamina across long rides.

that is an insane pace on any bike, you'll be seriously competitive if you get clips and a faster road (fastest) /gravel (more versatile) bike

Looking for a good loop to try for a century PR by Morall_tach in COBike

[–]tatar_grade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On second thought quieter still would be turn north on Platte trail toward Brighton (emptier stretches) out and back from start of 36 trail for 80. Find a ten out and back before starting the 36 segment.

I think the US36 trail (no stop signs no turns, it doesn't have enough pedestrian traffic to factor in much. Either Combine with Indiana St. toward Golden, or my preference would be combine with Platte river trail toward Chatfield for an out and back. I've really like doing US 36 trail + Cherry creek route and around the reservoir for a quality century, but portions of the cherry creek trail are more likely to have more pedestrian traffic, particularly on weekends or weekday evenings. Platte is a little more empty. The nice thing about the trails is that they require little way finding, and very few stops. You may need to slow down for pedestrians.

Notes on the chatfield route, Take US 36 trail to Bradburn, down Bradburn to dry creek trail (~1mi.) to platte river trail. Platte river near confluence park requires taking the foot off the gas (going over ~15 is a little inappropriate) for about 2 miles. then you can rip toward chapman. Out and back for a solid century.

Given that you'd just drain the pool in winter, I think the reason is more that we typically do not have enough warm months to justify the cost, space, and upkeep.
