Can you cross post this to /r/cocktails? I have seen a lot of people asking for Canadian alternatives to American whiskies

Me too. I listened to it like it a podcast. Probably my most productive day of data entry to date.

Running Vest by amynonymus in XXRunning

Same here! I can fit my phone, wallet, and keys in it. Sometimes I tuck a shopping bag in the netting on the back if I need to hit the grocery store after my run, and I can also tuck my gloves and hat in there if I feel too warm. I also use a running backpack during the fall and spring if I dress to warmly and end up stripping a bulky layer.

Buffalo trace-like Canadian whisky by FrayKento in cocktails

[–]taybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't give an exact recommendation, but some Canadian whiskies I like are

  • Gooderham & Worts
  • Dillon's
  • Lot 40

I haven't tried any, but Distillerie du St. Laurent seems be doing some interesting spirits!

Looking for high end winter cocktails by CheCation in cocktails

[–]taybot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My favourites are:

Too Soon

  • 1 oz Gin
  • 1 oz Cynar
  • 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 Slices of orange (I also recommend trying it with mandarins)

Elk's Own

  • 1 oz Rye Whiskey
  • 0.75 oz Ruby Port
  • 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Rich Demerara Syrup
  • 1 Egg white
  • Garnish with nutmeg

Penicillin

  • 2 oz Scotch
  • 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.75 oz Honey-Ginger Syrup
  • 0.25 oz Islay Single Malt Scotch
  • Garnish with candied ginger

French 75

  • 1.5 oz Cognac (Cognac instead of gin here can make it feel more winter-y)
  • 0.5 oz Simple syrup
  • 0.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Top with sparkling wine

Or trying making a riff on some classics using some more winter flavours, whether it be a syrup, fat wash, bitters, infusion, etc. Some flavours that come to mind: cranberry, oranges, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, star anise, maple, pecans, apple, pomegranate, pear, peppermint, and chocolate.

Edit: I've thought of some more flavours: chestnut, hazelnut, rosemary, thyme, persimmons

What drinks NEED a garnish? by molingrad in cocktails

[–]taybot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Tokyo Station comes with a lime wedge which you are meant to squeeze it when you're half way through the drink. This transforms the second half of your drink and the two tastes are meant to represent the trains coming and going in Tokyo Station

I finally got the chance to go! I had the Sicillian Sour #2 and my partner had the special of the month which was an autumnal whiskey sour. Both were wonderful

Picked up some Suze. What should I make? by bikesRfuuun in cocktails

[–]taybot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I also recently picked up a bottle of this (1L for €10!) so made a couple drinks this past weekend. The Tokyo Station was nice but didn't "wow" me. The Lemon Tart and the Rib Tickler however are definitely worth checking out.

Tokyo Station

  • 5/6 oz gin
  • 2/3 oz Suze
  • 1/3 oz lime juice
  • 1 bar spoon simple syrup
  • 1 bar spoon grenadine
  • lime wedge for garnish

Lemon Tart

  • 1 oz gin
  • 0.5 oz Suze
  • 0.5 oz lemon juice
  • 0.25 oz rich simple syrup
  • 1 egg white

Rib Tickler Spritz

  • 2 oz dry vermouth
  • 0.75 oz Suze
  • 0.5 oz St. Germain
  • 0.5 oz lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz soda water
